Vision
• To shape a future where all European forests are vital, productive and multifunctional.
• Where forests contribute effectively to sustainable development, through ensuring human well-beinga healthy environment and economic development in Europe and across the globe.
• Where the forests’ unique potential to support a green economy, livehoods, climate changemitigation, biodiversity conservation, enhancing water quality and combating desertification isrealized to the benefit of society.
Mission
• To advance this vision and comply with the goals and European 2020 targets, ministers decided that“FOREST EUROPE mission is to enhance the cooperation on forest policies in Europe under theleadership of ministers, and to secure and promote Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) with theaim of maintaining the multiple functions of forests crucial to society”.

FOREST EUROPE Valuation of Forest Ecosystem Services (PoW 4)
Forest Europe Work Programme addresses actions of Oslo Ministerial Decision:European Forests 2020 including achieving the full value of forest ecosystemservices across Europe:
“the full value of forest ecosystem services across Europe will be estimated with a view tousing common valuation approaches, and that values will be increasingly reflected inrelevant national policies and market-based instruments such as payments for ecosystemservices”.

Point 4. Valuation of forest ecosystem services
Stressing the importance of the full range of forest goods and services,
FOREST EUROPE will develop a common approach to valuation of
forest ecosystem services and promote its use, with the aim of raising
awareness of the contributions to societies of multiple forest functions, to
serve informed decision making and to assess achievements against the
2020 Targets
Activity: Development of pan-European valuation approach to
forest ecosystem services
a. Expert group to explore and propose a pan-European approach
to valuation of forest ecosystem services [2012-2013]
b. Workshop to consolidate the proposals and identifying effective priorities
and measures to promote its use [2013-2014].
FOREST EUROPE Valuation of Forest Ecosystem Services (PoW 4)
•Expert Group to explore and propose a pan-Europeanapproach to valuation of forest:
o 3 Sub-Working Groups operating on-line:
� SWG1: Identification of forest ecosystem services
� SWG2: Toolbox with valuation of FES approaches tothe pan-European region
� SWG3: Means to facilitate implementation
o Group’s Final report will summarise on-line work
o Last meeting of Expert Group (February 2014) toshare the work developed by the Sub-Grops.
•Workshop on valuation of FES (Serbia, Autumn 2014)
o Open forum for discussion (2 days) on theresults of the Expert Group to draw conclusionswithin FOREST EUROPE scope.
