First night trial of nuclear-capable surface-to-surface short-range ballistic

Prithvi-II missile was successfully conducted from a defence facility off

Odisha coast.

Enlighten about Prithvi – II

It is India’s first developed indigenously developed surface-to-surface

strategic missile.

It is indigenously developed by DRDO under India’s prestigious

Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP).

It is capable of attacking targets at range of 350 km.

It is capable of carrying 500 to 1,000 kg of nuclear as well as

conventional warheads and is thrusted by liquid propulsion twin engines.

First International Solar Alliance Summit -2018

To be hosted by India – in March 2018

The first International Solar Alliance (ISA) summit is going to be hoste

by India in March 2018 in New Delhi.

It will be hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by

leaders from over 50 member countries.

The leaders will include French President Emmanuel Macron, United

Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Venezuelan President

Nicolas Maduro and Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid.

Two new programmes — on scaling solar e-mobility and storage, and on

rooftop solar will be inaugurated in this summit

Enlighten about International Solar Alliance (ISA)

ISA has been launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French

President Francois Hollande in November 2015 in Paris on sidelines of

COP-21 of UN Climate Conference.

Its secretariat is located in campus of National Institute of Solar Energy

(NISE) in Gurgaon, Haryana.

It aims at addressing obstacles to deployment at scale of solar energy

through better harmonization and aggregation of demand from solar rich

countries by bringing standardization in solar technologies and fostering

research and development.

Through this alliance, 121 countries that fall within tropics i.e. between

Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn have been invited to make

collaborative efforts to harness solar energy to generate the electricity.

Avani Chaturvedi

First woman fighter pilot to fly fighter jet

For the first time Indian woman has flown a fighter aircraft solo.

It demonstrates IAF’s enduring commitment to ‘Nari Shakti’.

Three women officers Avani Chaturvedi, Bhawna Kanth and Mohana

Sing were selected to be fighter pilots in June 2016 when IAF had agreed

to induct women as fighter pilots on “an experimental basis” for an initial

period of five years.

Before 2016, women made up just 2.5% of India’s armed forces, working

in mainly non-combat roles.

Ministry of Textiles Five-Day Handicraft and Gifts Fair

The 45th edition of IHGF-Delhi Fair has been inaugurated at India Expo

Centre & Mart, Greater Noida.

There are 70 lakh artisans from various craft clusters who are engaged in

production of handicrafts are the backbone of the handicrafts sector.

Enlighten about Ambiente-2018

The fair Ambiente is an international consumer goods trade fair, which

takes place once a year in Frankfurt.

It is open to trade visitors only and offers products in the areas of Dining

- Giving - Living.

The Ambiente is the most important show of its kind in Europe and

presents itself as a central platform for the order business of the upcoming

season.

Here the leading international exhibitors present themselves and show

their products and innovations from the fields of table, kitchen,

household, gifts, home, furnishing, decoration.

The products displayed by more than 400 handicrafts exporters were no

less than the best in the world

Messe Frankfurt has declared India as a partner country for Ambiente -

2019.

Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation

Two-day national consultative workshop on

Solid and Liquid Resource Management

When -

on 22nd February and 23rd February 2018 in the national capital.

Organising body -

The workshop was organized in association with the Tata Trusts,

Topics covering -

Ranging from Gobar-dhan, Biodegradable Waste Management,

Menstrual Health Management, Faecal Sludge Management, Plastics and

Liquid Waste Management.

Shift in sanitation policy -

The workshop marked a shift in national sanitation policy from “Solid

and Liquid Waste Management” to “Solid and Liquid Resource

Management”, i.e. treating waste as a resource.

Way forward -

Behavior change begins at home, and by adopting the 4Rs (refuse,

reduce, reuse, recycle), each one of us can help realize our collective

dream of a Swachh Bharat.”

44th edition of Khajuraho dance festival

Enlighten About Khajuraho Dance Festival

dance performances are held in an open-air auditorium, usually in front

of the Chitragupta Temple dedicated to the Sun God and the

Vishwanatha Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Classical dances, including Kathak, Odissi, Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi,

Kathakali and Mohiniattam will be performed

Enlighten About Khajuraho temples

These temples were built by the Chandella ruler between AD 900 and

1130.

The Khajuraho group of temples were built together but were dedicated

to two religions, Hinduism and Jainism

Index/Report Corruption Perception Index

released by Transparency International

India has been ranked at 81st place out of 180 countries on a ‘Corruption

Perception Index’

worse than - China and Bhutan but better than - Pakistan and

Bangladesh

New Zealand and Denmark top the list, while Syria, South Sudan and

Somalia are at the bottom

The index ranks the countries by their perceived levels of public sector

corruption according to experts and businesspeople

It uses a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has constituted an expert committee

under the chairmanship of Y H Malegam.
