DBVUJPO;
TO PREVENT POSSIBLE INJURY OR DEATH: DO NOT go underneath thevehicle with the engine running.
DO NOT attempt to work on an installed Power Take-Off with theengine running.
DO NOT operate the controls of the Power Take-Off or other drivenequipment from underneath the vehicle with the engine running.
DO NOT operate the controls of the Power Take-Off or other drivenequipment in any position that could result in getting caught in themoving machinery.
DBVUJPO;
Make sure to block any moving or raised device that may injure a personworking on or under the truck. A lever or its linkage may be accidentallymoved causing movement of the device which could cause injury to aperson near the device.
JNQPSUBOU;
Because most of our Bezares Power Take-Offs and P.T.O. drive lines aresold through distributors, the product applications and the resultingdegree of exposure to danger of the operators are beyond theknowledge and controls of PTO LTD.
Therefore, the proper installation of the P.T.O. and its associatedequipment, and the decisions of whether to install guards and/orwarning signs shall be the responsibility of the designers or installers.

Since it is our major objective to show you how to get additional andmore profitable miles from truck, tractor and trailer components, wewant to provide you with information on the installation of 6 and 8 BoltBezares Power Take-Offs.
We all realize that an inadequate transmission will overwork any PowerTake-Off in a very short period of time. In addition, a mismatchedtransmission / P.T.O. combination can result in unsatisfactoryperformance of the equipment right from the start.

Before you order new trucks be sure that you´re getting the righttransmission/ P.T.O. combination. It is of vital importance for efficientperformance to have adequate power. To help you select the propertype, size and design of P.T.O. it is advisable to discuss your specificrequirements with a Bezares P.T.O. specialist. They know their productsand Power Take-Offs. They can inform you about everything you needto know about power, at the right time, before you specify components.

Here are some of the questions that are relevant to the Proper Selectionsof a Transmission mounted Power Take-Offs.
1. What is the make and model of your transmission?2. Which P.T.O. opening will be used?3. What accessory is to be driven?4. How much horsepower is required to drive the accessory?5. What is the required rotation of the P.T.O.?6. What is the required P.T.O. output shaft speed as a percent of engine
speed?.7. What is the required method of shifting the P.T.O., mechanical or
pneumatic?.
Once all of the answer to these questions have been determined, atransmission mounted P.T.O. can be selected to meet the horsepower,speed and rotation that you require.
Having made the selection of a P.T.O., you are ready to start theinstallation.

1.- Drain the oil fromthe transmission and theP.T.O. aperture cover plate.
2.- Discard the coverplate and cover plate gasketthen clean the aperture padusing a putty knife or wire brush.
NOTE: Stuff a rag in the apertureopening to prevent dirt fromentering the transmission whileyou are cleaning it.
3.-Using your hand, rock theP.T.O. driver gear in thetransmission (left) and thedriven gear in theP.T.O. assembly(right). Rocking thegearsprovides twoimportantfactors:A.- It shows youthe amount ofbacklash that hasbeen designedinto each unit.
B.- It is helpful inestablishing theproper backlashwhen installingthe P.T.O.
4.-Install the proper studs(furnished with P.T.O.) in theP.T.O. aperture pad using a stud driver.Studs may have either interference fit
threaqs (plain) orpreappliedlocking/sealingcompound.
6
Npvoujoh!Q/U/P/!up!usbotnjttjpo(for 6 or 8 bolt Applications)
5.- Where holes aretapped through thetransmission case, use studswith preapplied lockingsealing compound or threadsealer to prevent leaks.
6.- Tighten studs securelyand torque to 17-19 Ft. lbs. (2.35-2.63 kg meters) for 6 bolt and19-21 Ft. Lbs. (2.63-2.90 kg.meters) for 8 bolt.
7.- Place the correctnumber of gasket over studs. Donot use paste between gasketsbecause you may want to add orsubtract gasket to obtain properbacklash.- When mounting a P.T.O. usegaskets between all mountingsurfaces.- Do not stack more than 3gaskets together.- Usually one thick gaskets 0.020”(0.50 mm) will be required.- Remember the lubricant in theP.T.O. Therefore. At least onegaskets must always be used oneither side f filler blocks, adapterassemblies or adapter plates.More gaskets may be requiredwhen establishing properbacklash.
DBVUJPO
Overtightening of studs may damage stud and / ortransmission threads.
8.-Secure P.T.O. to the transmission .Gaskets are used as a guardagainst leaks under cap screwhead.NOTE: If holes inthe P.T.O. apertureare not drilledthrough, discard thegaskets and replacethem with lockwashers.
8.-
9.-Fasten the P.T.O. to thetransmission torquing 6 bolt to30-35 Ft. Lbs. (4.14-4.84 kg. Meters) and 8bolt to 45-50 Ft. Lbs. (6.22-6.91 kg.Meters).

TO CHECK FOR PROPER BACKLASH ON P.T.O’s WITH SHIFT COVER.
-1. Remove the P.T.O. shift housing and/or inspection plate.
-2. Mount the dial indicator so that it registers movement of the input
gear (driven gear) of the P.T.O.
NOTE: See drawing for proper location of dial indicator contact point.
(Two common methods of dial indicators shown.)
-3. Hold the P.T.O. driver gear in transmission with a screwdriver or bar
and rock the P.T.O. input gear (driven gear) back and forth with your
hand.
Note the total movement on the dial indicator.

- 4. Establish backlash at0.006” - 0.012” (0.15mm-0.30mm) by addingor subtracting gaskets.
General rule - A Bezares0.010” gaskets willchange backlash approx.0.006”. A 0.020” gasketschanges backlash approx.0.012”.

This vehicle is equipped with a Power Take-off. Shut engine off beforeworking on Power Take-Off or getting below vehicle. Consult operatinginstructions before using.
POWER TAKE-OFF OPERATION VEHICLE STATIONARY.
-1. Mechanical Transmission.
A.- A power take-off is, and should be, operated as an integral part
of the main transmission.
B.- Before shifting the power take-off into or our of gear,
disengage the clutch and wait for transmission or P.T.O. gears to
stop rotating.
-2. Automatic transmission with manual shift P.T.O. (Includes air shift).On automatic transmissions, the gears in the transmission turn when thetransmission is in neutral, therefore, gear clashing will ocurr if the powertake-off is shifted into gear at this time.With converter driven gear:
A.- Shift transmission lever into any of drive positions. (This will stoptransmission gear from turning).
B.- Shift power take-off into gear.C.- Shift transmission into neutral. (This will start transmission gears
turning.)D.- Shift P.T.O. into gear before starting engine.
This procedure should eliminate gear clash.
-3. Automatic transmission with power shift P.T.O’sEngage P.T.O. with engine at idle speed. Power shift P.T.O.´s: engine mustbe at idle when P.T.O. is engaged. See transmission manufacture´sinstructions for special procedures.
DBVUJPO;
JNQPSUBOU;
Failures to follow proper shifting or operating sequences will result inpremature P.T.O. failure with possible damage to other equipment.
