For most companies, the last time they reaped significant financial

benefit from a change in their lighting systems was with an upgrade

to more efficient lamps and electronic ballasts. But a lot has

changed since then. Now, in virtually every business, there is an

opportunity to significantly reduce existing lighting costs further by

adopting newly developed energy management control systems

Why Adopt Energy Management Controls Now?It’s The Code

Energy codes are now the law of the land. From theASHRAE/IESNA 90.1 EnergyStandard and IECC, to LEED, CECTitle 24 2005 and more, federaland state codes are underscoringthe need for better energy-savingcontrols for lighting by eithermandating compliance orencouraging it with tax incentives.

Competitive Advantage

Energy costs are rising faster thanever before, making the reductionof energy consumption bybusinesses an increasingly morepowerful competitive advantage. With over 38% of a typical business’ energy bill relatedto lighting, that puts energy saving controls for lighting squarely at the center of any effortto reduce energy expenditures.

EZ-MAX and Z-MAX Relay Systems

Offering Stand-Alone and Fully-Integrated Building-Wide SolutionsThe EZ-MAX stand-alone switched relay control panel providesscheduling of lights in a single area. Multiple network-ready Z-MAXswitched relay control panels are ideal for spaces where centralizedlighting control, programming and monitoring, are required.

What Makes EZ-MAX and Z-MAX Relay Systems Better?

A Single Integrated Cost-Effective SolutionWhere a separate time clock, cabinet, terminalblocks and contactors were used in the past, our EZ-MAX and Z-MAX Relay Control Panels replacethem with a single integrated solution. That meanslabor costs are reduced to just wiring two lug wires inand out…and material costs are lowered as well.

Revolutionary Z-MAX™ Super-Long-Life Relay Circuit UL safety standards require that a relay under load havean electrical life cycle of at least 6,000 switching cycles. The key obstacle to a relay’s longevity is contact pittingdue to the arcing that normally accompanies inrushcurrent during switching. This problem is most prevalentwhen switching modern electronic ballasts that cangenerate a current inrush as high as 29 times theirstandard load. Leviton relays are specifically tested foruse with electronic ballasts.

Leviton’s proprietary Z-MAX circuit, employed onstandard Z-MAX relay cards, offers a unique circuitry that

is capable of switching under full loadconditions at the zero crossing with truezero current. The result is true air-gapswitching with zero current leakage thatcompletely eliminates arc shower pittingat the contacts. This extends the electricalservice life of the Z-MAX standard relay toits mechanical life of 10,000,000 switchingcycles. We’ve tested our relay to 30,000cycles and counting under a full-rated277V continuous electronic fluorescentballast load. Only Leviton offers the Z-MAXcircuit’s superior durability and thedocumented test to prove it. No othermanufacturer even comes close.

Astronomical Time Clock Included At No Additional Cost While other manufacturers offer an astronomical time clock(ATC) as an option in their relay systems, Leviton includes onebuilt right into its Relay System Control module at noadditional cost. The ATC allows the system’s location to bequickly programmed in by entering your locationinformation. ATC events can then be triggered by time ofday or by a time offset from either sunrise or sunset, eliminating the need for additional photocells simply toperform routine dusk-to-dawn switching tasks. Z-MAX is CECTitle 24 compliant, as well.

Tested To Real-World Load Ratings While our competitors onlyprovide a general-purpose rating that meets UL916 EnergyManagement Equipmentstandards, our relays providespecific nameplate UL ratingsbased on testing with each typeof load under real-worldconditions. So, while manymanufacturers claimcompatibility with specific load types, only Leviton assures your complete compliance with thisstandard by providing specific UL Listings as per UL testing requirements for each type of load.

Effortless ProgrammingSay goodbye to programming by coded input. Leviton’s Z-MAX and EZ-MAX Relay Control Panelsmaximize programming flexibility and convenience with easy keypad programming via a brightLCD panel that displays clear on-screen instructions in plain English. Our free, easy-to-use PC-basedVisual Programmer software also allows you to program all of your relay panels on a laptop andthen upload the programming to each relay panel.

Contractor-Friendly WiringAll Leviton relay cabinets offer generous wiringspace and robust, easy-to-wire terminals.Modular relay cards in Z-MAX units come witha single circuit on each card for easy swap-outto simplify maintenance.
