Serial Number Management1 PurposeThis configuration guide provides the information you need to set up the configuration of this building block manually.

If you do not want to configure manually and prefer an automated installation process using BC Sets and other tools, refer to the installation guide of this building block.

2 Preparation

2.1 PrerequisitesBefore you start installing this building block, you must install prerequisite building blocks. For more information, see the building block prerequisite matrix (Prerequisites_Matrix_[xx]_EN_CN.xls; the placeholder [xx] depends on the SAP Best Practices version you use, for example, BL refers to the SAP Best Practices Baseline Package: Prerequisites_Matrix_BL_EN_CN.xls). This document can be found on the SAP Best Practices documentation DVD in the folder ..\BBLibrary\General\.

3 Configuration

3.1 Defining Serial Number Profile

UseThe purpose of this activity is to define the serial number profile.

Procedure1. Access the activity using one of the following navigation options:

2. On the Change View ‘Serial number profile’: Overview, choose New Entries and make the following entries:

4. Choose New Entries and make the following entries:´

5. Save your settings.

3.2 Defining Default Equipment Categories for Serialization

UseIn this step, you define a default equipment category assigned to the equipment category that is used in this process. Default values and other data (screens, and so on) previously defined are included in the category.

Procedure1. Access the activity using the following navigation options:

2. On the Change view ‘Serial number parameters’ Overview screen, select the following entry:

3.3 Settings for Physical Inventory1. Access the activity using the following navigation options:

IMG menu Materials Management Inventory Management and Physical Inventory Physical Inventory Settings for Physical Inventory

2. On the Change view ‘settings for Physical Inventory’ Overview screen, select the entry Plant_1 (1000) and goto Details

3. On the Change view ‘settings for Physical Inventory’ Details screen, make the following entry:

Plant Display Serial Nos Print Serial Numbers

1000 X ++++++++++

4. Go Back.

5. Repeat steps 3-4 with plant Plant_2 (1100).

6. Save your settings.

4 Master Data

4.1 Material Master Settings

UseIn this step, you assign the serial number profile to the material master records.

Procedure1. Access the activity using the following navigation options:

IMG menu Logistics Production Master Data Material Master Material Change Immediately

2. On the Change Material (Initial Screen) screen, make the following entry:

3. Choose Enter.

4. Select View General Plant Data / Storage 2 and choose Enter.

5. Enter the Plant (for example, 1000) and choose Enter.

6. On the Change Material <>(Finished Product) screen, tab Plant data / stor.2 make the following entry:
