PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Well it is that time another year is just about over as is my term as Prez, ,it has been a lot of fun and I would like to

thank the board and the membership for their support in helping making it a great year. We had a lot of fun with great

Membership Report: Ian reports one hundred, twenty-eight members.

Membership payments: Lloyd outlined a means whereby the membership fee may be paid via computer directly to

his account. More detailed explanation will be carried in the Newsletter.

Elections: We’re reminded that the next meeting – December – is election night. Nominations have been made for the

following positions. Further nominations may be made up to, and including, at the December meeting.

Recommendation: Vern Kipp brought to our attention Deco Chrome, located Ormstown, Quebec (southeast of

Montreal) as a source of good quality chrome plating at less cost than that offered by platers in Ontario.

Apparel: Glenn Broad reports that, while he has had several requests for apparel, he requires a larger number before

placing an order with the supplier. If any member is looking for a jacket, vest, shirt or cap please contact Glenn.

International Centre flea market, December 6th

: The Region will have two tables at the market this year. One will

serve as our club information centre while the second will offer small auto parts for sale. Members are invited to bring

small automotive parts to the market for sale on this table. Parts have to be priced by the seller. Either the full selling

price or fifty percent of the selling price is to be donated to the Region to offset Region expenses.

Presentation: Chris Willians, Chairman, Specialty Vehicle Association of Ontario (SVAO) brought the work of the

Association to the attention of the membership. He gave a brief history of the Association and its work with the

Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Transport. Chris provided each attending member with a six page

summary of issues the SVAO is presently dealing with, including Administrative Monetary Penalty system (AMP)

which is being considered by the government for implementation. This report is included as Appendix A to these

Minutes.

1936 Ford Roadster by Grant Fleming

One evening in fall 2012, the phone rang. A friend in northern Alberta had decided to sell his '36 Ford roadster,

and he wondered if we might be interested in acquiring the car. Having had the pleasure of participating as co-pilot in

long distance runs to St. George, Utah for the club's 2010 Western National Meet, and Auburn, Indiana for the 2011

Central National Meet, there was no doubt that this was a very roadworthy and dependable early V8. And a very rare

one at that, because the serial number has a C18 prefix indicating it came off Ford of Canada's assembly line at the old

Walkerville Wagon Works site across the river from Detroit. A deal was made the next day which included heated

indoor storage until Spring 2013.

Over the winter, the temptation to drive the roadster back became irresistible. Why not take the long way home,

southbound before heading east, and attend the Early Ford V8 Club's 50th Anniversary party at the Golden Jubilee

Grand National Meet in June at Harrah's Casino on Lake Tahoe?

All of this turned into a three and a half week vacation that included driving full throttle on the salt flats at

Bonneville, seeing in the original So Cal Speed Shop in Sacramento, cruising Route 66 through five states, visiting

National Parks in Colorado and Kentucky, as well as socializing with hundreds of EFV8ers from around the world for

five days in the events at the Tahoe show.

According to MapQuest, the total distance driven to get the roadster to its new home near Ilderton was 5272

miles. Data with respect to this Model 68 Type 710 '36 Ford is as follows:

Early production 1936 roadster with straight door handles and chrome plated top irons

Paint and new top over 60 years ago (circa 1951, when the car was in British Columbia)

Was buying a car with no windows like this a good idea? Not doing so would have meant thinking "doggone it, I could

have had a '36 roadster" for many years to come. It's definitely a lot more fun than my old Retirement Savings Plan

used to be.

Motoring in 2014 and 2015 has all been local excursions. A few improvements have been made: full size

68-1130-C stainless spider hub caps instead of the original "ordinary" 1936 versions; five new Firestone 600-16

Deluxe Champion tires; and a dual reservoir master cylinder for safer braking capacity.

A nice pre-war patina car like this one deserves to be left unrestored, and driven as found without any cosmetic

changes. That's the plan. Grant

THE WOOL STORY We don’t often get a chance for a tour and get to haul something in the back of the truck. The tour was planned

but not the cargo, at least not by me.

We travel sometimes with another old truck and we look good together. Sherm and Caroline drive the tribute to

his Dad’s last meat delivery truck, a 1938 Chevrolet. (I found it for him and it was in northern Ontario, in Timmins.

This trip took us over a hundred miles each way to the town of Blyth, which is home to a tannery and a couple

of leather clothing stores. I knew Sherm was picking up a package for his daughter, but was surprised to see the size of

the two bags of raw wool. It was too much for the Chev so I volunteered to help out. The extra weight in the bed gives

for a smoother ride as well.

We made it back and dodged the scattered rain, as we delivered the cargo to his daughter to finish the wool into

saleable product. The bags weighed 218 and 281 pounds, and my trucks shorter box held the smaller load.

Plus we got so see some of the trees in their fall colours.

V8er in New Zealand This is a story of a boy named Ted. I first met him when he was about 7-10 yrs. old. It was when I was building

a house for his parents. At some stage, his dad had a '35 coupe. When it was done, he/they pushed the old tired girl over

the bank, at the rear of their property. There it sat till later in life, around Ted's early to mid-20's, he decided that he

would like to rescue the coupe. With the aid of a tractor, I imagine, it saw the light again. Ted took sheet metal courses

at night, & when he thought he was ready, took the time to recreate new fenders etc. Eventually the project completed.

I saw the coupe soon after all the work was done & road ready. It was as good as any professional could do.

Ted is now married, has kids (or were) & living about 300 miles north of his home town, he works on V8's, his

& others, at home. Somehow his garage has expanded, & houses his '33 or '34, another '34 sedan & the coupe. He also

developed a modified system for early Fords that have rod or cable brake systems.

I purchased a set for my A, two yrs. ago. The kit allows you to eliminate springs for shoes. It also contains a wedge that

spreads the shoes. The difference was amazing. Lockup on all 4 wheels. No special tools needed. My second wheel

installation took 20 minutes.

I believe at this stage, he has covered all the 30's editions to '39. Ted now has advertising in the N.Z. Ford

newsletter, as Flathead Ted. With luck, I hope to have a photo of the completed '35 & a copy of his business card in

case anyone is interested in the brake conversion, to accompany this story. Russ Trevurza
