City Provides COVID-19 Funding Assistance to 83 Local Businesses

Eighty-three local businesses were awarded $3,000 as a result of the Small Business Assistance Grant Program created and approved by the Medford City Council.

To date, the City has provided a total of $500,000 in financial assistance to small businesses impacted by COVID-19.

Grants amount were used to assist local businesses with rent or mortgage payments, utility payments or payroll and were allotted to businesses that have been directly affected by the government-ordered

mandatory change in service (per Governor Executive Order dated December 2020): bars, restaurants, breweries, wineries, indoor gyms or fitness establishments.

“We were able to fund all eligible applicants during this round of funding,” said Council President, Tim D’Alessandro. “It’s a small amount of money, but we also wanted to help as many businesses as we could.” The Council approved the use of marijuana tax revenue to fund this program for a second time on December 17, 2020.

As we continue to respond to this rapidly evolving situation, the City recognizes the importance of quickly addressing a number of urgent needs and will continue to work closely with our local businesses and service organizations to reduce regulatory barriers and provide access to resources needed during this unprecedented time.

New Mayor and City Councilors Take Office

Our new Mayor and four Councilors took their Oaths of Office on Thursday, Jan. 7: Mayor Randy Sparacino, Councilors Sarah Spansail (Ward 1) and Chad Miller (Ward 3), and re-elected Councilors Tim D'Alessandro (Ward 2) and Eric Stark (Ward 4).

They join Councilor Alex Poythress (Ward 1), Clay Bearnson (Ward 2), Kevin Stine (Ward 3), and Michael Zarosinski (Ward 4).
