When using the VCC logo, be sure that the typeface and illustration remain white or black and not transparent.

Variations for an internal organization, promotion, concept, event, or project are not permitted. Any attempts to re-create a logo by scanning, tracing, etc., will result in inconsistencies that compromise the VCC brand. Rescanning a logo from a printed piece is not permitted.

SAFE AREAS

A. The safe area is equivalent to the space spanning the top of the word “Vancouver” and the bottom of the word “Community” in the logo. Elements, such as typography or other logos, should not intrude on the logo’s safe area.

Do not place the logo too close to a folded, bound or cut edge in any design application. Maintain at least 0.25” from the fold, gutter or cut edge.

The purpose of the safe area is to maintain visibility and brand prominence when used with text, photographs or other elements.

MINIMUM LOGO SIZE

To ensure legibility, don’t reproduce the VCC logo smaller than the required height. B. 8.5” x 11”: 0.5” minimum height.C. Web: 73 pixels minimum height.D. 11” x 17” or larger: 1.25” minimum height.

Don’t alter, crop or reconfigure VCC’s logo in any way.

A. Don’t add additional identifiers for a specific campus, department or division.

B. Don’t alter logo colours.

C. Don’t alter logo elements.

D. Don’t modify the proportions of the elements or the logo itself or distort by compressing or stretching.

E. Don’t isolate logo elements.

F. Don’t use logo graphics as a standalone image.

G. Don’t add an outline around the logo.

H. Don’t rotate.

I. Don’t add a drop shadow or any other effects.

J. Don’t use outdated logos.

Avoid backgrounds that obstruct or do not allow the logo to stand out.

A. Don’t place the logo over images with busy backgrounds.

B. Always ensure the text and illustration in the VCC logo is white and not transparent or any other colour.

C. Don’t place the logo over graphics or visuals which conflict with its colour.

D. Don’t print a logo that was prepared for web purposes. Web files are low resolution and will appear blurry or pixelated in print.

USAGE• Use this wordmark in small applications where the

VCC logo is not legible.

• This wordmark can act as a supporting element where the brand has already been established. The VCC logo must always appear elsewhere on the collateral.

• When “VCC’ is used as a title, the acronym should be typeset in Europa Bold Condensed.

• When “VCC” is used within a sentence, keep the typeface as the corporate typeface, Avenir.

Pantone 376 C is VCC’s identifying colour. It is to be used in all marketing material and on-campus facilities as a highlight colour.

The brand colours are not associated with any single department, division, or entity. No one ‘owns’ the colours, their business significance, or definition except to establish and support the VCC brand.

Pantone 1797 C is only to be used in Indigenous collateral or as a highlight for alerts.

RATIO AND BLEND OF COLOURS:• Maximize use of white space for readability• Incorporate green and grey in every application• Avoid mixing differently coloured backgrounds

on the same visual element• Limit the use of colours to two primary and two

secondary colours per page• Avoid using tertiary colours• Body copy must be grey or black• Do not introduce new colours

VCC’s photography is intended to be genuine and show authenticity, warmth and staff/students in their environments.

BRAND PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES• Photography must look natural and spontaneous.

Avoid corporate cliché and overly-posed situations as they undermine the perception of VCC as a human organization. Images may be soft-focus or long-exposure, with sharp central focus.

• Photography must convey reality, not fantasy. Staging must emphasize humanity and natural surroundings by highlighting real-world scenes and genuine solutions rather than constructing artificial environments or situations for dramatic effect.

• Photography must show people in an environment where the viewers can see their and our relationship converging with the classroom and working environments.

• Photography must use bright or natural light.

These photographic techniques are not recommended:• Static, overly-posed environmental shots• Out-of-context poses in artificial environments• Use of non-human or artificial characters• Contrived or cliché scenarios• Depiction of fictional characters or situations• Collages where a composite montage style imagery

is created. e.g.: where two or more images morph or fade into each other

• Show a photo of the photo

TECHNICAL• Photography must always be rendered from a

high-quality, sharp image. • Photos used for print should be 300 dpi minimum

resolution.• Photos used for web should be 72 dpi minimum

resolution. • Photos copied from VCC or other websites are

not acceptable.

VCC PHOTO RELEASE

Any person photographed by VCC for promotional purposes is required to fill out and sign a Photo Release Form to give consent.

The release can be downloaded here for use by individual college departments.

Please keep the original copy as long as the photo is in use and send a copy of the signed release to the Marketing and Communications department.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

VCC’s CAD and BIM technologies programs offer students project-based, hands-on learning, using industry standard programs such as Autodesk Revit Structure, AutoCad and SketchUp. After two months of basic drafting training, students enter their chosen specialty: architectural, civil/structural, or steel detailing.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

· Grade 12 graduation, or equivalent (applicants who have completed Drafting 11 and 12 in high school can apply for direct entry into Term 2 of the program).

· Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 11 or Pre-calculus 11 or equivalent (trigonometry and algebra recommended).
