Highway 99 from Vancouver to Whistler is
more commonly referred to as the “Sea to
Sky highway” and has been voted the “Most
RomanticRoadintheWorld”.
The drive offers lots of opportunities to snap
memorable photos as it takes you past snow-
capped mountain peaks, rushing waterfalls,
emeraldlakesandnumerouspointsofinterest.
Highway99isalsoundergoinga$600million
upgrade, with construction set to complete
in 2009. Drivers are asked to use caution
through allwork sites and are reminded that
trafficfinesaredoubleinconstructionzones.

Porteau Cove Provincial ParkAn excellent place to stop and stretch your
legs, with a picnic area at the entrance to
the park, public washrooms, parking, a large
beach,publicpierandawesomesceneryallat
onelocation.
BC Museum of Mining – Britannia BeachThe town of Britannia Beach was originally
centred around an active copper mine which
hasbecometheBCMuseumofMining,anatural
historicsitethathasalsobeenusedasalocation
formorethan50filmsandtelevisionshowssuch
as theX-Files,Smallville,DarkAngel,Stargate,
InsomniaandScoobyDooTwo.
shannon falls Located just before the town of Squamish,
Shannon Falls can easily be seen as you pass
byonHighway99,but it iswellworth the five-
minutewalkfromthelargeparkinglottogetup
closetothefallsandsnapafewpictures.You’ll
also find washroom facilities and picnic tables
rightbesidethelot.
alice Lake Provincial ParkJustnorthofSquamish isAliceLakeProvincial
Park, a397-hectarecampground ina forest of
old-growthhemlockfeaturinghiking/bikingtrails,
picnic areas, two protected beaches and the
popularAliceLakeitself.
Tantalus LookoutYou won’t need much prompting to stop here
to admire the awe-inspiring view and shoot a
pictureortwotoshowyourfriendsbackhome.
Therearetwolookoutpointsfromwhichtoview
thespectacularTantalusRange,onegoingnorth
andonegoingsouth.
Garibaldi Provincial ParkThe195,000-hectareGaribaldiProvincialPark
isbyfarthelargestparkinSeatoSkycountry.
Most of this park is a vast protected wildlife
areawhile theportionsituatedalongHighway
99 is accessible through a network of well
maintainedtrails.
Brandywine fallsThis park is another popular spot for visitors
to the area. From the parking lot right off
Highway 99 an easy 10-minute walk through
the forest takes you to a viewing platform for
the spectacular Brandywine Falls. The 143-
hectareparkfeaturesapicnicarea,trailsand
washrooms.
