Thank you for taking the time to look over this sample lesson. Our goal is to provide you with quality VBS materials that are easy to use, economical, and, above all, God-honoring.

All of our materials are conservative and fundamental. All scripture used is from the King James Version. All our music is conservative.

We have tried to organize these programs in such a manner that they are easy to use. Everything you need to organize, advertise, and run a complete VBS is included.

You won’t need to buy separate teacher’s manuals, student books, or any-thing. All our materials are reproducible! You can purchase preschool VBS, color posters, and a puppet at low additional costs if you choose.

We are pleased to be able to offer you a choice in VBS themes. We currently offer nine different VBS programs. Select the one that suits your needs.

In this brochure we will be showing you sample materials from our Operation Sword & Shield VBS. The sports theme centers on focusing our eyes on the finish line of life.

We hope your questions will be answered, but feel free to email. We would be happy to discuss any additional questions you might have.

FAQ’S about VBS

Can our Teens help?

Yes! Teens can help with skits, verse games, songs, puppets, sitting with children and other areas. Some churches even use these materials with teen groups as a mission out-reach.

Do the children get anything to take home?

Yes. Copyready Fun Sheets are provided to give to the children daily. Fun Sheets include a synopsis of the Bible story, the memory verse, and fun games.

Do you use visuals with the Bible stories?

These lessons do not rely on stagnant, old-fashioned flash cards to convey the story. Instead, in many of the stories we use the chil-dren to act out certain scenes. The children are eager to help and this method firmly embeds the story into the memory of each in attendance.

You will need a dynamic story-teller who can use their voice and-body to portray the stories. You will be amazed at how a well-told story can rivet the attention of the entire audience. (We include info on story-telling and working with children on the platform.)

WE RECOMMEND A PLATFORM VBS

OR CHOOSE CLASSES INSTEAD

A platform run VBS uses onemain teacher who tells the story fromthe platform to all the children at thesame time. This format allows you touse only one teacher instead of several.

You will need an experiencedstoryteller and there are areas forother teens and adults to help withsongs, skits, etc.

It can be done! A good storyteller should have no problem keeping the at-tention of the children. And most church-es find they really love this format.

Some churches wish to use amore traditional approach to VBS. Souse classes if you choose.

Simply copy the Bible lessonsand other materials you want theteachers to use. You can open withthe group together for songs, thepuppet skit, offering, and then splitup for classes, crafts, and refreshments.

Use the format that works bestfor your church.

Story

Day TwoArmour of God Stories

Review:

Let me ask you a few questions to see if you

remember what we talked about in our last story about

the armour of God.

1. What kind of battle are we fighting? (A spiritual battle or Against

Satan)

2. What was the first piece of armour we talked about? (Helmet of

Salvation)

3. What does the helmet protect? (The mind & thoughts)

In our last lesson we talked about the fact that we are in a spiritual

battle with Satan. He tries to destroy us, but with God on our side, we

cannot lose. God gives to us armour to use in battle. It will keep us safe

from the fiery darts that Satan tries to throw at us.

• The Helmet of Salvation.

We talked about The Helmet of Salvation. That helmet is so important

because it covers our mind and thoughts with the knowledge that we have

salvation from sin. Salvation comes from Jesus Christ alone. We cannot

save ourselves but Jesus died in our place to take away our sins. His

blood bought our salvation. His death paid the price of our sin. And His

resurrection from the dead gives Him the power and authority to forgive our

sin. Because of what Jesus did on the cross, we can put on The Helmet of

Salvation.

Page 11: Vacation Bible School - QualitySpeech.com · 2020-02-05 · 2 Thank you for taking the time to look over this sample lesson. Our goal is to provide you with quality VBS materials

Today we are going to examine two more pieces of armour that God

gives to us. These two pieces are very important for a soldier to wear in

battle.

Ephesians 6:14 says, Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with

truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness.

• The Belt of Truth.

First, let’s talk about having your loins girt with truth.

Soldiers sometimes wear a thick belt or girdle around the middle of

their waist. It gives them strength in the center of their body. It helps them

to take a firm stance when they are involved in a sword fight. It holds them

upright.

God tells us that we are need to wrap this belt tightly around our

middle. It is the belt of truth. Truth in a Christian soldier’s life gives him

strength and uprightness.

Christians should be truthful. We need to be upright. We need to be

careful what we say. Truth is so important because there is strength and

integrity in truth.

