Hi Everyone Hopefully you have enjoyed the first week of Autumn term. If your timetable and energy levels permit, you might want to consider volunteering. There are lots of new volunteering opportunities (as well as the regular year round volunteering placements), some of which are briefly detailed below. Just to remind you, this is V-Bite, the weekly Project V e-bulletin and you have received this because at some point in your life you expressed an interest in volunteering with Project V and we have added you to our mailing list. The aim of V-Bite is to keep you up to date with volunteering opportunities (new ones come in every week) and to let you know about anything else related to volunteering that we think you may wish to know about. APPOINTMENTS IN PROJECT V We are currently experiencing a high demand for appointments, as is usual in the Autumn term. Please be patient, don’t worry – you will get to see us, most projects recruit all year round and we have numerous volunteering opportunities. You can book an appointment in person in the Activities Centre or or via e-mail: projectv@sussex.ac.uk The way that we organise our appointments is that we only book appointments from MONDAYS (not before) for appointments on WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY of the following week; and from THURSDAYS (not before), we book appointments for MONDAYS and TUESDAYS. Appointment times are at 11, 12, 2pm and 3pm and you can view appointment availability on our webpages. (This system is in place because past experience has shown us that people often do not turn up to appointments booked up any further in advance.)

COMMUNITY PROJECTS ON CAMPUS! Every now and again we invite projects registered with us onto campus to talk directly to students about their volunteering opportunities. This is a great opportunity for you to find out more about volunteering with these specific projects. This term we have arranged the following: 1) Project Name: The Children’s Society Befriending Service

Volunteering Role: To befriend young disabled people aged 12-18 yrs old, spend time getting to know them and developing a good relationship with them, and help them to identify, share and enjoy new interests.

Time Commitment: A minimum of 2-4 hours per week for a year.

Would suit you if …. Have an interest and enthusiasm for working with young people, would like to develop your skills & experience in supporting people and knowledge of disability issues. If interested, come along to one or both of the following:

a) Information stall Thursday 28th October 11am – 2pm Foyer of Falmer House.

b) Short presentation and Question & Answer session Friday 29th October 11-12am Students’ Union Meeting Room (top floor of South-East corner of Falmer House).

3) Event Helper with Guide Dogs for the Blind Association Volunteer ID number: 540 Under ‘Marketing, PR and Publicity’ in Activity Search Under ‘‘Physical and Sensory Disabilities’’ in Area Search.

4) Media Assistant Volunteer with Guide Dogs for the Blind Association Volunteer ID number: 539 Under ‘Art/Media’ in Activity Search Under ‘‘Physical and Sensory Disabilities’’ in Area Search.

5) Payroll Ambassador Volunteer with Guide Dogs for the Blind Association Volunteer ID number: 538 Under ‘Marketing, PR and Publicity’ in Activity Search Under ‘‘Physical and Sensory Disabilities’’ in Area Search.

6) Leader in Running Fitness with Run In England Volunteer ID number: Under ‘Sport’ in Activity Search Under ‘Sport & Recreation’ in Area Search.

Also, the following project is especially keen to recruit volunteers: CineCity, the annual Brighton Festival that runs from 18th November - 6 December is currently recruiting people to volunteer on the festival. This role would suit you if you have an interest in film, a few hours to spare, would like to take part in a short-term volunteering opportunity and would like to experience a film festival from the inside.
