Spring 2016 VBSS 2016 is Almost Here! Letter from our Board President, Pam Rosenthal "Community is not a place. Community is what is taking place." I read this quote several years ago and it struck me so much that I wrote it on a PostIt note and stuck it on my bulletin board. It often reminds me of why I do the professional work that I do, and why I choose to volunteer my personal time with Leadership Sandy Springs. Ultimately, don't we all just want to live in healthy, fruitful communities where we raise happy families and break bread with our neighbors? Over the past couple of months, Leadership Sandy Springs has brought thoughtprovoking, meaningful programs to the greater community. At Live, Learn, Lead, we learned from Dr. Jim Johnson about the profound demographic trends, and how we can proactively prepare for the impact of these changes to strengthen our communities. Just a few weeks ago, we discussed our imminent transportation challenges and then came to understand how these hurdles will ultimately create greater connectivity to each other and to our community. Leadership Sandy Springs continues to bring the critical issues to the forefront to create dialogue, action and advocacy. It's true that community is what is taking place at Leadership Sandy Springs. Live, Learn, Lead Sandy Springs 2016 was a great success

LSS was honored and delighted to host the second annual Live,Learn, Lead Sandy Springs in February featuring Dr. Jim Johnsonof the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise, UNC Chapel Hill. Dr.Johnson shared many fascinating and sobering demographictrends and statistics with Sandy Springs residents. Theinformation he presented illustrated the shifts many communitiesare experiencing. In his humorous style, he provided insights intohow to face these challenges as well as inspiration to continue theconversation in our local environment.

Alumni Recognition Award Each year at Graduation we recognize alumni whohave been outstanding leaders in our community. Nowis the time to nominate for this year.

Nominees must have graduated at least five yearsago. The goal of the LSS Alumni Recognition Program is twofold. The program is intended not only to honor the contributionsthat individual alumni have made to the community, but also tobuild relationships between members of different LSS class years.

By honoring the ongoing accomplishments of LSS graduates intheir volunteer work, the Alumni Recognition Program alsoacknowledges the diversity of the leadership roles they havetaken. LSS is proud to recognize the personal commitments thatthe alumni have made; their dedicated involvement in thecommunity is an important affirmation of the LSS experience.

* Nominations will be based on volunteer involvement in thecommunity and nonprofit organizations (that is, beyond theirnormal employment duties).* To be eligible for nomination, an alumnus must be an LSSgraduate for at least 5 years.* The Alumni Award Committee is comprised of previoushonorees, who will meet annually for this purpose.
