Please remember her family in your prayers as this is their second great loss within 6 months.

Do you consider yourself a person of ʻpotentialʼ, of promise? You are, you know. And how you feel has absolutely nothing to do with it. Actually, others also expect you to fulfill your potential. The alternative to being a person of potential is definitely not one to be pursued, but discovering your potential can be some-what arduous - worth it, but not simple. Then once youʼve discovered where your potential lies, you have the responsibility to fulfill it. And that isnʼt easy either. It seems that one is constantly proving oneself.

Is there an alternative? None that Iʼve found. It is a given. You have potential. Once you discover where your talents and gifts lie, then you have the responsi-bility to act on them. And, youʼll be constantly challenged. It makes life ʻinterestingʼ. You see, the difference in all this is you and your attitude. As long as you donʼt waste your energy on trying to change a given, an immutable, then your entire approach changes. You can tackle whatever problem, issue, opportunity, question, etc., with which you are faced without the baggage of anger or avoidance.

Rest on the scriptures that support you: “I know the plans I have for you. Plans for a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). Future and hope are both positives and can lead you as you fulfill your potential. As for enemies to you and your future - always remember that the Lord said that if He was for you, who could stand against you?

 Be encouraged!

Many congregations enjoy gathering for potluck dinners — meals largely unplanned, when people bring food to share. Usually, the main dishes, salads and desserts balance out. The fun is the variety mix-ing together on a plate and the surprise factor of whatʼs contributed.

Churches and communities — even families — are potlucks of a sort, too. When groups assemble, each person contributes something unique and some-times unexpected. When all is mixed together, the whole is truly greater than the sum of the parts. A beautiful balance often results: One is a good singer, the other writes well; some are strong leaders, others dependable team members; some are traditional, others innovative. Together, itʼs delicious!

Potlucks are sometimes called covered-dish dinners. But donʼt keep your gifts “covered”! Share them because youʼre a valued part of the whole.

SOUP & SANDWICH POTLUCK LUNCH Sunday, March 29

The kitchen and serving areas will be set up, oven on and drinks ready.  We need people to set up and take down tables and chairs.  Each person is responsible to do what needs to be done with their food before church and come to the kitchen to put their food out for serving. Clean up is handled by those who can stay to help. We know that no one can help every time, but if we all do our part it doesn't become a burden for anyone. If you can help with tables and chairs, please let me know. Any questions or comments, talk to Deb Yearous, kitchen coordina-tor.  Thanks!

As I gathered up my walking companions, Alfie and Roxie, the morning was dawning. We stepped outside to heavy, murky fog. But we took that first step out, knowing our routine. Though our vision was very limited, my companions led the way, confident and excited to be out and about. But as I viewed our surroundings, I felt isolated, not knowing what lay beyond the curtain of fog. This reminded me of my spiritual walk with God, and these words from the Psalms came to me:

“My Word (I) will be the light unto your path...and will direct your footsteps…” Psalm 119:105, 133.

God knows what lies ahead, and that He will not leave or forsake us. But we must take that first step into the fog - believing, trusting His guidance.

Time Out by Sharon Meier

Prison time is comprised of a whole lot of waiting. Inmates wait for mail, phone calls, visits, documents. They wait for judges, social workers, officers, teachers, doctors. They wait for job openings, money, verdicts, sentences, surgeries, appointments, visits, transfers. They wait in line for meals, phone time, bathroom, showers, medicines, laundry, canteen, sign-ins, sign-ups, and sign-outs. They stand next to their beds waiting to be counted several times a day. They wait for their family and friends to have time and inclination to send them mail. (In this age of instant messaging, people are less likely to take the time to write a letter anymore.) Mostly they wait for time to pass until their release date shows up on the calendar they had to stand in line to get.

Prison time has been compared to a “time-out corner”. As those of you who have children know, a time-out can be a very effective and valuable discipli-nary tool. The law uses that tool, and so does God. I have heard many affirmations of that through the years in prison ministry. Godʼs time-outs have been recognized by some individuals who have taken advantage of them by getting their high school diplomas, learning how to work and maintain employment, and pursuing a relationship with God and His people. Some have become astute Bible scholars and effective evangelists and encouragers. Some have discovered and developed latent talents and skills which were going to waste out on the streets. Some are doing the best they can to become the men God intended them to be. These are such an inspiration and encouragement to me.

Today, a man came up to me and stated he had just received Christ as His Savior. I warmly congratu-lated him and welcomed him into his new, big family. His time out had become today a place where his eternal destiny was changed. Time outs can seem to be the worst experiences yet yield the best outcomes. That is why I often hear, “Prison was the best thing that ever happened to me. Prison saved my life.” Thatʼs a time out thatʼs worth the wait.

Thinking God’s Thoughts after Him

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the LORD.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts."

Isaiah 55:8,9Our Creator's work reflects some of His

incredible inventive creativity. In Matthew 6:30, Jesus reminds us how God provides for all the needs of all His creatures. Each creature is perfectly suited for its life, even if that requires special creativity from God.

Many of the creatures that live in the deepest and darkest parts of the sea are equipped with lights. One has a very bright headlamp to light its way. Others have lights on their tails, jaws or sides. The light they produce, as the light produced by the firefly, is a cold light. The light is generated when chemicals manufac-tured by the creatures are mixed together.

Or consider the small bird that has an “engine” powerful enough to allow it to fly for 10,000 or more miles. The construction of the birdʼs heart differs from yours and mine in important ways. However, we couldnʼt get by with the birdʼs heart just as it couldnʼt get by with ours.

While it seems strange to think of the penguin as a bird that flies under water, thatʼs exactly what it does. The penguin can reach speeds of 30 miles per hour underwater, as fast as the fastest marine mammal, the dolphin.

All of us would benefit from looking at the crea-tures around us a little more closely. If we do, we will learn a little more about the magnificent creativity of our God. As we learn about their lives and how they are provided for, we will, as one early scientist put it, learn to think Godʼs thoughts about the natural world after Him!
