VARIOUS AWARENESS PROGRAMMES CONDUCTED BY THE DISTRICT

1) Cleanliness Drive on every 1st & 3rd Sundays for Swachcha Cachar
Initiative:
2) World Environment Day:
World Environment Day was announced by the United Nations General Assembly in
1972 to mark the opening of the Human Environment on 5th June, 1972. It is on the
same day the United Nations’ Environment Programme (UNEP) was created. It is one of
the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates world-wide
awareness of the environment and
enhances social attention and action.
Govt. of Assam, PHE Deptt. has
directed to organize World Environment
Day to be celebrated on 5th June’ 2016
to create awareness among the public
and children by involving students’
group, NGOs and CBOs. Environment
Programme is one that results in
improvement of human well-being, social equity while significantly reducing
environmental risks and ecological scarcities.
World Environment Day was celebrated on 5th June’ 2016 under the guidance of Shri
Viswanathan, S., IAS, the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Silchar. 3 Nos. of
Programmes have been carried on the very day namely Cleanliness (Safai Abhiyan),
Rally and Plantation.
The Objectives of Cleanliness Drive has been taken up keeping in mind the very saying
“Cleanliness is next to Godliness” which has been initiated from the Deputy
Commissioner’s Office, Cachar, Silchar
at 6:00 A.M. campuses of all Offices of
the District Heads, Educational
Institutions, N.I.T., Assam University,
Civil Hospital, Silchar Medical College
& Hospital, Circle Offices, Block
Offices,
All Police Stations, G.P. Offices, and Silchar Municipal Area were cleaned by the
Officers and Staffs of the respective Offices to keep the city clean. Drains and Dustbins
were also cleaned and Garbage Clearance has been made by the Municipal Board and
Town Committee, Silchar.
A Rally has marched at 8:30 A.M. starting from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office,
Cachar, Silchar via Central Road to Children’s Park, Silchar with around 300 Nos. of students
including teachers, Officers, Officials including NGOs and other related Organizations to create
awareness amongst the public.
To prevent the Eco-System Services and loss of Bio-diversity and to enhance Resource
efficiency, plantation of saplings has been done on the occasion of World Environment Day.
Places for Plantation have been selected as Office Campus, School Campus, Silchar Medical
College & Hospital, Civil Hospital, Assam University Campus, Roadside, Children’s Park ,
within the boundary of Water Supply Plants
at various locations, Forest Range Office,
Block Office Campuses, G.P. Office
Campuses including the SAGY Village,
Circle Office Campuses, all Police Stations
and Punjee areas. Bamboo Enclosures
have been made for future maintenance of
plantation and Awareness Meeting has
been conducted at Cachar College on Eco-
friendly Environment. The dustbins have
been provided by the Rotary Club, Silchar,
Moreover, Cleanliness Drive is being carried out on every 1st and 3rd Sundays of every month
and different measures for the same like Solid Waste Management Practice, Construction of
CSCs, door to door collection of garbage are being taken. Special Drive for cleaning of Toilets
in all Govt. Offices, Petrol Pumps, Restaurants, Railway Stations has been organized in recent
past. In addition, every Citizen is responsible to make the city green and clean.
