Newly introduced features

15 New Languages added! My Learning has paid careful attention to additional users in Africa and the Far East, so in this edition (v30) we have added the following languages to use directly within the product: v28: Tajik, Khazak, Malagasy, Marathi, Malay, Chichewa, Sinhala, Slovene, Sesotho, Swahili and Uzbek. v29: Azerbaijani, Armenian, Kannada, Nepali and Punjabi v30: Bosnian, Cebuano, Hausa, Hmong, Haitian, Igbo, Javanese, Khmer, Lao, Maori, Mongolian, Somali, Tagalog, Yoruba, Chinese (Traditional) and Zulu.

Remember that these languages are available in any layout for Students, Teachers and Parents and also operate on any device.

The Task Manager

Many of our users have been using “Homework Manager” for some years now. It’s a comprehensive and powerful method of issuing tracked work to students with the abilities for student feedback. However, sometimes it’s much quicker to just create a simple list of tasks for your students to work through and then monitor where they are. Our new Task Manager has been

created for exactly this purpose, and supports a very simple method for teachers to create a task, add some resources and then assign it to one (or many) groups. An instructional video has been released to accompany this exciting new module.

Terminology Editor

My Learning powers integrated learning systems all over the world, and with so many types of schools, esatblishments and users – we do our best to ensure that our designs and user experience continue to support such a varied audience. We are very pleased to announce the availability of the “Terminology Editor”, which allows the administrator to directly change any term/word within the product.

Example #1: You wish to replace every use of the word “School” with “Academy”. The effect: “School spaces” would become “Academy spaces”. Example #2: You wish to replace every use of the word “Teacher” with “Mentor”. The effect: “Send a message to a Teacher”, would become “Send a message to a Mentor”.

School Advertiser

This is an extemely powerful new feature which allows your administrator to force any content, links or documents directly to the front page of ALL users (including Parents). It’s a brilliant way of communicating raw content, pre-defined “pins” from a pin board or sharing web links and files directly with the entire school. We’ve also added the facility to allow teachers to to post items to the School Advertiser also. Examples uses:

Handing out common shared forms for filling

Posting out school news to the entire audience

Delivering links to important documents

Asking for survey feedback or applications

Widescreen mode As users and establishments constantly upgrade their equipment, the use of wide-screen monitors has finally become standard. So, with the transition from 4:3 format to 16:9 and 16:10 being the accepted standard for internet users My Learning have released support for both formats inside the VLE. Users can simply toggle their display between widescreen and normal on any device. You will find this new tool towards the upper right of your dashboard panel editor, symbolised by an icon as below:

Uptime reporting My Learning Support regularly monitor all our data-centre’s and off-site equipment using their own internal tools. We now publish our (public) server information online so that end-users are able to track the uptime of all our services worldwide. You will see a new icon at the lower right of the login page or can use: http://uptime.mylearningltd.com for a fully navigable report of uptime.

School Space Websites The ability to create mini websites within My Learning is a popular choice for teachers who wish to create a media rich, blended environment for their classrooms and learning spaces. Now, we have provided the same abilities for School Spaces too. This is extremely useful, as administrators (and their delegated editors) can create departmental websites or whole-school shared websites to showcase work, galleries and easily share resources in a website style.

Bulk grading of Homework A popular request from teachers was to allow them to bulk-grade multiple homework submissions from students. Now, teachers can simply multi-select students (or select all) and apply a bulk grade and generic comment for feedback.

New content library items Five additional service providers have been added to the integrated Content Library in this edition. So if your school uses any of the providers below, you’ll have direct integration with their resources. These are “Singup”, “ConnectEd”, “Mindspark”, “Tumblebook”, “Capstone” and “Cambridge University Press”.

Teacher and Classroom performance reports

Another useful addition for this release is the new ability for Administrators and Teachers to visualise homework performance using our new range of performance reports. These new types of reports allow full data drill-down for the user who is logged in. For example, the Administrator can view performance of homework information by viewing all teachers, and then selecting an individual teacher will summarise their homework performance. The reports are clickable, so that users can navigate both up and down different data levels to visualise and understand exactly what is happening at a homework level. (As part of the work towards the next edition of My Learning, the development team will be leveraging the same reporting style for Blogs, Forums, Forms and Tasks)

Open BETA Participation

An invitation to work directly with the team who improve My Learning! As all our customers are aware, the development ethos at My Learning is built very much upon a “Can do” approach. In reality this means that “If our system doesn’t do it, then it soon will”. We have therefore decided to offer select access to our BETA participation server. This gives chosen individuals/specialists the ability to try out our new ideas and technologies before they are released to the public. It can be an invaluable way of suggesting new ideas and improving the product for everyone. If you wish to be part of this geeky crowd of sleepless influencers, then email [email protected] for an instant login and password, and membership to the diminishing world of creativity in education.
