We go deeper into details to improve production efficiency. As lifetimes of production assets tend to be extended, system obsolescence becomes a risk. Suppliers are no longer able to support the installed equipment. Spare parts become unavailable and the risk of production shutdowns of undetermined durations become high. This project was targeted towards the Safety and Control System (SAS or ICSS) and covered the Human Machine Interface (HMI) and server installation off- and on-shore for the BP operated Valhall field. The initial phase consisted of a FEED where six different options were considered, and the best way forward was established using a number of risk reviews involving representatives from operation and projects. Detailed estimates were developed for the execute phase and after 10 months execution, the servers and clients were installed. Purpose of the project was extending the lifetime of ABB SAS on Valhall (800xA servers and software) until 2019 without production shutdown. All servers and clients were upgraded without any disturbances during operation of the field, within budget. Eldor AS responsibilities and deliveries: FEED study to establish obsolescence management plan. Management assist during execution. Specify and ensure technical compliance with client scope of works. Project control, cost and schedule reporting. Technical interface management. Total system delivery: • Upgrade (new computers and new Windows version) of 52 servers and 30 clients in 10 cabinets offshore • Upgrade (new computers and new Windows version) of 8 clients onshore • Replaced Antivirus with Whitelisting software Related lifetime extension services from Eldor AS: Safety and Automation System upgrade Telecom system upgrade Control Room and Operational Philosophy Alarm rationalisation and management
