Overview of Integration Utility
Cisco Prime Integration Utility is a utility that integrates Cisco Prime applications with third party Network Management Systems (NMS).

This utility adds Cisco device icons to topology maps, allows Cisco MIB browsing from NMS, and sets up menu items on the NMS to launch remotely installed Cisco Prime applications, such as CiscoView and Device Center.

This chapter contains:

Product OverviewIntegration Utility allows you to easily integrate the Cisco devices and Cisco Prime applications into NMS.

The features of Integration Utility are:

• Common installation mechanism for Network Management Integration Data Bundle (NMIDB) into NMS.

• Ability to integrate Cisco Prime applications, icons, MIBs, and traps to third party NMS.

• Support for new NMS without any change in the application.

• Support for new devices from NMS to launch Cisco Prime applications.

Integrating Cisco Prime Applications With Third Party PlatformsYou can integrate Cisco Prime applications, icons, MIBs, and traps with third party SNMP management platforms. Depending on the specific platform, Integration Utility allows you to:

• Launch Cisco Prime applications.

• Browse Cisco MIBs.

• Integrate traps.

• Add Cisco device icons to NMS topology maps.

This utility also allows remote integration between Cisco Prime applications residing on one server and an SNMP management platform residing on another server.

Chapter 1 Overview of Integration Utility Integrating Cisco Prime Applications With Third Party Platforms

Note You must log in as root on UNIX or have administrator privileges on Windows to run Integration Utility.

Integration Utility performs the following tasks:

• Downloads the NMIDB from Cisco.com, from a local file, or through FTP from another system.

When you add device support, a new NMIDB is often downloaded. Integration Utility detects a later version of NMIDB and prompts you to install the later version.

• Prompts for additional configuration information to register each application.

• Gets the adapter script from a local file or through FTP from another system.

• Runs the adapter script to integrate the applications, icons, MIBs, and traps into the NMS.

You can select an adapter script from the list of adapters in Integration Utility. You can also use an adapter script provided by the NMS vendor.

You must install Integration Utility on the same machine on which the target NMS is installed. The two integration scenarios are:

• NMS and Cisco Prime on Same Machine, page 1-2

• NMS and Cisco Prime on Different Machines, page 1-2

NMS and Cisco Prime on Same MachineIn this case, Integration Utility runs as part of a single CiscoView install. Since Integration Utility can get all the information it needs from the Cisco Prime Server, it integrates the applications, device icons, MIBs, and traps into the NMS automatically.

Integration Utility is installed even if the NMS is not present. Later, when the NMS is installed, select Change Integration Options to integrate applications or device information into the NMS.

When you add device support from Cisco.com, you automatically receive a new NMIDB. If necessary, you can download and integrate this NMIDB into your NMS.

NMS and Cisco Prime on Different MachinesIf you install NMS and Integration Utility on one machine and Cisco Prime on another, Integration Utility guides you to integrate the Cisco Prime applications and device information into the SNMP management platform. During this process, Integration Utility prompts you to enter any necessary information.

You can launch the Change Integration Options to display application-specific information installed on a remote system and proceed with the integration. This integrates the Cisco Prime application residing on a remote system with the NMS.

You can download a new NMIDB from the NMS, if required. If an NMIDB is already integrated with the NMS, select Update Cisco Device Support from the NMS menu to download the new NMIDB.

If you entered the correct Cisco.com user name and password (while installing Integration Utility or when using Change Integration Options), the utility automatically retrieves and integrates the NMIDB into your NMS.

This chapter describes the tasks you must perform to install and uninstall Cisco Prime Integration Utility.

Software RequirementsYou must run one of these operating systems:

On Unix:

• Solaris 10

On Windows:

• Windows 2008 Standard Edition Release 1 with SP1 and SP2

• Windows 2008 Enterprise Edition Release 1 with SP1 and SP2

• Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition

• Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition with SP1

Note Only 64-bit Operating Systems are supported on the above versions of Windows operating system.

Hardware Requirements• Memory (RAM): Minimum of 4 GB memory and 8 GB swap is required. If the swap is less than 8

GB, the installation aborts.

