Common Characteristics of Werewolves

Werewolves in movies and old stories have something in common. They are dangerous, cunning and even evil, and they inspire fear and dread.

They infect others with a bite or scratch

Until they transform they look and act human

Wolves in Sheep’s ClothingThey are a threat to the Body of

ChristThey are dangerous, cunning and evilThey infect others with false

doctrines and false teachingsUntil they reveal themselves they will

Beware of Wolves in Sheep clothing

come in among you after I leave, not sparing the flock. 30 Even some men from your own group will rise up and distort the truth in order to draw a following. 31 Watch out! Remember the three years I was with you—my constant watch and care over you night and day, and my many tears for you.

WarningPaul is calling the Ephesians leaders to watch over and protect God’s flock – His church purchased with his blood…Why?He understood that the greatest threat to the church is not from without but from within. The real danger is from those who look and act like Christians but in reality they are wolves in sheep’s clothing whose intent is to destroy the body of Christ.

Beware of False Teachers

harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. 16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.

Beware of Ungodly People

about the salvation we all share. But now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the faith that God has entrusted once for all time to his holy people. 4 I say this because some ungodly people have wormed their way into your churches, saying that God’s marvelous grace allows us to live immoral lives. The condemnation of such people was recorded long ago, for they have denied our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

8 In the same way, these people—who claim authority from their dreams—live immoral lives, defy authority, and scoff at supernatural beings.9 But even Michael, one of the mightiest of the angels, did not dare accuse the devil of blasphemy, but simply said, “The Lord rebuke you!” (This took place when Michael was arguing with the devil about Moses’ body.) 10 But these people scoff at things they do not understand. Like unthinking animals, they do whatever their instincts tell them, and so they bring about their own destruction.

12When these people eat with you in your fellowship meals commemorating the Lord’s love, they are like dangerous reefs that can shipwreck you. They are like shameless shepherds who care only for themselves.

16 These people are grumblers and complainers, living only to satisfy their desires. They brag loudly about themselves, and they flatter others to get what they want.

17 But you, my dear friends, must remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ said. 18 They told you that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly desires. 19 These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God’s Spirit in them.

Protecting the Flock

Identify wolves by their actions (they will not go against their natural instinct)

Identify wolves by their teachings (they will oppose the truth of God)

Identify wolves by their behavior (They will use grace to justify their immoral lifestyles)

Identify wolves by their disrespect for authority (They exude pride rather than humility)

Identify wolves by their attitude of discontent (They are grumbles and complainers who are never satisfied)

Identify wolves by their divisiveness (They create factions within the church by pitting Christians against one another)

As Christians we are called to:

Feed the Sheep

Convert the Goats

Expose the wolves

Defend the faith
