With 2nd edition… This present magazine is only one more addition to many such already existing. By adding one after the other on the same subject, it is like changing the clothes while the man inside is the same appearing differ-ently in different attires. No, this is always not so. The purpose is to encourage and invite articles, findings, and researches conducted on the subject for voluntarily permitting us to bring it to the public interested in the subject. About the 1st edition, people appreciated it but complained about lack of research oriented material. With this edition we are focusing more on research based articles. It is not necessary that all articles should satis-fy all readers, because a reader may be ignorant of Astrology, or a learner or research-scholar. So, to fulfill the needs for all sections of readers, we are trying to restore a balance. Also, I request all senior members of Astrology, to share their research papers with us. I assure my readers that there is no commercial motive behind this or any desire to rise to name & fame. To say more on this will be superflu-ous as already much has been said on the age old subject.

THE SUN TEMPLE KONARK by Sashikanta Nayak

Konark (कोणाकर ) temple 

built in 1278 C.E. by the 

Ganga  King Narasimha 

Deva I, using Black Granite 

and the temple also know 

as Black Pagoda. It is situ‐

ated at a small town at 

Puri district in the state of 

Odisha, India, on the Bay 

of Bengal, sixty‐five kilo‐

meters from Bhubanes‐

war. The Konark temple is 

widely known not only for 

its architectural grandeur 

but also for the intricacy and profusion of sculptural 

work. The en re temple has been conceived as a char‐

iot of the Sun god with 24 wheels, each about 10 feet 

in diameter, with a set of spokes and elaborate carv‐

ings. Seven horses drag the temple. Two lions guard 

the entrance, crushing elephants. A flight of steps lead 

to the main entrance.  This temple is totally dedicated 

to Lord Surya / Sun God , Due to this fact, it is also 

popular as Sun Temple. The intricate carvings and rich 

sculpture make this temple truly a sight to behold.  

Konark is accredited for being one of the largest tem‐

ples of India. Encircled by dri ing sands, Konark Temple is a masterpiece shaped as a Chariot, as if, carrying the Sun 

God from the Heaven. The temple is said 

to have built in the  me span of 16 years 

with the effort of 1200 masons. In the 

ancient  mes, sailors used to call the 

temple, a 'Black Pagoda', since the mag‐

ne c spire lured the ships to the shore 

causing shipwrecks. The temple was des‐

ecrated in the early 18th century by the 

a acks of Mughal Emperor, Jahangir. In 

the late 19th century, the remnants of 

this temple were excavated.  The Konark 

Temple Declared as UNESCO World Her‐

itage Site in 1984 and also  famous for its 

Sculpture Couples figured in sensuous

and amorous poses on 

the exterior walls. The 

walls of the temple are 

ornamented with vari‐

ous geometric and floral 

designs. On the walls 

there are human, divine 

and semi‐divine sculp‐

tures in sensuous poses. 

There are many intri‐

cately carved sculptures 

of coupes on the walls 

showing various ero c 

and amorous poses, de‐

rived from the Kama‐Sutra. Many of sculptures of the temple are now par ally in ruins. These sculptures are housed 

in the Sun Temple Museum. The museum is run by the Archaeological Survey of India. Indeed, the Konark Sun Tem‐

ple is a worth visit a rac on in India. At Konark you will get Sun Temple 

Museum – run by the Archaeological Survey of India. The Best  me to 

visit Konark Temple is between October to February. The konark temple 

is the only one temple where the SUN God is not worshiped According to 

that Kavya, Sumanyu Risi (saint) cursed the Sun god for his ill‐behavior 

towards his daughter Chandrabhaga, who commi ed suicide. Hence the 

temple of the Sun god fell down . Also there are lots of other case due to 

which the temple various specula ons made as to the possible cause of 

the fall of this magnificent temple. The Naata Mandir (the Dancing hall) of 

Konark was in its origin form for a longer period and it was broken inten‐

onally considering it as an unnecessary structure during the  me of 

Marahata administra on. Consequent upon, Orissa came under the Mus‐

lim administra on in 1568 and there were constant a empts to destroy 

the Hindu temples. The Pandas of Puri, to save the sanc ty of the Puri 

temple, took away the Lord Jagannath from the Srimandir and kept the image in a secret place. Similarly, it is said 

that the Pandas of Konark took away the presiding 

deity of the Sun temple out of the temple and put 

under sand for some years. The most popular cause 

rests with the Kalapahad as the root of the fall of 

Konark temple. According to the history of Orissa, 

Kalapahad invaded Orissa in 1508. Including Konark 

temple he had also destroyed a number of Hindu 

temples in Orissa. It is described in the Madala Panji 

of Puri Jagannath temple that Kalapahad a acked 

Orissa in 1568 and it was an evil hour for Orissa. In‐

cluding Konark temple he broke most of the images 

in most of the Hindu temples in Orissa. Though it 

was impossible to break the Sun temple of Konark,

the stone walls of which are of 20 to 25 feet thick he somehow managed to displace the Dadhinau  (Arch stone) and 

thus made a way for the temple to collapse. He also broke most of the images and other side temples of Konark. Due 

to displacement of the Dadhinau , the temple gradually collapsed and the roof of the Mukasala also got damage due 

to the stroke of the stones falling down from the temple top.the Sun worship in the Konark temple was stopped con‐

sequent upon the removal of the image from the temple. This resulted in stopping of pilgrims to Konark. So also the 

port at Konark was closed due to a acks of pirates. Konark was as glorious a city for Sun worship as for commercial 

ac vi es. The Sun image now kept in the Na onal Museum, Delhi was the presiding deity of the Konark Sun temple.  

