“Bike helmets must comply with a broad range of requirements: safety of the rider must be guaranteed, even in extreme situations. The helmet must also satisfy high levels of ergonomics and wearing comfort. Materials used must be very durable but also very light. uvex has decades of experience in developing bike sports helmets and remains one of the major innovation drivers in this sector.”

As a global technology leader in the field of sports equipment, uvex sets high safety andquality standards. To achieve these standards all of our products undergo stringent qualitychecks before being introduced to the market. New products must pass the most rigorousexamination before launch. Throughout the entire production process experts from ourin-house test centre conduct material stress tests and many other safety tests. Strap and lock test Tests how the strap and buckle withstand an impact.Weights of 4 – 10 kg are dropped from different heightsonto a pretensioned strap system. Only strap systemswhich are engineered to withstand such stress withoutbeing damaged are integrated into uvex helmets.

Shock absorption testThe main purpose of a bike helmet is to protect the headduring a fall or collision. It does this by greatly absorbingthe force of the impact. The shock absorption test is passedonly when a bike helmet can withstand a fall from a height oftwo meters.

Stability testA bike helmet only performs its task when it stays on the head during a collision. Stability tests conducted in our laboratory ensure a helmet has a secure fit, even when pulled down by a weight of 10 kg.

STORY

uvex History

uvex is a family-owned company, founded in 1926, which has its

headquarters in Germany. At the beginning of the 1930s we

produced our first ski goggles in Fürth, Germany. The name “uvex”

is an acronym for “ultra violet excluded.” Since the 1960s our brand

name has been a worldwide symbol for top quality, Made in Germany.

Today uvex produces a comprehensive collection of ski goggles,

helmets, protectors and sunglasses that offer top performance and

optimal protection for sport, leisure and work.

Development Story

In 2009 uvex brought together a team of freeskiing and freeriding

experts. Working closely with the athletes, we developed a completely

new range. Our inspiration? Creative design, sophisticated product

features and excellent functionality, all combined with our passion.

Rigorous testing and review by riders, engineers and product experts

developed essential features for park and powder performance.

Highly functional product features, creative product design and,

Style. Because the fascination for jumps and tricks often continues

on two wheels in summer, the Core Range jumps into the bike sector.

Athlete feedback is vital to our creative process. Rapid

prototyping with our athletes led the range’s development,

inspiring key features. Test athletes selected favourite elements,

helped make improvements and uvex engineers rolled these into

further developments. What does a rider need to perform? What

does she need when challenged by tough trails, dirt tracks and

jumps? Our Core Riders encounter these situations all the time, so

they are the perfect uvex development team. Our entire uvex team

has developed a product range that is honest and authentic for the

runs. An interactive online portal means you can share and exchange

GPS data and information with your peers. The new G.GL 9 bike

Optimal visual clarity is essential for any sports use. The excellent optical qualities of uvex eyewear are verified following thorough testing, accurate to one hundredth of a diopter, using an optical bench.
