RETENTIONANDGRADUATION PRODUCTION Graduation and Retention (or Triangle) and Time to Degree official reports are produced in the fall semesters, and are obtained fromthe Degree and Factbook (using certified THECB-001 and -004) tables residing in UTA's Data Warehouse (RDS). The Graduation and Retention and the Time to Degree reports followthe methodology for enrollment and degree reporting established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), for the CBM-001 and CBM-009 report. For complete list of CBMdefinitions and methodology, please refer to the most current edition of Public Universities' Reporting Manual, available at the following link: < http://www.txhighereddata.org/index.cfm?objectId=3874B639-B8B5-1533-24CEAC194113B058 > APPROXIMATEAVAILABILITY December 1st SUMMARY Graduation and Retention provides a summarized overviewof the university wide graduation and retention rates for specific fall cohorts. Common cohort groups are defined on the following page, but they are also defined by the number of students entering the university, college/school, department, or area of study that they had when they first started at the University of Texas at Arlington. The retention numbers rate are University-wide and not “major” specific, meaning that for any given cohort group the retention rates are calculated based upon whether they took state funded courses at the same programlevel during subsequent fall sessions. Gradua- tion rates/numbers are cumulative University-wide graduation rates, and are calculated by determining if the students receive a degree at the same cohort level at UTA, regardless of area of study at entrance, during or before subsequent fall sessions. Time To Degree takes the degrees awarded at a particular level (e.g., bachelor’s level) for each year and calculates howlong it took those degreed students to obtain their degree based upon whether they have a new student code in the CBM-001 report at that level. Therefore, it is not an entering cohort as used in graduation and retention calculations, but the time it took the group of graduates with particular degree froma degree academic year to obtain a degree at UTA. At this time, only students reported to the Texas Higher Education Coordination Board (THECB) in the CBM-001 are included in the cohort, retention, graduation, and time to degree numbers and rates. RETENTION AND GRADUATION DEFINITIONS

Most definitions can be found in the Public Universities’ current Reporting Manual (found here: <http://www.txhighereddata.org/index.cfm?objectId=3874B639-B8B5-1533-24CEAC194113B058>).Below are brief descriptions of some of the items. UTA campus community go to: https://uta.datacookbook.com/institution/reports/9956 Cohort Entry Status: The academic program entry level of the student for that period of time. Unless otherwise specified, entry level is regardless of classification level (student) or thenumber of credit hours at the time of entry. First Time in College (FTIC): baDegree seeking undergraduate students who are starting college for the first time post-secondary education. FTIC cohorts includes students who hadpreviously received college credits while attending high school, and therefore do not always have a freshmen classification level. The fall cohorts consist of fall first-time, full-time under-graduates (or freshmen) plus summer first-time students who continue in the fall and are full-time in the fall. The summer students need not be full time in the summer. They are evaluat-ed for full-time status based on their fall enrollment. New Undergraduate Transfers: A student entering the reporting institution for the first time but who is known to have previously attended another postsecondary institution at the samelevel. New Cert, Spec's (excl. DB, Mastr): students enrolled for the first time at UTA graduate certificate or as graduate non-degree-seeking (Spec) programs New Master’s (excl. DB, Cert, Spec): Students enrolled for the first time at UTA in a master’s level program, excluding students at the Master's student classification level enrolled inacademic plans not designated as Master's (i.e., doctoral-bound, certificates, and non-degree-seeking) New Doctoral-Doctoral Bound Students: students enrolled in a doctoral or doctoral-bound academic plans, regardless of student classification level. FTPT – 12-9-9 – Cohort First Session: Full-time or Part-time status of the cohort of students for only their initial fall term at UTA. Full-time is considered 12 credit hours or higher for un-dergraduates and 9 credit hours or higher for all graduate students their initial term here at UTA. For purposes of the "Baccalaureate Graduation Rates -- First-Time-Entering Undergrad-uates", the cohort consists of fall first-time, full-time undergraduates (or freshmen) plus summer first-time students who continue in the fall and are full-time in the fall. The summer stu-dents need not be full time in the summer. They are evaluated for full-time status based on their fall enrollment. Graduation Rate: The percentage of a given college-entering cohort of degree-seeking students who graduate in a specific period of time, normally six years. For purposes of the "Bac-calaureate Graduation Rates -- First-Time-Entering Undergraduates" and "Baccalaureate Graduation Rates -- First-Time-Entering Freshmen," it is the students who graduate with a bac-calaureate degree within six years. Note: graduated numbers and graduation rates for cohorts starting in a particular college and/or department are calculated based on receiving a de-gree at that level in ANY college and/or department at UTA. E.g., a chemistry department doctoral-doctoral bound graduation and retention report will count as degreed an original cohortstudent who received a biology PH.D, even though their degree is not in Chemistry. Retention Rate: In higher education discussions, the rate at which students are retained or graduate, and thereby persist, in higher education, as often measured by the percentage ofstudents who continue in higher education from one year to the succeeding year. The cohort generally consists of students who started in a fall term or in the previous summer term andwho continued in the fall term. Note: retention numbers and rates for cohorts starting in a particular college and/or department are calculated based on enrollment at UTA in ANY aca-demic plan (“major”) at that level. E.g., a Chemistry department doctoral-doctoral bound graduation and retention report will count as retained an original cohort student who switched to abiology doctoral academic plan. Years to Graduation: The average years a cohort of degreed students took to obtain a degree at the same level. TTD can only be calculated for state-reported students who have a newstudent record. Notes: Pertinent caveats to the data may be provided below each report.