Why We Worship “The SUN GOD” ‐the Supreme Light   

According to Vedic astrology The Sun who is a Graha (Planet) and father of all 

planets, who is malefic in nature but never go beyond dharma.  Its nature is hot 

and it is the controller of sharpness of mind, beauty and energy of body. It is 

also the master of successes in life and controls the family affairs .The Sun gives 

life force so daily praying to Lord SUN one will free from all diseases and ones 

win in every aspect of the life.  Worshipping Sun gives us vitality, royalty and 

life forece, According to Mahābhārata, Karna used to pray to his father Surya, 

the Sun god, at noon every day. This tradi on of praying to Surya is s ll carried 

out in parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and U ar Pradesh in the form of Chhath Puja. 

Those chant Surya mantra and worship to Lord Surya they will never defeated 

in any case. If Sun is powerful one's person birth chart  then he or she will get 

all life and royals. Sri Rama also had chanted the Aditya Hridayam when Rama was perplexed. The Aditya Hridayam, is a hymn in glorifica on of the Sun or 

Surya and was recited by the great sage Agastya to Lord Rama on the ba le‐

field before figh ng with Ravana. This historic hymn starts at the beginning of 

the Ba le with Ravana, when Lord Rama is fa gued and ge ng ready to fight. The mys cal hymn is directed to the 

Sun God, the illustrious lord of all victories. Surya has hair and arms of gold. He is said to drive through the heaven in 

his triumphal chariot harnessed by seven horses or one horse with seven heads, which represent the seven colors of 

the rainbow or the seven chakras. He presides over Sunday. Surya is notably men oned as the visible form of God 

that one can see every day , so we should give a Surya Namskar each day to the Sun God which is quite tuff to a gen‐

eral person to do.  The Sun is also called Surya Narayana by Vaishnavas. In Shaivite theology, Surya is said to be one 

of eight forms of Shiva, named the Astamur . Vivasvat (Surya) had three queens; Saranyu Ragyi, and Prabha. 

Saranyu was the mother of Vaivasvata Manu or Sraddhadeva Manu and the twins Yama (the Lord of Death) and his 

sister Yami. She also bore him the twins known as the Ashvins, divine horsemen and physicians to the Devas. 

Saranyu, being unable to bear the extreme radiance of Surya, created a superficial en ty from her shadow called 

Chhaya and instructed her to act as Surya's wife in her absence. Chhaya mothered two sons ‐ Savarni Manu (the 

eighth, i.e. next Manu) and Shani (the planet Saturn), and two daughters ‐ Tap  and Vish . He also has a son, Re‐

vanta, or Raivata, by Ragyi. Surya's two sons Shani and Yama are responsible for the judgment of human life. Shani 

gives us the results of one's deeds through one's life through appropriate punishments and rewards while Yama 

grants the results of one's deeds a er death. Surya is not men oned as one of the Adityas in the first book of the 

epic Mahabarata, but may be regarded as the compound of the twelve solar dei es men oned there, to be under‐

stood in connec on to the Jyo sha vedic astrology: Dhatri, Mitra, Aryaman, Sakra, Varuna, Amsa, Vaga, Vivaswat, 

Usha, Savitri, Tvashtri, Vishnu.

In Modern astronomy Sun; Moon; Rahu & Ketu are not considered as planets. Rahu & Ketu are not real planets; they 

are just some mathema cal points. 

On the other hand, though, The Earth, a planet, is not treated as a Graha in Jyo sh. The Solar system is Heliocentric 

but the frame of reference for astrological prognos ca on is shi ed to Earth as centre. It is the geocentric longitudes 

of the NavaGrahas that are considered in erec ng a horoscope (i.e. the map of the skies for an observer on Earth). 

Before talking about the term “Graha”, we need to look on the term “Jyo sh” i.e. Astrology. The excellent science of 

“Jyo sh” comprising Siddhanta, Samhita and Hora as its three sec ons is verily the eyes of Vedas: 

• Siddhanta–Ganita or mathema cs which includes Gola or spherical astronomy. 

• Samhita – Applica on of Ganita (astronomy) to terrestrial phenomena such as natural calami es, poli cal de‐

velopment. 

• Hora – The study of correla ons between astronomical factors and individual life. 

Thus Jyoisha is a study of astronomical phenomena and their connec on with terrestrial happenings (natural calami‐

es, poli cal developments, individual life etc). The study of all these sec ons of Jyo sh is based on “Grahas”. Graha 

is a Sanskrit word that means to grab, grasp, hold, apprehend. 

In BPHS, Sage Parashara had thrown light on the term “Graha” and further defined clearly all the characteris cs of 

“Grahas”, like ‐ nature, governance, status, complexions, dei es, genders, primo dial compounds, etc. All these char‐

acteris cs of Grahas deal with Jyo sh‐part i.e. astrology, not with the astronomical defini on of “Planet”. In BPHS 

CH.3 V. 2‐3‐4‐5‐6 & 11‐12‐13‐14‐15‐16, about Graha, sage Parasara has stated about Grahas. 

