The construction of my magazine advert & how I used media technologies

I used Adobe InDesign to construct my magazine advert. This programme allowed me to arrange the text and images effectively, and place them exactly how I wanted them. This meant that I could make my magazine advert appeal to my target audience.

To select the photo I wanted to use for my magazine advert clicked ‘file’ and then clicked ‘place’ and selected the image file I wanted. I then double clicked on the image so that the red box appeared around it. By pressing shift and dragging one of the corners of the image, this enlarged it, while keeping the proportions right. I cropped the image using the blue box and dragging the sides up towards the image so that it fitted the rectangle of the poster

I then added the name of the artist at the top of the page. I chose the font ‘Ebrima’ as it is simple and has a modern look to it when I changed all the letters to capitals. This goes well with the dance genre and therefore will draw the audiences attention to the poster.

I tried putting the artists name in bold, however I feel that this detracts from the image slightly, therefore I decided to keep the font regular.

I underlined the artists name, by selecting the rectangular box tool which allowed me to drag the shape in to a longer and thinner rectangle. I placed this under the artists name, then clicked on the colour tab on the side and filled it in white ,which was very quick and easy to find.

I selected a textbox from the toolbar on the left and then typed the artists name into it. To create an outline on the text I clicked on the colour tab and then selected the outline box and selected the colour I wanted.

For the title I wanted it to spread across the top of the page (my inspiration for this was the Beyonce digipak) Adobe in design allowed me to spread the lettering further apart so I could achieve this

Adobe InDesign allowed me to easily experiment with the positioning of the text, without ruining the arrangement of the other components on the page. E.G. I tried putting ‘OUTSIDE’ on the artists bandana to try and make it stand out more. However feel that this covered too much of the image and therefore wasn’t as effective as having a blue outline.

I decided to position the album title in a more central position, because I think this gives more of an impact on the audience and they won’t be able to miss it.

I then added the ‘featuring How deep is your love text’. Firstly, I kept it in lower case because I thought it would b e too much with the rest of the text on the page being in capitals

However, after playing around with the text I decided to put it in capitals so it fitted better with the rest of my advert and made it flow and stand out more to the audience.

I then added the date (in bold) as I thought it was very important to make it clear when this album is being released

• This programme allowed me to learn about the importance of the positioning of the text on the background of the image.

• Adobe InDesign made it easy for me to play around with the text and image to ensure that I created an advert that was fit for my target audience and looked professional.

• I learnt how to copy and paste images from the internet on to the programme-which I find harder to do on Photoshop. However Adobe InDesign made this easier for me

• This allowed me to add a professional and finished look to my work. E.G. by copying and pasting a record label and iTunes logo

• One of the issues I had with this programme was that when I tried to move the text, often the image would move instead, which put everything out of place

• To overcome this I just had to make sure that every time I wanted to move text I had to double click on it so that the image behind it stayed in place

• Another issue I faced was that the tool bar at the top wasn’t always clear when I wanted to try and edit the text, as it can be quite complex

• To overcome this I had to do some research on Google and watch videos on YouTube on how to use various aspects of the programme in order to edit my work more efficiently. This helped me learn more about the programme and feel more confident while editing my work on it.

Exporting my work from Adobe InDesign

I found that Adobe InDesign made exporting my work straightforward. All I had to do was click on ‘File’ and then ‘Export’

I then selected the file I wanted to save my work in, and my ancillary texts were exported as PDF copies, which I could then upload to Blogger.