• Space required: 4096MB (This includes the space required to extract the NMIDB package)

Installing Integration UtilityThe Cisco Prime Integration Utility 1.11 is part of the LMS 4.2 product DVD. You can install Integration Utility 1.11 as a standlone product on your system. Run the setup.exe file from SystemDrive:\disk1\install\NMIM\setup.exe.

Installation Notes

Before you begin installing Integration Utility, ensure that you:

• Have administrator privileges to install the product.

• Install the Integration Utility on the same machine as your third-party NMS.

Installation Instructions

You can install the Integration Utility using Custom mode of installation.

For more information on Integration Utility installation, see Installing and Migrating to Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2.

User Inputs During Installation

At the end of Custom installation of Integration Utility, you are prompted to integrate the utility with the NMS.

You can select either:

• Integrate Now

Or

• Integrate Later

You are prompted to enter the following information if you choose the Integrate Now option:

• NM adapter to use for integration.

• Cisco Prime Server details to reach CiscoView from NMS map (standalone only)

– Cisco Prime Server name

– Port

NetView 7.1.4, 7.1.5 Windows:





Note Only 64-bit Operating Systems are supported on the above platforms.

Only remote integration is supported for the above platforms.

Starting Integration UtilityYou must start Integration Utility to:

• Download and upgrade to a new NMIDB version available on Cisco.com.

• Change your Cisco Prime application server location.

• Register a new application.

• Change the NMS with which you want to integrate your Cisco Prime applications.

• Get a new vendor adapter script.

You must log in as root on UNIX or have administrator privileges on Windows to run Integration Utility.

Chapter 3 Using Integration Utility Starting Integration Utility

Starting Integration Utility on UNIXTo start Integration Utility on UNIX:

Step 1 Open a connection to the system on which Integration utility is installed using Telnet.

Step 2 Log in as root.

Step 3 Navigate to the root_ installation_directory/bin directory.

If you plan to start the utility without using any options, set your Display environment variable.

Step 4 Enter the following (including any options from Table 3-1) on the command line:

./nmic.sh

Starting Integration Utility on WindowsFrom a Windows platform, you can start Integration Utility from either:

• Start menu

Or

• Command line

Table 3-1 Command Line Options

Command Line Option Description

-h or -help Displays the command line options and usage.

-v Displays the Integration Utility version and the NMIDB version.

-q Runs in quiet mode without showing the GUI screens. Uses the NMIDB that was installed earlier and runs the adapter script that was configured earlier.

-u Removes the integration information from the Network Management System. The menu entries for Cisco applications are removed but the MIBs and icons are not deleted.

-q -cco Gets the latest NMIDB from Cisco.com and runs the adapter script that was configured earlier.

-q -file Installs the NMIDB in quiet mode using the NMIDB file. Enter the full directory path to the NMIDB file.

For example:

• On Windows, enter:

-q -file C:\temp\nmidb.xxx

where xxx is the NMIDB version.

• On UNIX, enter:

-q -file /tmp/nmidb.xxx

To start Integration Utility from the Start menu:

Step 1 Click Start on your Windows desktop.

Step 2 Select Programs > Cisco Prime > Change Integration Options.

To start Integration Utility from the command line:

Step 1 Navigate to the root_install_directory\bin directory.

Step 2 Enter the following (including any options from Table 3-1) on the command line:

nmic.exe

Starting Integration Utility on NMSIf Integration Utility is integrated with the NMS, select Change Integration Options from the appropriate top-level menu.

Downloading Data BundleA Network Management Integration Data Bundle (NMIDB) contains all the information required to add Cisco devices to a Network Management System (NMS).

The NMIDB version shipped with LAN Management Solution 3.0 is 1.085.

The bundle is updated frequently, and you must install the latest version to use your NMS with Cisco Prime applications.

When you upgrade device support, a new NMIDB is often downloaded. If Integration Utility detects a later version of the NMIDB, it prompts you to install it.

You can also manually retrieve the latest NMIDB from a file on your local machine, from Cisco.com, or from another system.

If Integration Utility has already been integrated into your NMS, you can download the data bundle from the Update Cisco Device Support menu.