The Bible says that Satan is the father of all lies. If we lie and don’t tell

the truth, we are acting more like Satan than like God. If God is your father,

then you should be wrapped in truth, never lies.

Without this belt of truth wrapped tightly around the center of all you

do and say, then you will be sure to fall. Lies can so easily trap you and trip

you up. Lies make you weak. They will pull you down. They destroy your

integrity.

Page 12: Vacation Bible School - QualitySpeech.com · 2020-02-05 · 2 Thank you for taking the time to look over this sample lesson. Our goal is to provide you with quality VBS materials

God hates lies and how disappointed He is to see His children use lies!

The truth always pleases God. The truth is always the right thing for a good

soldier. The truth allows a soldier to go into battle held firmly with strength

and integrity.

Psalm 51:6 says, Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in

the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

Proverbs 3:3 says, Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about

thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart.

So make sure that you put on your Belt of Truth!

• The Breastplate of Righteousness.

Now, let’s talk about The Breastplate of Righteousness. This piece of

armour goes over the chest area. You wear it on the front of the body. It

protects your heart.

It is very important to have a heart that is pleasing to God. Some of

the things that are produced in the heart and come out in your words and

actions are pureness, honesty, mercy, goodness. The heart is where our

emotions originate. It is where we signal the brain about what is right and

what is wrong.

The word righteousness talks about being right with God. A Righteous

person will keep sin out of his heart. If you are righteous, then you cannot

be filled with sinful thoughts, desires, or actions. Those wicked things

are unrighteous. They are sinful. Your heart needs to be protected from

unrighteousness. Only by being right with God in your heart can you be

righteous.

Page 13: Vacation Bible School - QualitySpeech.com · 2020-02-05 · 2 Thank you for taking the time to look over this sample lesson. Our goal is to provide you with quality VBS materials

13

God wants to protect your heart from Satan by keeping you covered

with things that are righteous. If The Breastplate of Righteousness covers

your heart, then you will not let unholy living destroy you. How important it

is for the soldier of God to protect his heart!

Psalm 5:12 says, For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour

wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

Psalm 5:8 says, Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine

enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

Isaiah 54:14 says, In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt

be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not

come near thee.

The Belt of Truth and The Breastplate of Righteousness are very closely

related to each other. They go together. You cannot have one without the

other. If the truth is not in you, you are not righteous in God’s eyes. If you

are righteous, then you will speak the truth. Those two pieces of armour go

hand in hand.

Only those who wear the armour of truth and righteousness are

pleasing to God.

Psalm 15:1-2 says, LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall

dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness,

and speaketh the truth in his heart.

DAY TWO

PRIVATE SNOOZER SCRIPT

Lead children in saying the verse several times. Then a loud snoring begins behind the puppet stage.

Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and

walk ye in all the ways I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. Jeremiah 7:23b

You: Oh, no. I think Private Snoozer is taking another snooze! Let’s wake

him up. (Have children call his name)

Private Snoozer: (Head comes up) Hey! Could you keep it down out there. It

sure is hard to sleep with all that noise!

You: Is this when your SUPPOSED to be sleeping, Private Snoozer?

Private Snoozer: Not exactly.

You: What exactly are you supposed to be doing?

Private Snoozer: Keeping guard. (Comes up)

You: (Amazed) You are supposed to be on guard duty?

Private Snoozer: Yep.

You: But your sleeping instead?

Private Snoozer: I was until you woke me, so I guess you could put it that

way.

You: What way would you put it?

Private Snoozer: I’m conserving energy in case an enemy comes.

You: But if you’re asleep on guard duty, how will you know if an enemy

comes?

15

Private Snoozer: You make a good point.

You: It sounds to me like you aren’t doing what we’ve been learning about in

today’s Bible verse.

Private Snoozer: What’s that? Can you say the verse for me?

You: Sure. Listen carefully and maybe you’ll see what I mean. (Lead children

in verse)

Private Snoozer: That verse didn’t say one thing about not sleeping during

guard duty.

You: No, but it did say that we are supposed to obey God’s commands to us.

Private Snoozer: Why?

You: Because the Bible says that the devil, our enemy, walks about like a

roaring lion just looking for some Christian who he can devour.

Private Snoozer: Really?

You: Yes. Christians need to be wide awake and always obeying God’s

commands.

Private Snoozer: How do you know what God commands?

You: The Bible is the way God talks to us. In it He tells us what to do.