Thus, the term “Graha” in Jyo sh indicate a wider astronomical implica on to itself than the term “Planet”. A 

“Graha” can be a celes al body or geometrical point. “Jyo sh” is based on the theory of “Rebirth”. In the light of 

Jyo sh, every planet is trying to unfold the hidden a ributes of individual based on his previous “Karma”. The nine 

grahas (or planets) are the incarna ng forces that bind the living beings to their karmas. 

In actual, all these nine planets only indicate the situa ons we get in life because of past deeds or Karmas. Nobody 

can avoid or run or alter the situa ons caused by past deeds, but s ll human being is the only crea on of God, who 

has the freedom of thought. Human being can thought and try to do that task, but he has no control on results. So, 

by worship of “Grahas”, actually we try to do good Karmas, which in return respond like Newton’s 3rd law of Mo on 

i.e. “Every ac on has an equal and opposite reac on”. So, what we sow, we will ripe that. 

Explana ons of Zodiac (रािशय )

Signs are called "Rashis" (रािशय raw‐shees) in Sanskrit. This table shows the signs with their rulers, Sanskrit names 

and symbols, etc.  However, the nature of the signs, what they do, and the demigods behind them, who control 

them, are vastly different in Vedic astrology.

Graha (Wrongly pronounced as Planet) 

In Vedic astrology planet are known as Graha because we are consid‐

ering 9 planets and among three are not real planets, but consider as 

planet which is actually Graha. As we know SUN is not a planet and 

Rahu (dragon’s head, or the north node of the Moon) and Ketu 

(dragon’s tail, the south node of the Moon) consider as two Shadow 

planet also referring as Graha. So we have 9 planets and all they have 

their quali es. 

The SUN: Sun is treated as an aggressive and cruel star 

The Sun gives us vitality and the power of resistance and immunity. It 

is responsible for our physical  makeup – the body’s cons tu on. The 

Sun gives life force, the power of will, intellect, brilliance, prosperity, 

success in worldly affairs, wealth, personal, conduct, ac vity, cheer‐

fulness, good fortune, wisdom, ambi on, fame, the understanding of 

the phenomenal world, and the knowledge of medicine. It also gov‐

erns our rela onship with temples and holy places. 

 

The Sun, according to the Vedas, is the parent of all exis ng phenom‐

ena in the solar system. He is the  ruler of all the planets that rotate around him. The Sun is considered to be the soul 

of Kala Purusha (Kala =  me, Purusha = being; combined, it means the being that binds himself to Time). its nature is 

bile‐dominated, and it is the lord of the direc on East.

Sun is treated as a ferocious and cruel planet. Its nature is hot and it is the controller of sharpness of mind, beauty 

and energy of body. It is also the master of successes in life and controls the family affairs along with the Mars. 

It is the ruler of the zodiacal sign, Leo, and is exalted in the sign Aries, debilitated in Libra, and exiled in Aquarius. The 

Moon, Mars, and Jupiter are its natural friends, and Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu are its natural enemies. 

Nakshatras : Kri ka, U ra Phalguni, and U ra Khad are ruled by the Sun. 

The human spine (the Pingala Nadi ) is specially influenced by the Sun, which represents the Sun, originates at the 

base of the spine on the right side, is solar in nature, and terminates in the right nostril. The Sun is connected with 

the right eye in men and the le  eye in women. The Sun rules the heart, liver, lungs, head (brain), nerves, and bones. 

An afflicted and ill‐aspect Sun gives low and high blood pressure, indiges on, jaundice, cholera, fever, diabetes, ap‐

pendici s, hemorrhage, cardiac thrombosis, erup ons on the face, typhoid, tuberculosis, mental problems caused by 

thinking too much, diseases of the head, epilepsy, and disorders caused by aggravated bile. 

The MOON: Moon is associated with the func onality of mind 

Moon is the presiding deity of the element water, and rules over the  des of the sea. The sphere of the Moon is the 

reservoir of rainwater and thus Moon is the ruler of plants and the vegetable kingdom. 

Its nature is wise, and learned. It rules peace of mind, comfort, general well‐being, and also the fortune of a person. 

The Moon gives illumina on, intui ve nature, sensuality, taste, youth, love of poetry, fine arts and music, love of 

jewelry, a rac ve appearance, wealth and good fortune. It makes us moody, emo onal, and sensi ve. It rules milk, 

grains, liquids, growth, fer lity, impregna on, and concep on. 

Moon is associated with the func onality of mind. It is believed that the moon controls the power of mind and versa‐

lity. It is also believed to provide power of medita on, concentra on and resistance against cold diseases. 

An afflicted, debilitated, exiled, or weak Moon causes cold, cough, fever, eye ailments, lunacy, paralysis, epilepsy, 

hysteria, colic pains, beriberi, intes nal disorders, throat troubles, bronchi s, dysentery, neurosis, typhoid, and can‐

cer. 

The MARS: Mars, a powerful planet, can work out miracles  

Mars is fond of law and order – and arrangement. It gives energy ,determina on, great administra ve ability, and 

independent spirit. Mars, a powerful planet, can work out miracles for it's devotees. It can protect it's devotees from 

impending dangers and blood‐related ailments. It is instrumental in the acquisi on of landed proper es, acquiring of 

status, affluence in profession/occupa on and even relieves from steep debts. 

