You do not require a Plug’n’Print card for thisink film (= chip card with information on the ink film ca-pacity).Telephone Book

In the telephone book of your machine, you can save en-tries with multiple numbers and collect multiple entriesinto groups. You can assign various ring tones to the en-tries.Short Dial

You can assign short dial numbers to frequently dialled tel-ephone numbers. You can load these numbers quicklywith the short dial button and the number buttons.You can send fax messages in various resolutions to one ormore recipients or a group. You can also poll faxes and of-fer documents for polling.Fax Templates

Five fax templates, which you can use, are stored in yourdevice. With these templates you can quickly create, for ex-ample, a short fax note or an invitation.Select the resolution for text and photo in order to copydocuments with your machine. You can also create multi-ple copies.If you want, your device can print Sudoku puzzles in fourdifferent difficulty levels with solution.We hope you enjoy your machine and its many functions!

Separate the paper sheets by fanning them out, thenalign them by tapping edge of the stack lightlyagainst a flat surface. This will prevent several sheetsof paper from being drawn in all at once.

If you connect your device as extension to a tele-phone system, you must set it for working as an ex-tension (also see Chapter "Telephone connectionsand additional devices, page 20).

Check whether the power type of your machine (in-dicated on the type plate) matches the power typeavailable at the setup location.

Always set the country in which you are operatingthe machine. Otherwise, your machine is not adapt-ed to the telephone network. If your country is notincluded in the list, you must select a different settingand use the correct telephone cable for the country.Consult your retailer.

You can move the cursor with [. You can deleteindividual characters with C.

You can restart the initial installation process anytime. Press i and 2.

General Safety Infor-mationYour machine has been tested in conformity with stand-ards EN 60950-1 and IEC 60950-1 and should only beoperated with telephone networks and power systems thatmeet these standards. The machine was built exclusivelyfor use in the indicated sales region.Do not make any changes or settings that are not describedin this user manual.

Setting Up the MachineThe machine should rest securely on a stabile, flat surface.If the machine should fall, it can be damaged or cause in-jury to people, especially small children. The distance be-tween the machine and other devices or objects must be atleast 15 centimetres; this also applies to the use of addition-al cordless telephones. Do not place the machine in the vi-cinity of radios or televisions. Position all cables in such away that no one will stumble on them, thus avoiding pos-sible injuries to persons or damage to the machine itself.Lock the cover of the machine completely into place whenopening the machine. You could be injured if the coverfalls while you are working on the machine.Protect the machine against direct sunlight, heat, largetemperature fluctuations and moisture. Do not place themachine in the vicinity of heaters or air conditioners. Ob-serve the information on temperature and humidity in thetechnical data.The machine must have sufficient ventilation and may notbe covered. Do not put your machine in closed cabinets orboxes. Do not place the machine on soft surfaces such astablecloths or carpets and do not cover the ventilation slits.Otherwise, the machine can overheat and catch on fire.In the event that the machine becomes too hot, or if yousee smoke coming from the device, you must immediatelypull the power cable out of the power socket. Have yourmachine examined by trained professionals at a technicalservice location. To prevent the spread of fire, open flamesshould be kept away from the machine.Do not plug in the machine in moist rooms. Never touchthe power plug, power connection or the telephone socketwith wet hands.Do not allow liquids to enter into the machine. Discon-nect the machine from the power socket if liquids or for-eign objects have entered the machine and have your ma-chine examined by trained professionals at a technical serv-ice location.Do not allow children to handle the machine without su-pervision. The packing materials should be kept out of thehands of children.Caution, metallic objects may be retained if placed near oron the handset receiver.

Power SupplyCheck whether the power type of your machine (indicatedon the type plate) matches the power type available at thesetup location. Use only the power and telephones cablessupplied.Set up your machine so that the power socket is easily ac-cessible. The machine does not have an on/off button. Inan emergency, disconnect your machine from the powersupply by pulling the power plug.Never touch the power or telephone cable if the insulationis damaged.Disconnect your machine from the power and telephonenetworks during an electrical storm. If this is not possible,do not use the machine during an electrical storm.Before cleaning the surface of your machine, disconnect itfrom the power and telephone networks. Never use liquid,gaseous or easily flammable cleansers (sprays, abrasives,polishes, alcohol).Only clean the display with a dry, soft cloth. If the displaybreaks, a mildly corrosive liquid may escape. Avoid all con-tact with your skin and eyes.In the event of a power failure, your machine will not func-tion; saved data is retained.

