transform a medium voltage into a lower voltage

Operate the transformer only with the values described in chapter

"Description of the Transformer" in section “Technical Data”.

Operate the transformer only in undamaged condition.

The transformer may only be operated by people who fulfil the

requirements. The requirements for personnel are described in chapter

“Safety“ in section “Training and Qualification“.

The user manual is part of the transformer. The transformer is intended to

be used within the scope of this user manual only. The usage of the

transformer not described in this user manual may result in severe

personal injury or death, or in property damage.

Any other or additional use or deviation from the permissible operating

values is considered to be contrary to the intended use of the product.

2.2 User Obligations

The user is responsible for the determination of responsibility,

accountability and supervision of the personnel.

The user must

− ensure that every person operating this transformer has read and

understood these instructions

− inform every person working on the transformer about the enforced

regulations of work, safety and accident prevention

− supply every person working on the transformer with the required

personal protective equipment and instruct these people that

wearing the PPE is mandatory

accordingly

2.4 Safety Instructions

High Voltage in the Working Area

The transformer is under high voltage when in operation. The transformer

can be under high voltage when in the connected state and not grounded

on the high voltage side. This can cause serious personal injury or death.

Switch off the high voltage source and secure against restarting

prior to any works on the transformer, such as installation,

maintenance and rectification of malfunctions. See chapter

“Installation” in section “Working in a Voltage-free Condition“.

Constructional Modifications

Constructional modifications can affect the functionality and operational

safety of the transformer. This can cause serious personal injury or death.

Adjacent equipment can be damaged as well.

Never perform constructional modifications on the transformer

Deviating Conditions in Operation

Deviating operational conditions can impair the functionality and

operational safety of the transformer. This can cause serious personal

injury or death.

Operate only with the data stated in chapter “Description of the

Transformer" in sections "Technical Data" and "Ambient Conditions”

Page 9: User manual GBEAN 12/024/0; GBEA 36 Gr. 1

Transport and Assembly

Loads can swivel and fall during lifting operations. Likewise, insufficiently

supported and fixed transformers can fall or tilt, especially at assembly on

a ceiling and/or wall. This can cause serious personal injury or death.

Carry out the transport properly. See chapter “Installation“ in

section “Transport of the Transformer“

Always fixate the transformer. See chapter "Installation“ in section

"Mounting of the Transformer“

Incorrect Connection with the high voltage terminal

Not suitable cable plugs and non-elastic connection with the high voltage

terminal can impair the functionality and operational safety of the

transformer. This can cause severe personal injury or death.

Never apply incorrect forces on the primary terminal, this applies

also in the event of switching and thermal expansion

Always use elastic connection and support the connector cable

Only use matching plugs. See chapter „Installation“ in section „High

Voltage Connection“

Short circuit at Secondary Terminals

Short circuited secondary terminals overload the windings thermally and

the transformer will be destroyed within a short time. This can cause

serious personal injury or death.

Never short circuit secondary terminals. See chapter “Installation“

in section “Secondary Connection“ and “Secondary Connector of

the Earth-fault Winding (Optional)“

High Voltage on the Earthed Terminal of the Primary Winding

The non-grounded earthed terminal of the primary winding is under high

voltage.

Never remove the connection between earthed terminal of the

primary winding and the base plate. See chapter “Installation” in

section “Ground-sided Terminal of the Primary Winding“.

Always ground the earthed terminal of the primary winding.

Always ground the base plate or the housing

Damage on the Transformer

Damage can impair the functionality and operational safety of the

transformer. This can cause severe personal injury or death.

Take damaged transformers out of service immediately.

Contact the manufacturer if necessary (see chapter

“Service/Contact“)

Improper Auxiliary Agents

Auxiliary agents that do not meet the requirements of the manufacturer

may impair the operational safety of the transformer and can cause

accidents. This can cause serious personal injury or death.

Use auxiliary agents only that meet the requirements

Safe Handling of Auxiliary Agents

Depending on the chemical composition, the used auxiliary agents can

pose hazards. This may cause personal injury.

Adhere to the safety data sheets of the auxiliary agents. Observe

all information and regulations given in the safety data sheet

Operation only after proper Start-up

Without proper start-up in accordance with this manual, the operational

safety of the transformer is not guaranteed. This can cause accidents and

may result in serious personal injury or death.

► Use transformer only after proper start-up. See chapter “Start-up“

Technically Faultless Condition of the Transformer

Improper handling or maintenance can affect the operational safety of the

transformer. This can cause accidents and may result in serious personal

injury or death.

Carry out works on the transformer only according to the

instructions

2.5 Other Requirements