Mars is a masculine, dry, and fiery planet. It is said to be the commander‐in‐chief of the assembly of the nine planets. It is also personified as the god of war. Mars is a warrior by nature‐bile‐dominated in temperament – and it rules over courage, bravery, pa ence, self‐confidence, leadership abili es, physical strength, forcefulness, violence, animal nature, ca le, land as property, earth, fire, saffron, musk, mercury (the metal), cuts, burns, bruises, anger, hatred, impulsive nature, and insensi vity.  Mars makes its na ves short‐tempered, argumenta ve; lovers of weapons, guns, and explosives; commanders; gen‐erals; soldiers; and policeman. It also gives them great technical and mechanical abili es and makes them builders, designers, engineers, and good surgeons.  

The MERCURY: Mercury is adored for bestowing blessings

Mercury rules the zodiacal signs Virgo and Gemini. Friends of Mercury are the Sun,Venus, Rahu, and Ketu, Mars, Ju‐

piter, and Saturn are neutral to Mercury, and Mercury maintains enmity with the Moon. 

It works well with Ashlekha, Jyeshtha, Reva , Rohini, Hast, and Shravan nakshatras and gives auspicious results. It 

gives inauspicious results in Adra, Sva , Pushya, Anuradha, Chitra, and Magha nakshatras. 

Mercury is the planet of intellect and communica on. It can be seen in the morning and evening as a shining star – 

and some mes even during the day because of its power of radia on. Mercury is the smallest planet of our solar 

system. 

When ill‐aspected, Mercury gives chronic dysentery, cons pa on, lack of diges ve fire, lung diseases, asthma, rest‐

lessness, kidney problems, fear, neurosis, and madness. 

The JUPITER: Jupiter is believed to be a bestower of successes 

Jupiter is a benefic planet, signifier of luck and fortune, and he rules religion, philosophy, spirituality, wealth, and 

progeny. He is noble, buoyant, dignified, frui ul, op mis c, jovial, and masculine. If favorable, this planet gives 

name, fame, success, honor, wealth, progeny and good rela onship with progeny, and it brings benefits to whatever 

planets or house it is associated with. 

Jupiter is a planet that governs the vital power of the body and brings luxuries, fame and peaceful life. Jupiter is also considered the king of planets and as such, the ill effects of other planets shun down automa cally when Jupiter is powerful. We wish a powerful Jupiter Planet for you. Jupiter is very important for a female, because it determines her marriage and her rela onship with her husband. Jupiter rules over the liver, thighs, circula on of blood in arteries, and fat in the human organism. It rules over gold and bronze in metals, wheat and barley in grains, yellow flowers, fruits of yellow color, onions, and garlic.  The VENUS: Venus Planet is mainly associated with family life 

Venus is feminine and gentle. An embodiment of love, he is a benefic planet and governs the refined a ributes, ro‐

mance, beauty, sensuality, passion, sexual pleasure, marriage, love ma ers, comforts, luxuries, jewelry, wealth, 

prosperity, art, music, dance, theater, actors, poets, musicians, the season of spring, rains and aqua c creatures. In 

the body he rules over the reproduc ve system, eyes, throat, chin, cheeks, and kidneys. 

When rightly aspected Venus is strong, and it brings wealth, comfort, a rac on to the opposite sex in the early part of life, a well‐propor oned body, and the a rac ve features necessary for a sensuous nature. It makes its na ves tender, gentle, and considerate; lovers of jewelry, sour (pungent) taste, white dress, decora on, perfume, tasty food, and the fine arts. It inspires them to be poets, musicians, and seekers of truth and knowledge (secret sciences). The na ve loves the company of the members of the opposite sex, ar sts, and musicians.  When afflicted or ill‐aspected, Venus creates problems in marriage. It causes diseases of the eyes and ovaries. The na ve may suffer from gout, cysts, swelling of the internal organs, anemia, ea ng and drinking, venereal disease.  

The SATURN: Saturn is symbolic of cruelty and irrita ons in life 

Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest planet in the Solar System, a er Jupiter. The word 

Shani(शिन) comes Shanaye Krama  Sa: (शनय करमित सः) , the one who moves slowly, as 

Saturn takes about 30 years to revolve around the Sun. Shani is also known as Shanaishchar (शन चर), Shanaishcha‐ra, Shani Bhagavan, Shaneesvara, Saneesvara, Shaneesvaran, Shani Deva. It is said that when Shani opened his eyes

as a baby for the very first  me, the sun went into an eclipse, which clearly denotes the impact of Shani on astrologi‐

cal charts. 

Saturn rules over the zodiacal signs Capricorn and Aquarius. Mercury, Venus, Rahu, and Ketu are its friends and the 

Sun, the Moon, and Mars are its enemies. Jupiter is neutral in friendship. Its friendly zodiacal signs are Taurus and 

Gemini and it works well and gives good results in Sagi arius and Pisces. Enemy signs are Cancer, Leo, and Scorpio. 

Saturn gives its best results – or worst results – between thirty‐six and forty‐two years of age 

In the body, Saturn rules the nails, hair, teeth, bones, and nervous system .Diseases of the ears, jaundice, gout, deaf‐

ness, depression, anxiety, insanity, and asthma are also connected with a Saturn that is ill‐aspected or badly placed 

in the birth chart.

Rahu is a legendary master of decep on who signifies cheaters, pleasure seekers, operators in foreign lands, drug 

dealers, poison dealers, insincere & immoral acts, etc. It is the significator of an irreligious person, an outcast, harsh 

speech, logical fallacy, falsehoods, uncleanliness, abdominal ulcers, bones, and transmigra on. Rahu is instrumental 

in strengthening one's power and conver ng even an enemy into a friend. 