RepairsShould disruptions occur, follow the instructions on thedisplay and on the error report.Do not make any repairs to the machine yourself. Improp-er maintenance can result in injuries or damage to the ma-chine. Only have your device repaired by an authorisedservice centre.Do not remove the type plate from your machine; thiswould void the warranty.

Consumable MaterialsUse only original consumable materials. These are availa-ble from a specialised retailer or through our order service.Other consumable materials could damage the machine orshorten its service life.Dispose of old consumable materials according to thewaste regulations of your country.

Making Telephone Calls on the MachineDial the desired telephone number. There are multipleways to do this. Then lift up the handset.Dialling Directly

CLIP Prerequisite

Chain DiallingYou can combine and edit manually entered digits andsaved entries, before the dialling process starts. If you havesaved, for example, the telephone number prefix of an in-expensive telephone service provider (call-by-call) as a tel-ephone book entry, select this entry and manually enterthe subsequent telephone number or select another savedentry.

Inserting a Dialling PauseIt can be necessary to insert a dialling pause into the tele-phone number, for instance for the outside line accesscode, for an extension or sub-address or in a long distancenumber. Press R. The second part of the number is onlydialled once the connection with the main number hasbeen established.

Telephone Book of the MachineTelephone Book

In the telephone book of your machine, you can save en-tries with multiple numbers and collect multiple entriesinto groups. You can assign various ring tones to the en-tries. Observe the information in the technical data.Cursor navigation 1

Saving Entries1 Press and hold ma (at least two seconds).

2 Enter the name. You can enter characters using the nu-meric keys (see button labels) Press 0 to enter specialcharacters. Press the respective key several times untilthe desired character or special character appears on thedisplay.

3 Confirm using OK.4 Using [, select the category for which you would like

to enter a number: CATEGORY: HOME, CATEGO-

RY: WORK, CATEGORY: MOBILE or CATEGO-

RY: FAX.5 Confirm using OK.6 Enter the telephone number.7 Confirm using OK.8 You can assign a ring tone to the number. Using the

numeric keys from 0 to 9, select a ringer tone. Using[ you can set the volume.

9 Confirm using OK. The entry is saved.

Press i and 3 to print an overview of the tele-phone book functions.

You can also lift up the receiver first, then dial anumber. The dialling process starts immediately.

You can also load telephone book entries bypressing OK, 11 and OK.

You can save an entry multiple times with thesame name but in a different category. In the tel-ephone book, the first letter of the category ap-pears after the entry.

You can also load short dial entries by holding the re-spective number button pressed (for at least two sec-onds).

You can also load the redial list by pressing OK,22 and OK.

You can also load the caller list by pressing OK,21 and OK.

For this function to work, the caller line identifica-tion (CLIP) must be activated for your telephoneconnection (country and network dependent). Thenumber and name will not be shown if the caller sup-presses his number.

You can move the cursor using [. Use C to deleteindividual digits. Press STOP to close the menu andto return to the starting mode.

You can also load the function by pressing OK,12 and OK.

You can combine several telephone book entries into agroup. A message is sent to all members of this group insuccession.

display the members of the group, delete the group orsend a fax to the group.

4 Use [ to select ADD MEMBER?.5 Use [ to select the entry you would like to add to the

group.6 Confirm with OK.7 Repeat steps 4 to 6 to add additional entries to the

group.8 Press STOP to end the input.

Short DialShort Dial

You can assign short dial numbers to frequently dialled tel-ephone numbers. You can load these numbers quicklywith the short dial button and the number buttons.

Assigning or Changing a Short Dial Entry1 Hold Ý pressed (for at least two seconds).

2 Use [ or the respective number button to select theshort dial number you would like to assign or change.

3 Confirm with OK.4 Use [ to select the telephone book entry you would

like to assign as a short dial entry.5 Confirm with OK.

Deleting a Short Dial EntryDeleting a Short Dial Entry

1 Press Ý.

2 Use [ or the respective number button to select theentry you would like to delete.

3 Press C.4 Confirm the deletion with OK.


If you select a short dial number that is already as-signed, the entry is overwritten.

This function not only deletes the short dial entry, italso deletes the entire entry from the telephone book.Overwrite the short dial entry if you would like tochange the assignment.

If you have received additional messages, first se-lect the missed calls using [ and confirm withOK.

Your machine displays the name with which youhave saved the number in the telephone book. Thenumber and name will not be shown if the caller sup-presses his number.

weight. You can insert up to 10 documents at a time.Cancel Transmission

Sending a Fax1 Insert the documents face up into the document feeder.

