VARSITY London is fashion’s only collections magazine solely dedicated to London’s emerging talent. The 2014 archive is our third year documenting the work of MA Fashion graduates from Central Saint Martins, the Royal College of Art, Kingston University, and the London College of Fashion. VARSITY London is the only publication which aims to provide comprehensive coverage of the graduates’ collections, talent and process. The recent surge in the number of university level fashion courses has been inescapable. Academia’s growing interest in fashion has now sustained itself long enough to be considered more than a trend. The fact that so many academic institutions are now embracing fashion can be seen as a positive sign. For arguably too long, fashion has been allowed to sprint forward without ample time for reflection. By increasing the number of university fashion courses, a new arena is emerging within which young fashion designers can experiment with fashion on their terms. These courses allow designers to rethink the values of the reigning fashion system and to adapt fashion to their own personal world and ambitions. The results are impressively inventive.
