Distinguishing between short-lift and standard globe valves
Short-lift valves incorporate a return spring. Consequently, inorder to open the valve the actuator has to overcome the forceof the spring. In turn, in order to close the valve the spring has toovercome the force of the actuator.
Standard globe valves have no return spring. Therefore, the lin-ear actuator must open and close the valve and the spindle mustbe able to exert both a retracting force and an extending forceon the stem of the valve.

ApplicationsThe NRDVX24-SR-T-.. actuator is intendedfor motorizing Cazzaniga and Siemensshort-lift valves.
Mode of operationModulating control is employed with astandard control signal of DC 0...10 V. Asynchronizing function is triggered eachtime the power supply is energized. Theactuator runs at high speed to the closedposition (CLOSED limit switch) and syn-chronizes itself. The working range of 2...10 V can bechanged to 0...10 V by removing jumperB2 (see Operating controls, Page 7).
Product featuresEasy direct mounting on the body of thevalve. The stroke is adjusted at the factoryto suit the type of valve. The mountingbracket, suitable for the particular type ofvalve, is an integral part of the actuator.

Manual operation
If the black rotary knob is depressed andturned from position A (Automatic) to thehand symbol, manual operation will bepermanently engaged. Then, any controlsignal that might be received will not beacted upon.
The manual operating system incorpor-ates a slipping clutch and is overload-proof. When the manual lever (black) ismoved clockwise the actuator spindleretracts and the valve closes (Position 0).
Operating controls of the NRDVX24-SR-T-..
Jumpers B1 and B2 will be found underthe lid of the housing. In order to gainaccess to them first loosen the centralscrew of the black hand lever and removethe two Philips screws securing the lid.
Installing the NRDVX..-T on short-lift valves
1) Set the manual operating lever to«Hand». Rotate the black lever clockwiseto the end-stop. The lever should now bein the «Zero» position. If it is not, loosenthe central screw of the lever, pull it outand turn to the «Zero» position. Then re-secure the lever by tightening the centralscrew finger-tight.
2) Screw the actuator on to the thread ofthe valve neck.
3) Tighten the valve neck connection andreturn the manual operating lever to the«A» position (Automatic).

Integral terminals for easy wiring on-site
NV.. linear actuators (1000 N / 800 N 1), max. stroke 20 mm)
Integral easy-to-readposition indicator
Depending on the type of construction ofthe particular valve the closed point canbe in either the up position or the downposition. With most makes of valve, or withspecific ranges of valves from specificmakers, the closed point is in the up posi-tion when the stem of the valve is fully ex-tended from the valve body. The flowalong the control path is 0% and, with 3-way valves, the flow along the bypasspath is 100%. (The sealing part of the valvepoints upwards and is shaped like a cone).
However, there are also 2-way valvesavailable with the closed point in the downposition. With this type of valve the stem isfully retracted into the valve body and theflow along the control path is also 0%.(The sealing part of the valve points down-wards and is shaped like an invertedcone).

Remarks (will be deleted before printing)for Controllers
Ron: when “Hub” refers to “Actuator” it is “stroke”; – when it refers to “valve” it is “lift”P.56 (back side): the addresses are shorted (e.g. Tel., Fax, without www etc.P2: The notice downstairs "Important.." is modified from the base we had before.
So we have to modifie later all other versions like H4 Doc or prospects too. P4 I changed the two titles: Type code..and Overview.. with “stroke” too – OKP8... The old “inhibiting force” is definitely dead for “blocking force”!P10: Instead of "nominal voltage" = "rated voltage" – OKP12: We write shortly: "hexagonal key"! (Only on Page 21: 2x "hexagon socket-head key"P.21: Text upstairs will be later modified for H4 too! P.38: Altough the german title is not nominal lift 10...16 mm. (the same on P.46) – we still use it for uniformityP.54: The legends “Insulation..” not use anymore (existing in several publications)

ApplicationsThe NV..-3-T actuator is intended formotorizing globe valves by exerting anoperating force on the valve stem in eithera retracting or an extending direction.
Mode of operationThe brushless motor is controlled by a3-point control signal. When the actuator is lifting and it reachesthe seat for either VALVE OPEN or VALVECLOSED the supply of current to the act-uator is reduced. Thanks to the use of abrushless motor the control signals Y1and Y2 do not need to be interruptedexternally (therefore, overload protectionis assured).
Functional reliabilityThe electric motor is de-energized when theactuator runs on to its internal end-stops.
Manual operation Inserting a 5 mm hexagonal key and turn-ing it clockwise causes the spindle of theactuator to emerge from the housing (anextending action). The spindle will remainin that position until the power supply isenergized (the controller has first priority).
Position indication The stroke is indicated mechanically onthe UNV-... mounting bracket.
Safety noteThe linear actuator contains no compon-ents which the user can replace or repair.
DimensionsThe dimensions depend on the type ofUNV-... mounting bracket used; see fromPage 22.