The top most document will be fed in first.

2 Then configure the desired resolution. You can choosebetween RESOL.: STANDARD (for documentswithout special features), RESOL.: FINE (for textswith small print or drawings) and RESOL.: PHOTO

(for photos). Press ã. The configured resolution ap-pears on the display. Press ã again to change the reso-lution.

3 Dial the desired telephone number. There are multipleways to do this.

Do not insert any documents into the machine that...... are wet, have been edited with correction fluid, aresoiled or have a coated surface.... are written on with a soft pencil, with paint, chalkor charcoal.... originate from newspapers or magazines (printingink).... are held together with office or notebook staples orwith tape or glue.... are pasted with note papers.... are creased, crumpled or torn.

You can adjust the default contrast (see also sec-tion Settings, page 17).

If the subscriber is busy, the device dials the numberagain after some time. Press STOP, in order to can-cel the transmission process. After the transmission,the machine prints out a transmission report depend-ing on the settings.

You can also load telephone book entries bypressing OK, 11 and OK.

You can save an entry multiple times with thesame name but in a different category. In the tel-ephone book, the first letter of the category ap-pears after the entry.

You can also load short dial entries by holding the re-spective number button pressed (for at least two sec-onds).

You can also load the redial list by pressing OK,22 and OK.

You can also load the caller list by pressing OK,21 and OK.

For this function to work, the caller line identifica-tion (CLIP) must be activated for your telephoneconnection (country and network dependent). Thenumber and name will not be shown if the caller sup-presses his number.

Using Fax TemplatesFax Templates

Five fax templates, which you can use, are stored in yourdevice. With these templates you can quickly create, for ex-ample, a short fax note or an invitation.1 Press OK, 43 and OK.2 Using [ select the template you would like to print.3 Confirm using OK. The device prints the template.4 Fill the template and send it to the desired recipient per

fax.

If your machine cannot reach a recipient, the faxmessage is sent to the other recipients. After the ma-chine has called all recipients, it once again dials thenumbers that previously could not be reached.

Check whether you have inserted and clamped in thepaper correctly. The lever on the right next to the pa-per feed mechanism must be pushed back.

If there are problems with printing out saved faxmessages, a service code is available (see also sectionService, page 25).

If you would like to poll fax messages from an ex-tension number or a sub-address, add this afterthe telephone number. After entry, press thenumber R then enter the extension number orsub-address. The second part of the number isonly dialled once the connection with the mainnumber has been established.

You must check the time and date after a short powerfailure. Confirm using OK.

Always set the country in which you are operatingthe machine. Otherwise, your machine is not adapt-ed to the telephone network. If your country is notincluded in the list, you must select a different settingand use the correct telephone cable for the country.Consult your retailer.

When you select a new country, all settings are resetto the factory defaults for that country. Saved data isretained. Check the number entered for the header.

The changed settings are stored as new default set-tings. If you select a special function for a one-timeprocess, take care to restore the default settings orfactory settings after that.

Manually Receiving FaxesSelect manual reception under number of rings of the faxswitch. The device will not receive faxes on its own. Youcan start fax reception manually, by pressing START.This setting is useful, when you want to receive faxes via amodem connected to a computer.

Private branch exchanges (PABX) are typical in many of-fices and private households. You must dial an outside lineaccess code in order to establish a connection with the pub-lic telephone network (PSTN) from an extension.External Device Not Extension

ISDN ConnectionDetails for ISDN connections can be found in the instruc-tions provided with the terminal adapter or the dial-uprouter.

Voice MailboxYou cannot simultaneously use the answering machine fa-cility of your telephone service provider (= voice-mail box)and receive faxes on your devices. Get the mail-box func-tion for your telephone connection deactivated or set thenumber of rings for the fax switch to lower than 5 on yourdevice (also see Chapter Setting the Fax Switch, Page 18).When the fax switch accepts the call, the mail-box of theservice provider does not step in. Enquire with your tele-phone company.

Connecting Additional DevicesAdditional Devices

You can operate additional devices on a telephone line,such as cordless telephones, answering machines, modemsor charge counters.

Starting Fax ReceptionIf you pick up on an additional device and hear that youare receiving a fax message (whistle or silence), you canstart the fax reception by pressing *5 on the additionaltelephone or the START button on the machine.

An additional telephone connected to the machineon a telephone socket is not considered an extension.

Only use pulse dialling if tone dialling is not yetactivated for your telephone line.