Select Update Cisco Device Support from the appropriate top-level menu. The location of the menu depends on where CiscoView applications have been installed on your system. The new NMIDB is automatically retrieved and integrated into the NMS.

You must log in as root on UNIX or have administrator privileges on Windows to run Integration Utility.

To download the data bundle:

Step 1 Start Integration Utility.

The utility checks for a new (later version) NMIDB downloaded by the Software Center.

If it finds a later NMIDB, a dialog box appears, prompting you to update to the later version.

• Click Yes if you want to install the new NMIDB.

• Click No if you do not want to use the new NMIDB downloaded by the Software Center.

If you do not install the new NMIDB, you are prompted to install it each time you start Integration Utility until a later version is installed.

If a new NMIDB was not detected or you clicked No, select one of these options from Table 3-2.

Step 2 Click Get NMIDB.

The NMIDB is installed if it is a version later than the version of the NMIDB already installed on your system.

Step 3 Click Next.

If you made changes to any fields in this dialog box, you are prompted to confirm whether you want to get the NMIDB from the new location.

• Click Yes to install the new NMIDB.

The NMIDB is installed if it is a version later than the version of the NMIDB already installed on your system.

• Click No to cancel your changes.

• Enter the full directory path and the NMIDB file name. For example:

– On Windows, enter:

C:\temp\nmidb.xxx


– On UNIX, enter:

/tmp/nmidb.xxx

• Click Browse to search for the NMIDB file.

Cisco.com Install the NMIDB from Cisco.com.

Enter your Cisco.com username and password.

You must have Cisco.com login privileges.

If you do not have a user account and password on Cisco.com, contact your channel partner or enter a request on the web site (http://www.cisco.com).

FTP Install the NMIDB from another system.

Enter the device login information:

• System name

• User name

• User password

• Full directory path and the NMIDB file name (for example, /tmp/nmidb.xxx).

The Application Registration dialog box appears. See Integrating Cisco Prime Applications to NMS for integration details.

Integrating Cisco Prime Applications to NMSUse the Application Integration dialog box to select the applications you want to integrate into NMS. Integrating an application allows you to launch that application from an icon or menu in your NMS.

Before you register applications with the NMS, you must complete downloading the data bundle for this device.

If you do not download the data bundle, Integration utility uses the already installed NMIDB.

To integrate Cisco Prime applications to your NMS:

Step 1 Select an application tab.

There is one tab for each available application. If you are updating NMIDB for new device support only and do not need to make any application registration changes, skip the following steps and click Next.

To designate a default application that launches from the NMS, check the Set as default application to be launched from NMS.

Some Network Management System adapters do not support this option.

Step 2 Double-click the device icon on the NMS map after integration completes.

Step 3 Change the registration parameters as follows:

• To register web-based applications, enter or select:

– HTTP/HTTPS protocol.

– Cisco Prime web server hostname or IP address.

– Cisco Prime web server port number.

– Browser executable with the full path to launch the application.

• To register another application, select another application tab.

Step 4 Click Next after completing the registration process for all applications.

If you made any application registration updates, a confirmation dialog box prompts you to save or cancel your changes.

• Click Yes to save your changes.

• Click No to cancel your changes.

The Choose Adapters dialog box appears.

Step 5 Select an adapter from the list of Available adapters in the Choose Adapters dialog box.

The adapters that are available, by default, with Integration Utility are:

• CA-Unicenter

• HitachiNMMAdapter

• NetView60NTClientAdapter

• NetView60NTServerAdapter

• NetViewNTClientAdapter

• NetViewNTServerAdapter

• NNMAdapter

Note NNM Adapter is also known as HP OpenView Network Node Manager Adapter.

• SPECTRUMAdapter

• SystemWalkerAdapter

You can also get new adapters from a file or from a remote FTP server and add them to the list of existing adapters. See Updating NMS for more information.

Step 6 Click Integrate to integrate the Cisco Prime application with the selected NMS.

The integration may take some time. You should wait for the integration to complete successfully.