Functional description
The terminals for connecting the lead andthe S1 control device will be found underthe cover of the actuator.
The factory setting of actuating time is 7.5s/mm. By moving the slide switch S1.1 tothe «ON» position this time can be redu-ced by approximately half.
The closing point of the valve is definedwith slide switch S1.2. The factory settingof the closing point is «up». When a Y1signal is present the actuator spindleextends and the valve opens (when the«up» closing point has been selected).
The direction of travel of the actuatingspindle can also be inverted by interchang-ing the Y1 and Y2 conductors.

NV24-MFT-T, NVG24-MFT2, NV24-MFT2 Direct-coupled actuators for globe valves
ApplicationsThe NV24-MFT-T, NVG24-MFT2 andNV24-MFT2 actuators are intended formotorizing globe valves by exerting anoperating force on the valve stem in eithera retracting or an extending direction.
Mode of operationModulating control is effected by means ofa standard signal of DC 0...10 V.The control signal is produced by themicroprocessor and acts on the brushlessmotor. When the actuator is powered upfor the first time the stroke is acquiredautomatically and stored in the micro-processor.The control signal and the runn-ing time are then adapted to suit that val-ue of stroke. If no correct adaption isperformed at that time (e.g. because thereis no valve mounted) another adaption willbe performed the next time the actuator ispowered up. When the actuator is liftingand it reaches the seat for either VALVEOPEN or VALVE CLOSED the supply ofcurrent to the actuator is reduced. Theactuator has an anti-blocking featurewhich, should dirt on the valve seat pre-vent it from closing properly, causes theactuator to move several times in the openand close directions over 1 to 5% stroke.
High-speed versionWith the Type NV24-MFT2 actuator therunning time can be reduced to 35 s or17 s for 10 mm stroke.
Functional reabilityThe actuator is short-circuit-proof andprotected against polarity reversal. Thestroke is adapted automatically.
Manual operation Inserting a 5 mm hexagonal key and turn-ing it clockwise causes the spindle of theactuator to emerge from the housing (anextending action). The spindle will remainin that position until the power supply isapplied (the controller has first priority).
Position indication The stroke is indicated mechanically onthe UNV-... mounting bracket and themaximum stroke adjusts itself automatic-ally. There is a two-colour LED status indi-cator under the cover of the housing.
Safety noteThe linear actuator contains no compon-ents which the user can replace or repair.

In the case of the classic 3-point actuator (NV..-3-T) the actuating time can be reduced from 7.5 s/mm to 4.5 s/mm by moving theslide switch 1.1 to the «ON» position. With less than 20% of the valves used the closing point is in the down position so the slideswitch S1.2 can be set to the «ON» position.
Setting the slide switch S3.1 to the «ON» position inverts the control signal so that the valve closes as the control signal is increased. This is a simple way of matching the sequences in the actuator. With less than 20% of the valves used the closing point is in thedown position so the slide switch S3.2 must be set to the «ON» position. The position checkback signal U5 is also matched to theclosing point.
The MFT linear actuator NV..-MFT.. can also be used as a 3-point control device. However, in this case the actuator must be assignedparameters for 3-point control and be provided with a 4-wire connection. Note: It will only function with an AC 24 V power supply!

A typical use for 100% override is in a frost protection circuit. Whether or not the frost protection thermostat needs to interrupt thesignal circuit to the controller «d» depends on the particular make of controller used (it is not necessary when the signal output of thecontroller is short-circuit-proof and protected against polarity reversal).

If the power supply is interrupted the actuator spindle will move to the end stop. With Type NVF24-MFT(2)-T actuators the spindleretracts into the housing. With Type NVF24-MFT(2)-E-T actuators the spindle extends from the housing. Depending on the particu-lar design of valve with the closing point in the up or down position, the valve behaves as either an NO device (open when de-energ-ized) or an NC device (closed when de-energized).