In rare cases, the outside line access code may be adifferent number or a two-digit number. For oldertelephone systems, the outside line access code can beR (= Flash). Press R to enter this outside line accesscode. Should a connection to the public telephonenetwork not be possible, contact the provider of yourtelephone system.

We recommend direct connection to the machinebecause this allows the fax switch to function opti-mally and to control the additional devices.

If you have multiple telephone sockets for the sametelephone line, the machine must be connected tothe first telephone socket.

Taking Over the LineIf you pick up on an additional telephone and the machinecontinues to ring or attempts to receive a fax, you can dis-connect the machine from the line. Press ** on the ad-ditional telephone.

Changing CodesEasylink Codes

Introduction to plug'n'print card

For receiving or copying documents, an ink film must beinserted in your device. Your device is delivered with an al-ready inserted free ink film for a few test pages. For thisfilm, you do not require any Plug’n’Print card (= chip cardwith information regarding ink film capacity). For everynext film that you insert, you must load the capacity mem-ory with the included Plug’n’Print card.1 Remove the paper from the paper feeder and take the

paper tray out of the device.2 Open the device by lifting the panel using grip in the

centre and folding it down.

3 Grip the rear ink film roll at both the sides and place itnext to the front ink film roll.

4 Remove both the rolls from the device. The used inkfilm cannot be reused.

5 Pull the used Plug’n’Print card out of the plug socketon the left hand side next to the ink film tray. ThePlug’n’Print card cannot be reused.

6 Carefully remove the rubber bands from the new inkfilm. Make sure that the film is not damaged!

7 Place the larger roll with the ink film in the rear ink filmtray. The blue gear wheel must be on the right handside.

Should disruptions occur, follow the instructions onthe display and on the error report.

Use only original consumable materials. These areavailable from a specialised retailer or through ourorder service. Other consumable materials can causedamage to the machine.

Follow the instructions on the packaging of the con-sumable materials.

Lock the cover of the machine completely intoplace when opening the machine. You could beinjured if the cover falls while you are working onthe machine.

The messages and copies you have printed outcan be read from used ink films. Consider dataprotection issues when disposing of used inkfilms.

8 Place the smaller roll without film in the front tray. Theblue gear wheel must be on the right hand side and thepin must be inserted in the depression on the left handside.

9 Break the chip card from the Plug’n’Print card. Insertthe chip card in the plug socket on the left hand sidenext to the ink film tray.

10 Turn the blue gear wheel forward to tension the inkfilm. The ink film must not have any creases.

11 Close the device. Insert the paper tray in the openingprovided for it behind the paper feeder. Insert paperagain.

Unplug the machine from the power socket beforecleaning it. Use a soft, lint-free cloth. Never use liq-uid or easily flammable cleansers (sprays, abrasives,polishes, alcohol, etc.). Do not allow any moisture toreach the interior of the machine.

Special fax cleaning sheets are available as accessoriesfrom our call centre. Insert a sheet into the documentfeeder. Press STOP; the page is ejected. Repeat thisprocess at a few times.

4 Lightly wipe the upper side of the scanner glass (A) andthe lower side of the document feeder/scanner film (=white plastic plate) (B) with a cloth.

5 Clean the feed roller (A) and the underside of the sup-port pad of the feeder roller (B) with a soft, lint-freecloth moistened with cleaning alcohol (96 percent).Rotate the feed roller; You must clean the entire roller.

Using Service CodesThe service codes delete all the changed settings and yourdevice is reset to factory settings. It may be possible that thedevice with the changed settings reacts differently than ex-pected.Using the Service Code

Power CyclingIf a problem occurs that cannot be corrected with the in-structions in this user manual (see also the help below), fol-low the steps given here.1 Pull out the power plug.2 Wait at least ten seconds, then plug the power plug

back into the socket.3 If the error occurs again, please contact our technical

customer service or your retailer. Follow the instruc-tions on the display and on the error report.

Only use the service code if this is absolutely neces-sary. Many service codes also delete saved messagesand telephone book entries.

If you have entered the incorrect code, you cancancel the entry with SURE: NO.

Faxes sent are of poor quality. Change the resolution from RESOL.: STANDARD toRESOL.: FINE or RESOL.: PHOTO.Change the contrast.Clean the scanner and the document feed slot.Test the device by making a copy of the document. If thedevice is in order, the fax machine of the recipient is defec-tive.

The device produces black lines when sending or printing. Clean the scanner and the document feed slot.

