V.18 Conformance testing to the standard
Why it is important
814-16 July 2003 15th Biennial TDI International Conference – Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
ITU-T
Why V.18 Conformance testing is Important
Specified in V.18 Recommendation Appendix 4 Ensures interworking between textphonesSmall volumes and lack of competition between textphone manufacturers means they are not subject to the same market forces to ensure interoperability.
Benefits the deaf and hard of hearingTo maximise the benefits of V.18, all features should be implemented - automoding, all compatibility modes, V.18 universal transfer mode, etc. Verification of various implementations ensures these benefits are gained.

ITU-T
Why V.18 Conformance testing is Important
Reduces complaints about textphones- Tighter control of textphone quality in the market ensures better reliability of textphone operation and reduces failure rate.
Benefits V.18 implementers - Allows verification of the implementation.