Assembling the actuator and mounting bracket NV../UNV..
➊ If the mounting bracket (B) has beensupplied with the actuator (ordering ex-ample: NV24-3-T / UNV-002), first attachthe coupling (A) to the actuator spindle.
➋ Next, slide the mounting bracket (B) onto the coupling.
➌ Secure the mounting bracket to theactuator with the 4 screws (C). Hexagonsocket-head screws (Torx) are used inorder to ensure properly safe and secureattachment.
➍ Then slide the two «orange riders» [formechanical position indication (D)] on tothe spindle/stem coupling.T25 C

NV24-3NV230-3NV24-MFT
1) Isolate the actuator from the power supply
2) Disengaging manual operation of the NVF24-MFTTurn the hexagonal key clockwise through ca. 45º until resistance is en-countered. Then lift the key (ca. 7 mm) until the black socket for the key is le-vel with the top of the housing cover. The spring mechanism will now rotate the key counter-clockwise and the ac-tuator spindle will retract.
3) Manual operation of the NVF24-MFTTurning the hexagonal key clockwise causes the actuator spindle to extend; it must be stopped at the required po-sition of lift.
4) Locking manual operation of the NVF24-MFTTurn the hexagonal key back 3/4 turn counter-clockwise and then press it down into the cover of the housing (the black socket will move inwards ca. 7 mm). Slight counter-clockwise rotation of the key will then lock themanual operating mechanism in pos-ition.

2) Disengaging manual operation of the NVF24-MFT-ETurn the hexagonal key counter-clock-wise through ca. 45º until resistance isencountered. Then lift the key (ca. 7mm) until the black socket for the key islevel with the top of the housing cover. The spring mechanism will now rotate the key clockwise, the actuator spindle will extend fully, the postion indicator(D) will move down and the valve can be coupled up.

When an actuator is supplied togetherwith a valve, but the two items are notassembled, the spindle of the actuator isextended to approximately the 3/4 strokeposition. If necessary, the spindle can be
operated with a 5 mm (3/16”) hexagonsocket-head key (the key is not includedwith the actuator). The manual operating mechanism is over-load-proof. The spindle of the actuator will
remain at the manual setting until thepower supply to the actuator is energizedor, the next time the power supply is inter-rupted, it will move to whichever endposition has been selected.

Mounting position
Short-lift valvesThe recommended mounting positions for the NRDVX.. areeither vertically upright or horizontal. Upside down mountingis not allowed. The direction of flow must be as indicated by the valve manu-facturer and must be adhered to whatever type of system orloading is being employed.
Globe valvesGlobe valves can be mounted either vertically upright (Fig. 1)or horizontal (Fig. 2). However, it is not recommend that thevalve be mounted with the stem pointing downwards, i.e.upside down (Fig. 3). The direction of flow must be as indica-ted by the valve manufacturer and must be adhered to what-ever type of system or loading is being employed.
Maximum pressures – ∆ps-closing pressure
Short-lift valvesThe ∆ps closing pressure is governed by the return spring inthe short-stroke actuator and cannot be altered through theactuating force generated by the NDRVX actuator.
Globe valvesThe max. closing pressure∆ps, at which the actuator canstill achieve the permittedleakage rate varies accord-ing to the design of the par-ticular valve and the methodof sealing employed.
∆pMAX (max.pressure difference)This is the maximum permitted pressuredifference for long service life using theappropriate control path referred to the fullopening range of the valve. It depends onthe type of materials chosen for the valveseats. Depending on the particular makeand design of valve the value of ∆pMAX canvary for the same nominal size. The in-structions given by the valve manufactur-er should be adhered to.
Max. permitted medium temperatureThis depends on the type of valve mater-ials being used and on the length of themounting bracket. The longer the bracket, the higher the temperature of the mediumallowed.
Therefore, it is actually limited by the max-imum values of temperature permitted forthe components of the valve and the UNVmounting bracket.
MaintenanceThe actuators are maintenance-free.However, if any work needs to be carriedout on them the power supply mustalways be isolated first (by disconnectingthe electrical lead if necessary). Thepumps delivering into the appropriate sec-tions of piping must be isolated and theassociated shut-off valves closed (alloweverything to cool down if necessary andreduce the system pressure to atmos-pheric). Recommissioning should not take
place until the valve and the actuator havebeen reassembled and the pipe runsrefilled in the proper manner.
DisposalIf an actuator needs to be disposed ofit must first be disassembled into partsof different materials which must thenbe sorted before they are disposed ofcorrectly.
As an approximation:
∆ps ≈ · 1100
∆ps: Closing pressure [kPa]DN: Nominal size [mm]F: Actuating force [N]
