Indonesia

Indonesia is a country located in Southeast Asia, with approximately 17,508 islands. It has 34 provinces with over 238 million people and is the world’s fourth most populated country. More than 300 ethnic groups are spread across the islands, each with cultural identity developed over centuries. Being an important trading route since the 7th century, Indonesia was heavily influenced by the Arabic, Chinese and European cultures. In the early time, Hindu and Buddhist kingdoms flourished, before then the Muslim traders came and brought Islam with them. The last, the Europeans also brought their culture, religion, and political models with them. That’s why Indonesia has five main religions Hindu, Buddhist, Islam, Catholics and Christianity. Jakarta is the capital city and the largest city in Indonesia. It’s located on the northwest coast of Java.

BogorBogor is the neighboring city of Jakarta. It’s a very important city because it’s

where our village will be held. The city is located 60 km (approximately two-hour drive) from Jakarta.

The climate is equatorial, and more humid and rainy than many others areas of West Java, because of this weather Bogor has the nickname “Rain City”.

The temperature is around 24 – 30°C.

CampsiteCICO is a place for conservation. This area is usually used for education activities that relate to environment. We’ll have time to learn and contribute more to our mother earth here

• BookletsA booklet is nice way to introduce your delegation and your country! Make sure that you have enough copies for all of the participants, your host families, and some special guests on the open day. Make it interesting!

• Open Day We will be having an Open Day during which CISVers and guests from the local community will be invited to come. We will have a program highlighting our camp activities. We’ll plan this together once the camp starts. Each Delegation will have a small booth where you may exhibit info about yourselves and your home countries. Please bring stuff that you would like to display here. You may want to bring some food or delicacies for everyone to taste. Also bring some small souvenirs that you may want to give away.

• GiftsIt is a tradition for participants to bring small and inexpensivegifts for your home stay families. Also please prepare a specialgift for our exchanging present activity on the New Year’s Eve.

Other Things to Bring• External Hard Disk: We would like each leader to bring an external hard disk.

This will make it easy to transfer all camp photos at the end of camp. This saves us from spending hours to burn the CDs.

• Bottle/Tumbler: We think it would be a great idea if all leaders and delegates could bring a water bottle. Think about green living and sustainable development!

• Flags: Don’t forget to bring your country’s flag. Try and bring a standard sized flag; nothing too big or too small. That way, there will be enough room to display the flags, and no country’s flag will be much bigger than the others.

Please inform the staff if your delegation wishes to attend religious services during in the camp so we can find the nearest possible place of worship or alternatively help setup a silent room in the camp.

You will have twice laundry time for all of your dirty clothes, plus once in

the middle of camp, during the family weekend. You can also have

an extra laundry with the host family during the first family

weekend. For the laundry in the camp, there’s

a laundry service that you need to pay; about 2 Euro per kilo gram.

Make sure that enough clean clothes are packed in your suitcase!

Everyone in CISV need to register themselves on https://www.cisv.org/mycisv/ and claim their participation in a CISV program, in this case, look for “Village”, year 2015 in Indonesia. It might be easier if you get together as a delegation so that your dear beloved leader can help you with this.

Money MattersCURRENCY• Rupiah (Rp) is the official currency of

Indonesia, the currency code for Indonesian Rupiah is IDR.

• 1 USD = 14, 650 (update per 25/09/2015)• 1 EUR = 16, 390 (update per 25/09/2015)

COMPARISON1 Set set meal Big Mac = RP 45,0001 Can of coke = RP 6,0001 Stamp for mail = RP 20,000

ALL of stores and taxi in Indonesia only accept RUPIAH, so better to exchange your money in authorized money changer at the airport or malls.

POCKET AND EMERGENCYMONEY• Since you will only need the pocket

money for the camp shop, excursion, and shopping day so we recommend the amount of pocket money for each delegate is 200 Euro.

• We also recommend for the leaders to bring the emergency money 250 Euro per delegate.

• And don’t forget to bring extra EUR 10 (each) for your coolest camp shirt ever!

Page 13: V-2015-027. Who are coming? Can you guess the countries?

• Voltage: 220 volt • Frequency: 50Hz• Power socket: type C/ F• You can use your electric appliances in Indonesia, if the standard voltage in your

country is in between 220V - 240V (as in the UK, Europe, Australia and most of Asia and Africa). Manufacturers take these small deviations into account. If the standard voltage in your country is in the range of 100V - 127V (as in the US, Canada and most South American countries), you need a power (voltage) converter. To be sure, check the label on the appliance. If it states 'INPUT: 100-240V, 50/60 Hz', it can be used in all countries of the world (like chargers for tablets/laptops, photo cameras, cell phones)