Rahu is regarded as similar to Saturn in its effect. Smoky blue is its color, ins nctual and animalis c its nature. Rahu 

is interested only in achieving all that gives pleasure, and even if it achieves all it wants, it is never sa sfied Rahu is 

capable of giving power when rightly posited or exalted, and it gives fame, success in poli cs, money, and beauty. 

Rahu rules no sign of the zodiac, the zodiacal sign Virgo is its sign. Virgo is in fact assigned to Mercury, but Rahu be‐

ing akin to Saturn and Mercury being a friend of Saturn, Rahu thus has authority over Virgo. Friendly signs are Virgo, 

Libra, Sagi arius, and Pisces. Cancer and Leo are its enemy signs. Mercury, Venus, and Saturn are friendly planets. 

Rahu is an enemy of Sun, Moon, and Mars. Rahu gives auspicious results in Gemini , Taurus and Libra. 

Rahu creates physical and mental illnesses that cannot be diagnosed and cured easily. It gives suicidal tendencies, 

fears, phobias, poisonous bites, murder, the , imprisonment, and diseases like cholera, dysentery, skin diseases,

Both ayurveda and Vedic astrology have their roots in the same Vedic tradi on. This tradi on forms a unit. The vari‐

ous methods rooted in this tradi on supplement each other and re‐ a uned to each other.The panchamahabhootas‐ 

air, fire, water, earth and space gives rise to three fundamental bio‐energies known as the tridoshas‐ vata, pi a and 

kapha.

As Ayurveda is based on the three cons tu ons, the three dosha's, these three dosha's are called vata, pi a and 

kapha. Vata corresponds to air, pi a to fire, and kapha to earth and water. The astrological signs can then be divided 

as follows: 

Vata : Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn and Aquarius. Virgo is placed here because it is ruled by Mercury, which is an 

air planet in Vedic astrology. Capricorn is men oned here because it is ruled by the vata planet Saturn.

Pi a : Aries, Leo, Sagi arius and Scorpio. Scorpio is pi a because the classic ruler of Scorpio is the fire planet Mars. 

Kapha : Taurus, Cancer, and Pisces. These are the earth and water signs not assigned to vata and pi a. 

Astrology can also play a role in establishing the cons tu on or dosha. 

1. To define the cons tu on we use the ascendant and the lord of the ascendant. If the ascendant is Aries (a pi a 

sign), and the lord of the ascendant (Mars) is in Scorpio (a pi a sign), it will point to a pi a cons tu on. 

2.Planets in the first are also important, especially if they are close to the ascendant degree. Suppose someone has 

Saturn in the first, this is a strong indica on for a vata cons tu on. If a person has Jupiter in the first then that per‐

son tends to gain weight and may have a kapha cons tu on. 

3.We also need to know which planets are in the sixth house and where is the lord of the sixth house placed. If Mer‐

cury is in the sixth house and in Pisces, that points to either a vata (Mercury is a vataplanet) and/or a kapha (Pisces is 

a kapha sign) cons tu on. 

4. Another factor that plays a role in the analysis is the posi on of the Moon. The Moon, because she gives shape to 

earthly ma ers, is an important influence on the human body. The ques ons we have to ask here are in which sign is 

the Moon placed and is the Moon in conjunc on with other planets.  

The strongest planet in the horoscope is important. O en, this concerns a planet placed in its own sign or is exalted 

and placed in a house where it can develop its energy (for example houses 1, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10 or 11). If a certain planet 

in the horoscope is prominent, then that planet will color all the aspects of the life of the person involved, including 

his cons tu on. 

Every individual is cons tuted of the three doshas, but each and every individual inherit these doshas in different 

propor ons resul ng in different body cons tu on. According to the concept of Ayurveda, there are seven body 

types: 

Mono Types – (vata, pi a and kapha predominant) 

Dual Types – (vata‐pi a, pi a‐kapha or kapha‐vata) 

Equal Types – (vata, pi a and kapha in equal propor ons) 

Most individuals are mixed types. So we can have a vata‐kapha type, a pi a‐kapha type, etc. To determine the prom‐

inent nature or Dosha through astrology, we should measure the strength of planet, house and house lord. Accord‐

ing to the rules of Astrology, we should take into considera on the planet placed in house‐sign, placement of the 

house lord in house‐sign. Thus, by knowing the strength and the nature of a planet & sign, we can establish the type 

of the dosha causing the disease.

Example: Ketu is also in the 6th house which acts like Mars. Mars, Jupiter and Aries sign denotes Pi a and Kapha 

Dosha. So this individual can suffer from diseases caused by Pi a and Kapha. In this chart Jupiter is 2nd and 5th lord. 

In Chalit Chakra, Ketu has gone to 5th house, so effected areas for diseases are 2nd and 5th house. We can now re‐

late the body parts indicated by these houses. According to the rules of Astrology, Jupiter is weak by its placement in 

Dusathan but Mars is strong and auspicious being Lagna Lord and is exalted. So the sufferings from the diseases will 

be less. If Mars was in 8th or 12th house, it would have aggravated the diseases.