Copy is blank. Insert the documents face up into the document feeder.

Printing is interrupted. Paper or document jam, no paper or ink film. Follow theinstructions on the display and in the error report.There could be a small pause after printing several pages.The device continues printing automatically.

No printing Check if you have inserted clamped paper correctly. Thelever on the right hand side next to the paper feeder mustbe folded backwards.

Documents are not properly fed. Clean the scanner and the document feed slot.

Problems with the connection

The device rings once, remains silent for a short while andstarts ringing again.

This is absolutely normal. The fax switch checks the call af-ter the first ring. If it is a voice call, the device continues toring.

No dial tone Check the installation of the device. Connect the telephonecable to the socket marked LINE. Insert the telephone pluginto your telephone connection socket.

Fax transmissions are constantly interrupted. Try to send the fax manually: Press ß and dial the number.If the recipient is using an answering machine, wait untilyou hear a whistling tone. Press START.It is possible that the recipient's machine is not ready to re-ceive.

You hear a whistling tone or silence in the handset. The call is a fax: Press START on the device In addition,press *5 on the telephone. Hang up.

No fax reception or a short fax audio signal as message onthe answering machine

Using function 51, set the number of rings for the faxswitch to 4 and the total number or the number of rings forthe answering machine (model dependent) to 5 (see Page18).You cannot simultaneously use the answering machine fa-cility of your telephone service provider (= voice-mail box)and receive faxes on your devices(see page 20).

SAGEM SA is now the Euro-pean Number 1 in fax and offers a complete range of faxterminals with Internet access and SMS function, multi-functional terminals and servers covering the needs of allits customers—from home-users to multinational organi-sations.In order to apply the guarantee, you should contact yourdealer. Proof of purchase will be required. Should mal-functioning arise, the dealer will advise you what to do.If you bought your equipment from SAGEM directly, thefollowing shall apply:A SAGEM undertakes to remedy by repair, free of chargefor labour and replacement parts, any defects in the equip-ment during a period of twelve (12) months from the dateof original delivery of the Equipment, where those defectsare a result of faulty workmanship. During this twelvemonth guarantee period, the defective equipment will berepaired free of charge; the customer must however firstcontact the SAGEM After Sales Department, the phonenumber of which can be found on the delivery slip or inthe user manual. Unless the customer has concluded withSAGEM a maintenance contract in respect of the equip-ment which specifically provides for repairs to be carriedout at the customer’s premises, the repairs will not be car-ried out on the equipment at the customer’s premises. Thefollowing sentence applies to purchases of equipment forthe customer’s trade, business or profession. Except as oth-erwise expressly provided in this Document and to the ex-tent permitted by law, SAGEM makes no representationsor warranties, express or implied, statutory or otherwise,and to such extent, all terms and conditions implied by laware hereby excluded. This guarantee does not affect theCustomer’s statutory rights.B Exclusions From GuaranteeSAGEM shall have no liability under the guarantee in re-spect of:• damage, defects breakdown or malfunction due to:- failure to properly follow the installation process and in-structions for use; or- an external cause to the equipment (including but notlimited to, lightening, fire, shock or water damage of anynature); or- modifications made without the written approval ofSAGEM SA; or- a failure or neglect to maintain the equipment or inap-propriate maintenance; or- unsuitable operating conditions, particularly of tempera-ture and humidity; or- repair or maintenance of the equipment by persons notauthorised by SAGEM; or• wear and tear from normal daily use of the equipmentand its accessories• damage due to insufficient or bad packaging of equip-ment when returned to SAGEM

• supply of new versions of software• work on any equipment or software modified or addedwithout the prior written consent of SAGEM• malfunctions not resulting from the Equipment or fromsoftware installed in user workstations for the purpose ofuse of the equipment• communication problems related to an unsuitable envi-ronment, including:- problems related to access and/or connection to the In-ternet such as interruptions by access networks or malfunc-tion of the line used by the subscriber or his correspondent- transmission faults (for example poor geographical cover-age by radio transmitters, interference or poor line quality)- the local network fault (wiring, servers, workstations) orthe failure of the transmission network• the normal servicing (as defined in the user guide sup-plied with the equipment) as well as malfunctioning due toservicing not being carried out, servicing costs are in anyevent always borne by the customer.C In the cases set forth in § B as well as after expiry of thetwelve month guarantee period, the customer must askSAGEM for an estimate, and he/she must accept the esti-mate and agree to pay the charges mentioned in it beforereturning the equipment to SAGEM.
