Vocabulary
• Reconstruction: (1865-1877) The period after the Civil War during which the eleven Confederate states that had seceded were controlled by the federal government to establish political, social, and economic fairness. During Reconstruction, African Americans were given land, voting rights, and held public office.
Essential Understandings
• The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America address the issues of slavery and guarantee equal protection under the law for all citizens.