Meditation and Hypnosis : All in the Mind

by Kavita Harlalka There are many and varied explana ons about the nature and purpose of both medita on and hypnosis. From  me immemorial the ac vity of direc ng awareness and focusing a en on in the pursuit of under anding and healing has been prac ced by all races and in all cultures. In fa  normal waking awareness itself is a kind of trance  ate. A er all, a considerable degree of fo‐cused awareness or filtering is required to engage in the mo  mundane ac vi es.   Imagine standing on a crowded train pla orm with the noise and images of thousands of passengers, billboards and buskers; a literal avalanche of millions of discreet bits of informa on. Now imagine trying to carry on a conversa on with a friend or simply buy a magazine or read a train schedule without the innate ability to filter out the vast majority of sensory input. The ability of individuals to focus awareness is natural and necessary.  

 Medita on and hypnosis have in common that they both build on innate human abili es to unconsciously filter extraneous s muli while consciously direc ng and focusing a en on. In medita on, as it is commonly under‐stood, the purpose may be simple relaxa on, the altering of awareness or the pursuit of inner wisdom and enlightenment by the direct experience of moment to moment reality. Hypnosis, and more specifically the prac ce of hypnotherapy, recognizes and exploits the therapeu c value of consciously direc ng awareness and focusing a en on.   In some respects the crowded train pla orm with all its images and noise may be an apt analogy for the common condi on of the mind when it is not specifically engaged or focused on some task – whether playing bingo or designing a nuclear reactor. There is a Buddhist phrase that describes the condi on of the unfocussed or in Buddhist terms, the untrained mind, as monkey mind. Desires, judgments, concerns and worries incessantly arise and disappear of their own accord. Rene Descartes is said to have famously declared, “I think therefore I am” – just as correctly, he might have said, “I am therefore I think”. It appears that we are thought producing organisms.  

 Unfortunately, for many the thinking that arises consists of fears and worries o en stemming from factors beyond personal con‐trol and is commonly frustra ngly repe ve and self cri cal. Over  me many create an iden ty out of this kind of thinking. They literally become their problems. Clearly this kind of habitual mind environment contributes to a greatly diminished experience in the quality of life and can be a major contribu ng factor in all kinds of troubling issues; from lack of confidence and social anxie‐ty to depression and other psychological condi ons, including coping behaviors like substance abuse and addic ons of all kinds. Here is where hypnosis and medita on can each help in their own way  Hypnosis, while extremely beneficial for general relaxa on and stress release, is more o en considered a therapeu c interven‐on dealing with specific issues over a definite period of  me. Medita on is more o en thought of as an ongoing endeavor that 

contributes in a general way to health and sense of well being. For many, medita on is an enduring life long prac ce.  It is commonly believed that the purpose or func on of medita on is to stop thinking; to experience an empty mind. Nothing could be farther from the truth, or more difficult to a ain. Among other things medita on is a way to realize – to make real by direct experience, that we are not our thoughts and that there is a more permanent, more stable self or awareness beneath the level of thinking. As this realiza on deepens over  me it contributes tremendously to life sa sfac on on many different levels; mental, physical and spiritual.  The prac ce of medita on simply requires an object to focus on; whether an image, a phrase or, as an example here, simply the

breath. Awareness is focused on the breath to the best of one’s ability and when it is no ced that a thought has arisen; regard‐less of the content of the thought awareness is simply returned to the breath. This process is carefully a ended to and con n‐ued for a predetermined length of  me. There is no other absolute requirement for medita on. Eyes may be open or closed; the back should be rela vely straight and the body relaxed. Over  me the length of the medita on or si ng may be lengthened from a daily 5 or 10 minutes to 20 or 30 minutes. With minimal training this kind of open awareness of the present can easily be experienced during almost any ac vity. This kind of prac cal medita on transfers the benefits of formal seated medita on to the day to day experience of life.   The prac ce of hypnosis requires li le more than a subject willing to relax, pay a en on and simply follow instruc ons. One of the great misconcep ons about hypnosis is that it involves a loss of consciousness. Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness or percep on in which the body is highly relaxed and the mind is sharply focused and recep ve to therapeu c sugges on. With the guidance of a hypnotherapist the subject gradually enters into a very aware, deeply relaxed state. When deeply relaxed and sharply focused the mind is able to support suggested changes in mood thought and behavior.   One of the shared goals of Hypnosis and medita on is to help individuals to develop their innate ability to focus and direct con‐scious a en on. Considering the degree to which thought contributes to state: the felt sense of well being, sa sfac on and hap‐piness, it is hard to conceive of any other single human endeavor more valuable than cul va ng the ability to focus a en on and direct awareness.

individual self with  the God.  It accepts all  the aspects of  life  in  totality and  teaches  the 

path of realiza on through Divine Grace. 

  

This philosophy in the present form can be traced to the eighth Century Sage, Vasugupta 

to whom Shiv Sutras were revealed. His famous descendents were Somananda, Utpaldeva 

and Abhinavgupta, who gave a concrete shape and founda on to this philosophy.

Kashmir Shaivism  occupies  a  dis nguished  posi on 

among  the  various  schools  of  religious creed and thought. 

This universal philosophy  focus‐ es on rela on between God, 

Nature  and  Man,  which  over‐ comes  all  the  barriers  of 

diverse human‐cultures. It  leads  to  the  highest  level  of  self‐

realiza on,  revealing  the  inner  most  secrets  of  the  nature 

of Self. All the aspects of life are  integrated  and  taken  in  to‐

tality.  Thus,  rather  than  nega‐ on and denial, it celebrates 

life.  Kashmir  Shaivism  is  the  school  of  Indian  philosophy 

which  can  inspire  us  for  both  material  and  spiritual  pro‐

gress. 

