CODE OF ETHICS
Standard of the Breed:- The Breed Standard is a written criterion developed by the Golden Retriever Club of the United Kingdom and accepted by the ANKC which
describes the perfect Golden Retriever. With this in mid members should breed to conform with the standard, always striving to produce a better dog.
SACA Registration:- Each dog/bitch used for breeding or to be shown or worked must be properly registered with the South Australian Canine Association. All
breeders must conform to the rules and regulations of the SACA and must maintain accurate breeding and litter records.
Hereditary Defects:- Members should endeavour to breed dogs that are free from hereditary defects including hip dysplasia, eye disorders (cataracts, PRA
entropia) bad temperament and structural defects.
General Health:- Members should endeavour to maintain the best possible health and care of all their dogs/bitches, and to have their dogs/bitches regularly
checked by their veterinarian.
Selling Puppies:- Members should not sell or donate puppies to retail, commercial or wholesale outlets, or for raffle prizes etc. They should endeavour to place
their puppies in good homes and not be frightened to carefully ‘vet’ the prospective new owners, and supply them with sufficient information covering diet and
care for the first twelve (12) months.
Honesty in Representation:- Members should represent their dogs/bitches as honestly as possible, and not use misleading or untruthful statements in selling or
advertising, nor denigrate other owners or breeders. Remember that the welfare of the breed comes before personal benefit.
Community Relations:- Members should ensure that their dogs are not a nuisance to their neighbours or the community in general, and that they are properly
supervised and controlled at all times, and are given basic behavioural training. They should also be registered with their local municipal council.

Bits n Pieces
Over the last couple of months we have seen a number
of our club members have a stint or stints in hospital,
namely Josie Eatts, Heather Scholz, Sheila Rammell &
Sheila Hoare. We hope that you are all recovering ladies
and that we’ll see you all up and about soon.
As you will read further on in our newsletter, you will see
that in December we lost esteemed Life Member and
Past President, Barbara Moore. Barbara lost her battle
with Cancer and was laid to rest in December. Barbara is
survived by her daughter & son Elaine & Roger and their
families, her brother Alan and his wife Sally and their
family, and not to forget her friend and partner Anne
Frederick. Our sincere condolences to all.
In January, we all said good-bye to former Committee
Member Lesley List, who decided that she would move
back to the UK to be with her mother. Lesley left
Australia on 22 January and took her 7 furkids with her.
From all reports all the kids travelled well and they are all
reunited. Anyone travelling to the UK in June/July for the
Centenary Celebrations and the Scottish Gathering will
no doubt catch up with Lesley then.

Barbara Diana Moore
24 October 1941—3 December 2012
I met Barbara & John Moore about forty three years ago when they started to show a Golden Retriever female;
Tiptree Kennels was registered and enthusiasts soon formed the Golden Retriever Club.
Barbara devoted herself to all things golden. She was a Life Member of our Club, President for many, many years, a
member of The Adelaide Hills Kennel Club for some years and a member of the South Australian Canine Association
Council for a term. The knowledge she gained from all these sources enable her to start the work required to form a
National Breed Council, of which she was the inaugural President. That enable our Club to hold the first ever Golden
Retriever National Show and Restricted Obedience Trial and the world’s first Golden Retriever Congress.
Barbara’s interest in the breed led to her encouraging people to X-Ray and hip score their breeding stock which has
meant there has been a huge improvement in the problem of Hip Dysplasia in the breed. Also when it became
evident that there were eye problems, the Club, through Barbara’s suggestion started an eye clinic for Golden
Retrievers that soon led to it becoming the annual All Breeds Eye Clinic .
It was through Barabara’s contacts that the Club was able to take on the Community Visitors Scheme which as you all
know has been highly successful and now has a total of 135 volunteers.
As a Gundog Judge, the pinnacle of her judging career would have been her appointment to judge the Golden
Retriever Club of Scotland’s Championship Show in the country of origin.
On behalf of the Golden Retriever Club of Scotland, the Golden Retriever Club of England, the Golden Retriever Club
of New Zealand and the Clubs of all States of Australia plus all Golden friends, many thanks for all you have done.
REST IN PEACE—BARABARA

AUST CH SAVANETA BORN TO BE WILD (AI)
‘Mandy’
21-12-99 – 29-10-12
‘Mandy’ was the first Savaneta Champion and enjoyed a wonderful show career, including BCC & R/U BOB
at the Adelaide Royal. She was a great mother to her only litter and loved spending her days playing with
her daughter Thumper.
A true Golden lady in every way who was loved and is greatly missed by Paula, Sheila & all her ‘Golden’
family.
