use and effective development depends on

efficient involvement of user in its development

• Different activities user performs in PM

Process are-

– Cooperative relationship with developer

– Active role in planning & project evaluation

– Provide the promised resources & inputs

– Return documents within specified period

– Participation in steering committee meetings

– Insist on getting project progress reports

During Project users plays roles in

• Project Initiation

• Construction & Acceptance

• Quality assurance

• System implementation

Roles played by user in Project Initiation

• Start with positive approach

• Understand own & developers role

• Provide information for development of project

plan

• Deciding own commitment in project plan

• Participation in steering committee

• Finalizing project goals, scope & acceptance

criteria

• Finalizing development standards, project

reporting procedure & their frequency

Roles played by user in Requirement Specification

• Provide details of current system

• Specify problem faced

• Specify expectations from proposed system

like deliverables & acceptance criteria's

• Specify constraints

• Understand SRS & Sign the specification

document

• Provide enough time to developers

• Active participation in activities like

prototyping, RAD, JAD (Joint App Dev)

Construction & Acceptance

• Agree on design before coding begins by considering

performance, size & manual procedures

• Participation in reviews & get confirmed that

developer understood your expectations

• Sign-off phase-end documents

• Execute plan for acceptance testing by providing

acceptance test data, resources for acceptance

testing, verify accuracy, performance & manual

procedures

• Accept software documentation

• Sign-off acceptance document

• Understand how project quality is assured

• Understand his role in quality assurance

• Agree on quality plans like what to assure?

How to assure

• Provide necessary resources for assuring

quality

• Acively participation in all reviews

Implementation

• Evolve implementation strategy (Big bank,

parallel, serial etc)

• Acquire resources

• Train personnel

• Convert master file data

• Perform parallel run & put system in

operation

Roles played by user in Team Management • Product management: identifies & sets priorities for

the product/services being deployed

• Program management: decisions necessary to release right product at right time

• Development: builds a product/service that meets the specification & customer expectations

• Testing: ensures all issues are known before the release of the product/services

• User education: design, develops & publishes user performance solutions, online help & training systems

• Logistic management: ensures smooth rollout, installation and migration to the operations & support groups