  

The  prime  focus  of  Kashmir  Shaivism  is on  the Ul mate 

Reality  called Param Shiva. This  basic  point  is  to  recognize 

this  source  from  which  ema‐ nates  everything  and  into 

which  merges  everything.  Param  Shiva  is  beyond  de‐

scrip on, beyond  all manifesta‐ on,  beyond  limita on  of 

form,  me  and  space.   He  is  eternal,  infinite,  all  pervad‐

ing, all knowing and all powerful.  In fact, this reality is ineffable and beyond all descrip ons. 

  

A er  our  stress  on  this  basic  reality  called  Param  Shiva,  let  us  seek  and  understand  this  philosophy.  Kashmir 

Shaivism. It is a process of recognizing or discovery of individual soul as one with the Universal Being through correct 

knowledge of  the  "Descend"  from Godhood  to manhood. The next  is  "Ascend" or going back  to Godhood. Lastly 

great stress is given to "Devo on" towards the Ul mate Reality called Param Shiva. 

           

As regards the Great Descend, Kashmir Shaivism postulates 36 categories or "ta vas" to explain the process of cos‐

mic evolu on or universal experience, i.e., from God hood to veiling or obscuring force of nature called Maya Shak  

leading to various psycho ‐ physical elements and finally the Panch Mahabhutas ‐ five great elements: Earth, Water,

Fire, Air and Ether.  

The first outward manifesta on of the divine crea ve energy is called "Shiva ‐ Ta va".  It is the ini al crea ve move‐

ment of Paramasiva and is support of all things in the manifest world, like the canvas of a pain ng. Next, the "Shak ‐

Ta ava" is ac ve or kine c cosmic energy that effects the divine consciousness into ac on. 

       

"Maya" is the veiling or obscuring force of nature that creates a sense of differen a on.  As such, it makes universal 

consciousness which is unity, appear as duality and mul plicity. The result of the limita on of Maya are "Purusha" 

and "Prakri ", the limited being and his nature. Here the dual world of mind and ma er is permanently established. 

This follows various mental opera ons, ascertaining intelligence, sense percep ons, ego, etc. The process is com‐

plete finally with the gross Panch Mahabutas as referred above. 

 

Now, let us consider the Ascend or going back to Godhood. What is source of pain and frustration- duality and moving away from Godhood! So, it is natural that we must strive to go back to Godhood. For this there has to be Shak path‐ 

the descend of Divine Grace.  In order to earn Grace, one has to undergo spiritual discipline, known as “Upyas” or 

Trika Yoga. Depending upon poten al of individual, these means or yoga have been categorized with par cular em‐

phasis as Anupaya (supreme means‐ Bliss), Shambopaya (higher means‐ Will), Shaktopaya (medium means‐ 

Knowledge) and Anvopaya (inferior means‐ Ac on). However, it must always be remembered that descend of the 

Divine Grace‐Shak path‐ is independent of human efforts. 

   

Kashmir Shaivism emphasizes that one has to discover the inner “Bliss”. Let us not suppress the senses, do not tor‐

ture the body or mind, etc. Forcible control will lead to adverse effect. Be as you are. When one discovers inner bliss 

he/she will give up fascina on for outer worldly enjoyments. Outwardly one may perform the age old tradi ons but 

inwardly he/she has to seek exact truth through the prac ces taught in Trika Yoga. There is no restric on based on 

colour, creed or gender as eligibility for ini a on in this Yoga. 

  

As regards "Devo on", it is an essen al aid to all the prac ces.  An aspirant not blessed with devo on for the Lord 

cannot succeed in the prac ce or Saivayoga. A er inculca ng the principles and treading the path as explained 

above, we should surrender and submit to the Ul mate Reality. This will, no doubt, lead us to the ul mate goal. 

  

This philosophy is very relevant for present  mes. It inspires us for both material and spiritual progress. It stresses 

posi ve acceptance of material world rather than the philosophy of escapism. Thus it can serve as a sound basis for 

organising our lives. We can rather say that God has made man in His own image. It is His Own Maya Shak  which 

makes man to see differently.  Therefore, real joy can be gained as we live in this world and go about our 

work.  Avoiding suppression and denial like great puritans, we should exercise modera on in living and turning away 

from the ambi on of wealth, power and pleasures of senses.  This will prepare us for the inward journey to realise 

God. 

  

The youth should remember that no problem of individual, society or na on is to be ignored. A person can not suc‐

ceed in any aim of life if he shuts his eyes towards these problems. The whole life of Lord Krishna as depicted in Ma‐

habharta is a glowing example of prac cal Shaivism. 

   

We may enjoy tasteful worldly objects as per the tradi on but consider or ponder over their origin from “the Divine 

Glory”. This will enable us to look for God in every individual, see everything as His crea on, etc., leading to maxi‐

mum love and harmony. 

  

Even as elderly persons we should be totally in world yet totally liberated from within. This example incorporated in 

our lives will definitely create an inspira on for others.

