Functionality Gatekeeper web apps are a collection of utilities which allow you to share elements of your

Gatekeeper records to a smartphone or tablet. The web app collection is made up of:

Web Viewer to view cropping details and field records

Web Agronomy to add inspection notes, or create a recommendation

Web Recording to create a record of work done

Web Work Plans to view or complete existing work plans, or create a new work

plan

Sentinel Online to access Sentinel through your mobile device

Access to each utility, as well as functions within them, is controlled by the desktop

Gatekeeper which sends information to the web apps user.

Gatekeeper web apps will operate on all smartphones, tablets and web-enabled devices

which are able to run HTML.5 and are Java enabled.

Data exchange

The process of sending data between

Gatekeeper or web app is known as

‘exchange’. Data exchange is always a two

way process; at the same time as

uploading information to the cloud,

devices are also pulling down any

information they find there.

To exchange data, web apps devices must

have an internet connection, either

through wifi or mobile data (4G/3G).

To allow users to work offline where there is no wifi or data connection, web apps can save

a temporary copy of the data it has after the exchange has taken place. This process is

known as ‘caching’. The web apps user can then access and work with this data while

offline.

When the web apps user has finished using the cached data, they must reconnect to the

internet to upload their work done records.

Until a web apps user has successfully logged out, any information recorded on the

web app is not secured and their data has not been uploaded.

Navigating web apps

When moving between screens in the web app, it is essential to use the web apps

back arrow and not the back arrow of your browser.

Using the browser back arrow will move the web browser off the cached web apps page and

you will not be able to access the data again without an internet connection.

Exporting data

Before exporting data to a device, it is recommended to check the lists which are exported

to make it easier to fill out details. Inactivate any old products or implements which are no

longer required; if necessary, number operators to adjust the order the appear in the drop

down list.

Remember you can specify which accesses each web apps device should have.

Give plans useful references, and consider adding job labels for easier navigation on the

device. Splitting jobs into smaller jobs, or ordering fields and jobs according to how work will

be carried out may be useful.

Completing work on the device

You can complete work in plans that have been exported to the device, or on the fly. Useful

functions within the web apps include:

Load planner

Interrupted field – don’t forget to adjust the area

Option to record product use field by field or for the job as a whole

Split job

Swap or add products – affects the whole job not just one field

Confirming work in Gatekeeper

Work records may still be edited in Gatekeeper if required. Use the tick box to complete the

to-do generated at the same time as you confirm the work done.

Golden rules for successful web apps use

Decide what your data exchange regime will be, and stick to it

It’s better to have more, smaller, plans and jobs, than one giant one

Bookmark the login page but do not create a shortcut

Log in once, and stay logged in until finished

Do not use browser navigation buttons

Remember to edit field size if you use the interrupted option

If two users share work in one field, they must only enter the work done through

one device

Log out at the end of every day or session
