This unique model embeds Certified Specialty Pharmacists throughout several outpatient specialty clinics within Vanderbilt University Medical Center, which allows for collaborative, multi-disciplinary patient care. All Vanderbilt University Medical Center pharmacy residency programs are ASHP-accredited or in the accreditation process. They all utilize the ASHP Residency Learning System extensively, which offers each resident a well-planned experience that is tailored, personalized and progressive.

• Participate in specialty pharmacy market strategy, access and contracting initiatives

• Work with the safety and quality team on operational, clinical, safety and quality metrics and policies to maintain and comply with URAC, ACHC and specialty pharmacy standards

• Work with patient engagement and medication fulfillment teams in the Vanderbilt Specialty Outpatient Pharmacy and Vanderbilt Integrated Pharmacy Fulfillment Center

• Participate in Specialty Pharmacy and associated committees

R O T A T I O N S

Clinical training focuses on management of a full range of disease states in specialty pharmacy along with the complex process of access to specialty medications. Rotations are designed to ensure experience is gained with the ability to initiate therapy as well as follow patients as a member of the longitudinal healthcare team. Clinical care focuses on pharmacotherapy evaluation and management, direct patient and family education and training, prescription management, therapy monitoring and adherence optimization.

Clinical

Clinical practice experience in key specialty pharmacy domains will be gained while rotating through the URAC- and ACHC-accredited Vanderbilt Specialty Pharmacy and associated specialty clinics. The resident should expect 70% of their time to be allocated to clinical rotations and duties.

Staffing

• Every other Friday evening/Saturday morning at Vanderbilt Specialty Pharmacy

• Clinical on-call one week per month

Research

• Work with our robust Specialty Outcomes and Research Team to design and conduct presentable and publishable research projects

• Present research at appropriate local, regional and/or national professional meetings

• Manuscript development and submission

Administration and Quality and Operations

• Work with the leadership team on departmental and organizational needs, goals and initiatives