ENERGIZING RUDRAKSHA By Sashikanta Nayak

V edic astrologers recommending to their client to wear Rudraksha

(rudrākṣa , Elaeocarpus), but some me it’s not gives desire results 

to the na ve. Though various peoples think it’s not really working 

as Shiva promised in his Grantham. Every original rudrākṣa has its magne c 

effect and generally good for health but it can be a tremendous if it is proper‐

ly energies through mantra. Rudrākṣa helps na ve in case of mood swing area 

and gives mental stabili es. 

There are various kind of rudrākṣa. According to Budheswar Sahita, the color 

varies and they are in generally “White color, Blood Red, whi sh, dark color 

etc. There are thirty eight types of rudrākṣa and among them 14 types are 

most widely available. All thirty eight types of characteris c is out of the scope of this Ar cle but we should know 

how to energies the rudraksha to get maximum benefits and blessing from the Rudra. 

Different types of rudraksha give different result according to their prana pra sha(energizing) it. Without energizing 

you will get only the healing proper es because a rudraksha has electromagne c effect and can be easily iden fia‐

ble. If you take two different copper coins and will placed the rudrākṣa in between then it will start rota ng due to 

its electromagne c effect. 

The effect of the rudrākṣa is directly affect to human neural system, that’s why it is both effec ve physically and de‐

vo onally but without proper prana prathista the devo onal proper es will ward off.  Anyone can do prana pra sha 

without help of any priest or you can do it yourself.  

For rudrākṣa you should have to check which type of rudrākṣa you have or want to buy according to your require‐

ment, count the mukha and which planet the rudrākṣa donates so you need to check with that constella on. For for‐

eign audience they should have to follow and use Lahari ephemeris or any authorized vedic ephemeris to check the 

constella on ruler according to their place ruler of the day, for example to give prana prathista to 5 Mukhi (façade) 

rudrākṣa the ruler deity is Jupiter(Bṛhaspa ), Bṛhaspa  is lord of three Nakshatras or lunar mansions: Punarvasu, 

Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada and or the ruled day is Thursday. So these day and constella ons are suitable for 

the energizing the rudrākṣa of 5 façade. Auspicious constella on, lunar day(thithi), ascendant, Sivarathri (Great Night 

of Shiva or Night of Shiva), New moon, Poornima, Sankran (transmigra on of the Sun from one Rāshi) are the auspi‐

cious days for energizing it. If you have any Guru or don’t have you can pray to your God as your primary Guru be‐

cause God is having various forms. A er worshiping to guru one must start worshipping by chan ng the mantra 

“Hoom”  and dip it under the pañcāmṛta(प चामत, is a mixture of five foods used in Hindu worship and puja, usually 

mix of honey, sugar, milk, yoghurt, and ghee.)A er keeping few minutes take it off and wash it using Gangajal(The 

holy water from River Ganga, or else water kept under copper pot overnight can be used). 

Purifica on Mantra: 

Chant the below purifica on Mantra to give purifica on as states below: 

“Om Sadyājatam Prāpdhayāmi Sadyājatyebayi Namha | Bhavobādani Bhave Bhajoswā mam bhavyā bhavyā Namhā”

A er doing the above mantra ones should start applying Chandan(Sandelwood paste), Argura(Perfume), Camphor to 

the rudrākṣa and start chan ng the mantra given below: 

“Om Vamdevaya Namo Jyeshthaay Namah Shreshthay Namo Rudraay Namah Kaalay Namah Kalavikarannaay Namo 

Bal Vikaranaay Namo Balaay Namo Bala Pramathanaay Namo Sarva Bhoot Damanaay Namo Manomanaay Namah.” 

Then a er chan ng below mantra give dhoopa (incense s cks) to the r rudrākṣa  

“Om Aghorebhyo Ghorebhyo Ghor Ghor Tarebhaya Sarvebhya Sarva Sharvvebhyo Namaste Astu Rudra 

Roopebhyah” 

A er that you need to chant the below Rudragayetri mantra one round(108) me which is most important  

“Om Tatpurushaay Vidmahe Mahadevaay Dheemahi Tanno Rudrah Prachodayaat” 

Then take nine Aswatha leaf and writedown the alphabates ( a to z) or Mulamantra and put the rudrākṣa so that 

a er that you need to chant the Deva / Devi’s Energizing Mantra which the rudrakhya itself donates. Or else you 

need to chant the Eeshaan Mantra  

“Om Eeshaanah Sarvavidyaanam Eeshwar Sarvabhootaanaam Brahmaadipa  Brahmanaadhipa  Brahma Shivome 

Astu Sadaa Shivom”

Now Its  Energized  and you need to do a Pranam(Namaskar) with your two hands and have to pray to the Kalayna‐

kari Lord Shiva with his mantra chan ng 108  mes “Om Namho Shivaya” . 

And when you will wear this rudrākṣa you need to chant below mantra at that  me: 

Dharana Mantra(Mantra while Wearing) 

“Om Amangalanan Samananm Druskrustatshya  Cha | Duswapna Nasam Dhana Pradadhyam Shivam Shubham” 

So one should reenergize his rudrākṣa each year to cleaning& energizing it and one should avoid Non‐Vegetarian 

foods, alcohol, and sex during that day of energizing it. If the na ve keep his Bramhachargya and Veg food habits etc 

for six week then he or she will get tremendous result and direct blessing from Lord Shiva.  One should take off 

rudrākṣa during intercourse, period day etc to keep it energized . Also rudrākṣa should be removed during visiting to a newly

born baby and while touching of a dead body. The Same procedure is applicable to a rudrākṣa rosary mala.
