“Math Fair – Organized by Kursh Gyan Foundation, Dharawad“ Kursh Gyan Foundation, Dharawad is an organization driven with an exclusive motive to promote Vedic Mathematics among the student community. As a part of its regular annual events to promote Vedic Mathematics, a “Math Fair” was conducted by Kursh Gyan Foundation under the auspices of the Dept of Public Instruction, Dharwad for 4 days from 22 nd December to 25 th December 2012. Math Fair 2012 assumed a special significance as 22 nd December, the inaugural Day of the Math Fair was the 125 th Birth Anniversary of Shri. Srinivasa Ramanujan, the legendary Mathematician from India and this event was dedicated to this Great Mathematician and to commemorate his 125 th birth anniversary. Highlights of the Event : Inauguration: The Math Fair was inaugurated on 22 nd December, 2012. The Guests of Honor included eminent personalities. The inauguration was graced by the presence of Shri. Adiveppa Masur - Noted Politician & Businessman, Shri. Shankar Kumbi - Social Worker & Environmentalist, Shri. Vishwanath Unkalkar - Author and Vedic Math Expert, Shri. Vadiraj Katti – Trustee of Kursh Gyan Foundation & Director of iTriangle Infotech Pvt Ltd, Shri. Mukund Maigur – Director of Kriyasheela Geleyaru Dharwad, Shri. V. S Kulkarni – Principal of Govt High School Dharwad. Smt. Sumangala Dandewale – Trustee of Kursh Gyan Foundation presided over the inauguration. 1

Exhibition: One of the attractions of the Fair was an exhibition of Portraits of all Indian based Mathematicians. The exhibition portrayed the lives and achievements of Indian Mathematicians. The collections were very informative and threw light on the dormant powers of Indian Minds in Mathematics. Shri. Suresh Kulkarni – Artist & Scientist was the man behind the entire Portraits, Arts and Arrangements and was instrumental for the success of this exhibition.

Games and Puzzles: There were around 30 Counters with various types of games, brain teasers and each of these games were volunteered by School Children who were trained on Vedic Mathematics. These games were the heart of the Math Fair and were a blend of playful mathematics, puzzles and brainteasers. Ball Pyramid, Magic Squares, Tricky Locks, Cube making, Water Game, Mirror Game, Number Darts, Tower of Hanoi, Identical Squares, Shapes and Colors, Match Sticks, Chess Boards, Coins and Triangles, Tangrams were some of the games that were very much liked by the participants.

A Session on Vedic Mathematics for Quantitative Aptitude: A session on Vedic Mathematics was arranged for the aspirants of various civil services examinations. The Resource Person was Shri. Vishwanath Unkalkar, noted Author and Vedic Math Expert. The session emphasized on how Vedic Mathematics can help the aspirants in getting through the Quantitative Aptitude Tests conducted for various employments in the State and Central Governments, Banking and Finance Industry and various Private Sector Undertakings and other such opportunities.

Entertainment: One of the attractions of the Math Fair was a Drama titled “Sihi Moolangi “. The Drama was played by Kinnara Mela, Dharwad. The Drama was based on the theme of Nature and Environment.

Valedictory: The fair came to a grand end after 4 days of fun filled excitement. The Valedictory was special with the presence of Shri. K.S Amur, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, Ex Head of the Department of Mathematics, Karnataka University, Dharwad. Shri. K.S Amur is the founder member of the Sri Aurobindo Society in Dharwar. A vote of thanks was given by Kush Gyan Foundation to all the people who worked hard for the Success of the event. Certificates of Participation were given to the Volunteers. The Math Fair ended with its own imprints in the hearts and minds of the People and enriched the knowledge of Mathematics in them.
