Most functions in this room are controlled by the touchscreen AMX controller. To connect your laptop, there is a VGA connection in the top of the rack, and to connect a portable digital device, there
are RCA connection inputs inside the doors..
The document camera is controlled either at the camera or on the touchscreen, DVD/VHS playback is initiated in the DVD/VHS player in the desk and controlled by the touchscreen AMX controller.
The Sympodium is a tablet style screen with a touch-sensitive stylus that displays the Windows 7 operating system. There is also a standard keyboard and wired mouse.
Routing of the video source and audio volume is controlled by the touchscreen, to the projector of choice - left, right, or center

Touch the corresponding button for the source you would like to display on the screen in front of the room. The selected source is automatically displayed on all screens in the room. If the room is equipped with large
screen monitors they will also display the same source video.
The buttons for VCR/Tuner, DVD and Document Camera will provide on-screen controls when selected.

Touch the Document Camera button. You now have the option of controlling the functions of the Document Camera using the AMX Touchscreen panel or by using the physical buttons on the camera itself.

Connect your laptop to the supplied VGA and audio-mini cable found on the top of the desk. If the laptop does not have a VGA connector, contact Instructional
Technology Services at the technical support number or email listed at the bottom of each page in this document.
Next, touch the “LAPTOP” button on the AMX Touchscreen to display the video and adjust the audio using the “SOURCE VOLUME” touchscreen button referenced
earlier in this document.
CONNECTING A LAPTOP

Locate the combination DVD/VHS player in the desk below the AMX Touchscreen. Press the “POWER” on button. For a DVD, press the tray open button and insert the DVD label side up when the tray slides out, then gently push the tray to close.
For a VHS tape, locate the tape slot on the right side of the player and insert the cassette, label side up.

Follow this procedure if the room has 2 or more projectors:
1. Touch the “Manual Controls” button on the left side of the AMX touchscreen2. Touch the “ON” or “OFF” button for the projector you want on or off

To choose which video source displays on which projector, follow this procedure:
1. Touch the “Video Routing” button on the left side of the AMX touchscreen 2. In the area labeled “Routing Sources” touch the round source button to choose the video
source you wish to display, then3. Touch the rectangular projector button (Left, Right or Center Screen) to send the video
to that projector.

To choose which audio source is amplified in the room, follow this procedure:
1. Touch the “Video Routing” button on the left side of the AMX Touchscreen panel2. In the area labeled “Routing Sources” touch the round source button to choose the
audio source you wish to amplify, then3. Touch the rectangular “Room Sound” button to send the audio to the speakers.

THE “AUX” or auxiliary source can be used to display or listen to portable analog or digital devices, such as an iPod, smartphone or similar device.
The connectors are RCA type for both audio and video. It is likely you will need a proprietary cable to make the appropriate connection from your device to the input
found beneath the desk.
Please contact ITS in advance to see if an adapter cable is available.

After making the necessary connections as noted on the previous page, press the “AUX Video” button to display the video on the screens. Control the room volume using the “System Volume” button on the AMX Touchscreen and/or by adjusting
on the device that has been connected.

At times when it is desirable to “Mute” or show nothing on the screen, locate the“Mute Screen” button in the lower left of the AMX Touchscreen panel and press it
to show a blank screen, and press again to toggle back to the selected source video.

USING THE SYMPODIUM
THERE IS NO PROVISION FOR ALLOWING THE SYMPODIUM TO INTERFACE WITH LAPTOP CONNECTIONS.
Tethered to the Sympodium screen is a stylus pen. Holding the stylus like a pen, bring it to light contact with the surface of the Sympodium monitor.
The mouse cursor will follow the stylus around the screen. Tap the pen on the screen to activate features of the computer operating system or other programs.
Double tapping the stylus has the same effect as a mouse double-click.

Along the top of the Sympodium screen is a row of buttons. The button icons indicate how the stylus will interact with the computer. To draw or write on the surface of the operating system or within programs such as PowerPoint, select/press the button that has a pen icon - the color of the pen icon represents the pen color. Bring the stylus to the screen and make contact while applying pressure and write as you would with a regular pen.
An eraser or left or right click mouse function may also be assigned to the stylus behavior by pressing the appropriate button

There are also 6 function buttons along the bottom of the Sympodium screen. Each button has its own function. For example, the button with a keyboard icon will display an onscreen virtual keyboard when pressed. Short sections of text can then be tapped out using the stylus by touching the appropriate letters.
