By means of a letter, dated 4th September 2015, YourExcellency enquired from this Congregation for the Causes ofSaints if, on the part of the Holy See, there was any objection tothe Cause of Beatification and Canonization of the Servant ofGod Lourdu Xavier Savarirayan, a Diocesan Priest, who diedin the year of the Lord 1972.

Having examined the matter, I am pleased to notify, withmore certainty to Your Excellency, that there is no objectionwhatsoever on the part of the Holy See to the Cause of theBeatification and Canonization of the same Servant of God,which can be followed, observing the "Norms to be observedin Inquiries made by the Bishops in the Causes of Saints", is-sued by the same Congregation on 7 February 1983.

Dear Beloved in Christ,In the name of the Diocese of Kumbakonam,

Rev. Fr. Innocent Sebastian, appointed as postulator andapproved by myself as postulator, requested me to initiate the Causeof Beatification and Canonization of the Servant of God LourduXavier Savarirayan, diocesan priest who died on 16th, April 1972at Poondi in this diocese.

After having consulted with the Holy See, my brotherBishops and the faithful of this diocese; and having verified theexistence of a true and widespread reputation of sanctity, enjoyedby him during his life and growing even stronger after his death, aswell as ample evidence of the granting graces and favors by Godthrough his intercession, I, Antonisamy Francis, Bishop ofKumbakonam, do hereby make public the petit ion ofRev. Fr. Innocent Sebastian, the postulator of this cause, andthus declare that I am initiating the Cause of Beatification andCanonization of the Servant of God Lourdu Xavier Savarirayan.

In conformity with "The Norms to be Observed in Inquiriesmade by Bishops in the Causes of Saints", published by theCongregation for the Causes of Saints on February 7, 1983, I alsocall upon any and all, who may have useful information regardingthe Cause of Beatification and Canonization of the Servant of GodLourdu Xavier Savarirayan to bring such documents,materials or information to my attention.Given at Kumbakonam, this 27th day of April in the year of the OurLord 2016.
