1 Sep 2003 Statement of Purpose To provide a singular standard written source of Department Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Medical Protocols which promote the effective and efficient service delivery of the Vandenberg Fire Department. General Our SOP/ Protocol Manual contains written standardized procedures. This Manual will be utilized by our firefighters as the official reference for Standard Operating Procedures and Medical Protocols. Responsibility It is the responsibility of the Operations Chief to review procedures every two years or as needed and make changes as appropriate. Procedure
It is the responsibility of all firefighters to thoroughly familiarize themselves with, and conform to our SOP’s / Med Protocols.
Standard Operating Procedures / Medical Protocols in the form of reasonable mandates are necessary for the proper operation of any emergency services organization. Such SOP’s / Protocols must be standardized in a workable format, which is made available to all levels of our department.
Thorough knowledge of these SOP’s / Protocols by firefighters is essential for the development for teamwork, safety, efficiency, morale and uniform responses resulting in the highest level of services to our community.
The necessity of periodic review and revision of procedures and operational practices are recognized as a critical component of our emergency response system.
This manual cannot be expected to provide a solution to every question or problem, which may arise in an organization established to provide an emergency services delivery system. It is expected however, that it will be sufficiently comprehensive to cover the majority of operational activities, which involve our firefighters.
The existence of these written SOP’s / Protocols are not intended to limit our firefighters in the exercise of sound judgment or initiative in taking action in extraordinary situations which may arise in the course of emergency response.