Private Snoozer: I guess I should stay awake during guard duty.

You: Good idea!

Private Snoozer: Gotta get back to my post.

You: Ok, and we’ll say that verse one more time to be sure we remember it!

Good bye Private Snoozer.

SampleBible Lesson

Day Two

Joshua

Shout for the Lord hath given you this city

Study TEXT:

Joshua 1-6

Bible LessonMoses was the leader of the Children

of Israel. When Moses died, God told Joshua that he was to be the leader of the Israelites. God also told Joshua that now was the time to lead the Children of Israel into the land that God had promised to give to them many years before.

Joshua 1:2-3 says, Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

(Choose a boy to be Joshua. Have him come and put on the robe and stand next to you.)

When God chose Joshua to be the leader he told Joshua how to have victory over his enemy. He told Joshua how to be successful. God told Joshua that to be a success he must obey everything God told him to do.

In Joshua 1:8 God said to Joshua, This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

God told Joshua that he was supposed to spend time studying the book of the law, that is God’s Word. God told him to think about it day and night.

But Joshua was told to do more than just study and think about the Word of God, God also told him to do what it said to do. Joshua was supposed to obey the Word of God. If he obeyed the Word of God, then he would be successful.

God tells us the same today. We are to study and obey God’s Word, the Bible, and we will also be successful in our lives.

Joshua had one problem he needed to overcome to gain the promised land. The enemy. The land was filled with wicked people.

Joshua 3:10 tells us, And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hitites, and the Hivites, and the Perizites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites. The land was full of “ites!”

(Select 5 children to come stand in a line. Tell the children they will represent the walls and people of Jericho. Have Rahab, a teen girl Helper, come out and stand behind the wall. The Helper should be dressed in a robe with a red rope around her waist.)

The people of Jericho were very wicked people. They had sinned against God. So God was going to allow the Israelites to destroy their city as a punishment for their sin.

It took courage and faith in God for Joshua to face his enemy. But God had already promised Joshua that He would help him.

Page 17: Vacation Bible School - QualitySpeech.com · 2020-02-05 · 2 Thank you for taking the time to look over this sample lesson. Our goal is to provide you with quality VBS materials

17

In Joshua 1:9 God promises, Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. God was on Joshua’s side.

(Select 6 children to represent the Children of Israel, 3 to represent the priests. Have them stand by Joshua.)

So Joshua sent 2 men into the city of Jericho to spy out the land.

(Send 2 Israelites behind the wall next to Rahab.)

The men went to the house of Rahab. She knew the men of Jericho were searching for the spies. But instead of telling the men where the spies were, she hid the spies. She told the spies why she was hiding them.

In Joshua 2:4, 9,12 it says, And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were. . . . And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. . . . Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have showed you kindness, that ye will also show kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token; And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.

So the spies promised Rahab that because of her belief, God would spare her and her family. They told her to gather the family into her house on the wall and hang the red cord from the window and they would be saved.

(Have Rahab join the wall of children and take the red rope and hang it down in front of her. Have the spies return to Joshua.)

When it came time to head for Jericho, God told Joshua exactly what he was supposed to do. For the first six days

the the children of Israel and the priests were to march around the walls of the Jericho. As they marched all were to be very quiet except for the priests who were supposed to blow the trumpets.

Joshua 6:2-3 says, And the Lord said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.

(Divide the 9 children into 3 rows. The first row represents the Israelites, the 2nd row of 3 represents the Priests, and the 3rd row of 3 represents more Israelites. They are now to march once around the wall and the priests are to pretend to blow the horns. After 1 time around tell the children that once around represents 1 day. They went around 6 days, so they need to go around 5 more times.)

Now the seventh day the Lord told Joshua to do something different. The people were to march around the walls 6 times as the priests blew the trumpets.

(Ask the audience to help Joshua count off the times around. Call out with him, “One, two,” etc. Have the children march around 6 times.)

Now the seventh time around the walls God told the people to do something different again. This time as they marched they were supposed to shout.

Joshua 6:16-17 says, And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priest blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the Lord hath given you the city. And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the Lord: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in her house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

(Have Joshua shout after you: “Shout; for the Lord hath given you the city.” Then tell all the Israelites

Page 18: Vacation Bible School - QualitySpeech.com · 2020-02-05 · 2 Thank you for taking the time to look over this sample lesson. Our goal is to provide you with quality VBS materials

18

and all the children in the audience to shout as they march the seventh time around the wall. Have the children who represent the wall fall down. All except Rahab.)

