A good toyHas a level of complexity to it such that its owner is neither bored nor overwhelmed

In order to be useful, these tipsUse Clip Art (you dont have to draw anything)
Use animation and the Arrange button (to move things and stack them on the screen)
For the ambitious, use a bit of the Basic Shapes tool in Power Point
and 4. Take less than 10 minutes!
In case I forget elsewhereUse a white background when employing these tricksOften Clipart (unless based on a .wmf file) is situated inside a white box, which is distracting when noticed.
Tips and tricks, getting startedThis part of presentation will proceed from easiest to hardestUse the blank template when employing these tricks, with no themes or background colorsTake notes, but Im giving you a copy of what you are seeing hereFigures in motion to tell all/part of a storyGrab student attention betterAllow you to focus on action verbs and directionalityPutting figures in front of and behind movement creates opportunityYou can add artifacts easily via .wmf filesAdding sound#1 Simulating meandering, strolling, changing ones mindTwo steps

Adding sound effectsTo add a general sound:
To add a sound to a specific object:Click on object, select Insert menu to action, click Play sound
Places to get soundsClip art, select audio under Selected media types
I also enjoy using freesound.org a great deal
Once you find a sound you like, you must save it on to your pc and then browse to it. Allow me to demonstrate to those interested during lab time.
SummaryTell stories, let the kids use your pres. like an action figure or doll houseAnimation has its own menuThe Arrange menu lets you change how things are stacked
If you get stuck or have an Idea that you want help with, email [email protected]
Lab timeIf you have a lap top, receive and copy the Powerpoint folder from the jump drive and pass on to the next personOr, if you have internet, go to www.GregSanchezConsulting.com/powerpoint
Activities
Continued to repeat or retime an animation, click on the object then.
Here I have used rectangles and ovals to help create props. On the next slide are all of the pieces without ovals and rectangles, and I have scrambled the figures from front to back. Use Shapes (Insert Shapes), animation, and the Order Objects tools (Click Home Arrange Bring to front, Send to Back, etc.) to practice these skills
Using Entrance and ExitDr. Mrs. Vandertramp verbs example:
In closingA simple animation focuses attention on what you wish to have described better than a movie or even a pictureBy using animation with props, you have created a playground for you and your studentsI want to see what you are doing and help you to do it better. Please contact me at [email protected] and I will send files back and forth with you as much as I can. I want to build relationships with teachers who want to leverage Powerpoint for all it can do.I have more advanced versions of this workshop available that focus on teacher collaboration. Please see me if youd like to know more.
