It was created in 2006.

More than 800 million active users

More than 50% of active users log on to Facebook in any given day

Average user has 130 friends.

People spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook.

The number of Facebook members who declare themselves as faculty and staff is

over 297,000.

This quantity has increased noticeably, reaching 500% in one year alone.

Haifaa Alhazmi 1.Recently,Facebook page has been developed swiftly and become more popular site as a platform of communication and interactive dissection2.The British council states that “69% of learners around the world said that they learned most effectively when socialising informally’’.3.This result indicates that a lot of students learn more effectively when they share their knowledge with the outside environment.4.Therefore, many educational institutions have been attracted to use Facebook to enhance learning process because it provides a new form of learning or teaching instead of the traditional classroom and that can meet individual interest by enabling users to join groups..

Haifaa Alhazmi It has three development stages:1.Choosing participants for the intervention who are at the same level of English (high school students), because I want them to feel confident to discuss with each other; it can also help me to evaluate their achievements easily during this study.2.To have a better idea of what context would be useful in this project, informal conversations were conducted with my participants; I also had a look at the English language curriculum for the first semester of second grade high school.3.Create a new group in my Facebook account and then invite participants and their parents to take part in this project..

Haifaa Alhazmi This project started on 30/11/2011 There was no specific time for sessions due to the different time zones between the UK and Saudi Arabia ,and I am studying as a full–time student.Hence, I prepared the session the day before to be ready to be used from the participations the next day.I was online at specific times for observing participants ,giving some feedback and to help them and solve out any technology problems that might face them during the experiment..

Haifaa Alhazmi After finishing the experiments, the participants and their parents were interviewed to determine the effectiveness of the project.

Most of the participants believed that they learned a lot from this experience, because they could find a platform to practise their learning in a real world.Their parents said that they found their children demonstrated a desire to study by using this kind of technology. They mentioned that their children could share their knowledge with their peers very easily, without the need to make a call or other kind of communication.

Haifaa Alhazmi.Some of my students were responded in Arabic language Some of them tried to avoid to be involved in any discussion. There were some delays in responding due to they are full time students and have many exams during my project. Speaking skill could not be taught in this project because I could not find a way to teach it by using Facebook site.

Haifaa Alhazmi The objectives of this study are twofold: to assess the affect of using Facebook in engaging students to learn English at home, and to examine the students’ motivation in the use of the social network for educational purpose. Many students’ soft skills have been improved through this project, such as independent study and confidence. However, there are some limitations and difficulties of this project that need to be considered carefully. Overall, I can conclude that using technology for teaching and learning purposes is very useful for teachers and students, and educators are required to improve this teaching way to increase the benefits and eliminate the weaknesses.