The walls fell flat! And only Rahab and her family were saved from destruction. Joshua sent an Israelite in to take Rahab’s family out of Jericho.

(Send one of the children over to lead Rahab to join the Israelites.)

God gave Joshua the victory over the city of Jericho. The Israelites burned the ruined city of Jericho as judgement for their sin and wickedness.

(Send all the children to their seats.)

There are many lessons we can learn from the story of Joshua and the walls of Jericho. The Bible tells us the stories from the past so we can learn what God wants us to do today.

First we see that we must Obey Our Commander. God is our Commander. When God spoke to Joshua, Joshua obeyed God. God knew how to win the victory over Joshua’s enemies. Joshua listened to God and won the victory.

We can win victory over our enemy, Satan, by listening to and obeying God. God’s Word, the Bible, tells us how we are supposed to live as Christians. In order to have victory we must do like Joshua did. We must read and obey God’s Word every day. Obedience brings victory.

Secondly we see that belief brings salvation. Rahab was saved from the destruction of her city because she believed God. If she had not believed, she would have been destroyed with the rest of Jericho, but because she believed, she walked away free.

If we believe in God we can be saved from eternal destruction. To really believe we must ask the Lord to forgive our sin and come into our life.

In John 3:16 it tells us, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God loves us so much He sent Jesus Christ to die on the Cross for our sins. If we believe and ask forgiveness for our sin, we do not have to perish or be destroyed, but can have eternal life in Heaven. Would you like to have your sin forgiven and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior?

Fun SheetFront Side

Joshua

“shout for the Lord hath given you the victory.”

God told Joshua to lead the children of Israel to the land He had promised to give them. There were many enemies in the land. God told Joshua to be strong and courageous and to obey His Word.

So Joshua obeyed God. He went to the city of Jericho. He sent 2 men to spy. While the spies were in the city, a woman named Rahab hid the men from harm for she believed their God. She asked the men to save her and her family. Because of her belief, God spared Rahab.

Finally the time came for Joshua and the men of Israel to confront Jericho. For 6 days the men and priests marched one time around the city walls. The priests blew their trumpets.

On the seventh day they marched around the walls 7 times. On the seventh time, Joshua called out, the priests blew the trumpets, and all the men shouted. The walls of Jericho fell and the entire city was destroyed except for Rahab and her family.

“Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.”

Let me tell you about them.

First, let me assure you that everything we produce is fundamental and God-honoring. My husband, Gary, and I are Bob Jones University graduates. We are members of an independent Baptist church. We’ve devoted our lives to serving the Lord by serving fundamental churches. All our Scripture references are KJV. We believe materials for children need to contain solid Bible teaching. You will not find fluff and filler. We pack our materials with Bible truths and principles.

With these materials you get more than just a Bible story. In each lesson we provide clear, written materials to help you present an entire Children’s Church program. Each lesson starts with an introduction that presents the Life Lesson for the week. Then prayer and song time. Next comes the secondary story that emphasizes the Life Lesson. This could be a missionary story, hymn history, object lesson, or puppet script. Then the Bible memory verse. We provide fun games to teach the verse. Next the Bible lesson is presented. This is not a skimpy lesson. It is complete and always teaches an important Bible truth. After the lesson a challenge follows which helps the children to understand practical ways to apply the lesson to their life. There are quiz questions so you can have a Bible quiz time. Attractive reproducible Activity Sheets are provided.

We now include a full-color visual packet with the lessons, but for the most part you will need a storyteller who can take these materials, which are jammed packed with great ideas, and bring them to life by using the effective storytelling techniques which we teach in our FREE Storytelling book. We give lots of tips on holding attention and keeping the story fascinating.

There are 48 non-dated lessons. We also include 4 holiday lessons. In total, you get 52 complete lessons. You will want to use these materials in order as they progress through the entire Bible. Year One begins with Genesis 1:1. Year Two begins where Year One finishes. We currently have four years of Children’s Church materials. In total there will be six years of materials. These materials are geared for children grades 1 through 6.

I would love to have you look at one of our lessons. You can go to our Website and download a lesson or call for your free lesson. Or I would be happy to send you an entire program to look at for 30 days. I know you’ll love what you see.

My name is Wendy Collins and I know you’ll love our Children’s Church materials.