Enabling HP NNMi-Cisco Prime LMS IntegrationConfigure the integration between NNMi and Cisco Prime LMS by following these steps.

Step 1 Open the HP NNMi-CiscoWorks LMS Integration Configuration menu from the Workflow Integration Module Configuration -> CiscoWorks LMS.

Step 2 Select the "Enable Integration" check box to activate the remaining fields.

Step 3 Enter the information about the NNMI management server & LMS Integration server.

Note Note: If anyone of the server or both the server configured as SSL, then Enable the "NNMi SSL Enabled" check box and provide the SSL port.

Step 4 Click submit to make the successful integration. It will display the following status message.

Note Note: After successful integration, if you can't see the LMS cross launch link (Device Center, Cisco View) under the "Action" tab in NNMI, relogin to make the changes (integration) effect.

Cross Launching Cisco Prime from NNMIIntegration provides the link from the NNMI console to Cisco Prime LMS. This integration adds the following links to the NNMI console.

CiscoWorks Device Center - Opens the CiscoWorks Device Center for the selected node.

CiscoWorks CiscoView - Opens CiscoWorks CiscoView for the selected node.

View Node in NNM To view a particular node in NNM, refer to the following steps:

Step 1 Open NNM, select a particular node and go to CiscoWorks CiscoView or CiscoWorks Device center.

Step 2 Enter the Credentials in the login page of the integrated LMS server to view the reports for the selected node.

Note Integration does not provide single sign on between the products. You must enter your CiscoWorks LMS user credentials to view the CiscoWorks LMS pages.

Removing NNMITo remove NNMi from a local system, follow these steps:

Step 1 Log on with administrator privileges to the system where you plan to remove NNMi.

Step 2 To begin uninstalling NNMi in Windows, do one of the following:

At a command prompt, enter the following command:

%NnmInstallDir%\Uninstall\NNM\setup.exe

As an alternative to running the setup.exe command, you can use the

Start > Programs > HP > Network Node Manager > Uninstall NNM menu item.

Step 3 To begin uninstalling NNMI in Sol, enter the following command:

/opt/OV/Uninstall/NNM/setup.bin

Note Note: To remove the NNMI 7.53 or lower in Sol, enter the following command: /opt/OV/bin/remove.nnm

Updating NMSYou can update or change the Network Management System (NMS) with which you integrate your Cisco Prime applications.

For example, you can upgrade from HP Network Node Manager 6.4 to 7.0 or you can use another NMS.

To preserve the integration with Cisco Prime applications, you must acquire a new adapter script. Adapter scripts integrate icons, MIBs, and applications from the NMIDB into the NMS.

Before you run the adapter script to integrate your Cisco Prime applications, make sure the NMS for that script is available.

To update your NMS:

Step 1 Select an adapter script from the Available Adapters list.

You can select an adapter script from the list of NMS adapters provided with the Integration Utility or use an adapter script provided by the NMS vendor.

When you select a script from the Available Adapters list, a description of that script appears in the Adapter Description dialog box.

To add an adapter script to the list:

a. Click Add...

The Get New Adapter dialog box appears.

b. Select one of these options from Table 3-3

c. Navigate to the directory that contains the new adapter script and select the file.

d. Click OK.

The script is added to the Available Adapters list.

Step 2 Click Integrate to run the selected script.

The adapter script integrates the icons, MIBs, and applications into the NMS.

Troubleshooting Integration UtilityUse the suggestions in the Troubleshooting Suggestions Table 3-4 to resolve errors or other problems you encounter while using Integration Utility.

Table 3-3 Options for Installing Adapter Script

File Install the adapter script from a file on your local machine.

• Enter the full directory path and the adapter script file name. For example:

– On Windows, enter:

C:\temp\adapter.xxxwhere adapter is the name of the NMS adapter and xxx is the filename extension of the adapter.

– On UNIX, enter:

/tmp/adapter.xxxwhere adapter is the name of the NMS adapter and xxx is the filename extension of the adapter.

Or

• Click Browse to search for the adapter script file.

FTP Install the adapter script from another system.

Enter the following device login information:

• System name

• User name

• User password

• Full directory path and the adapter script file name.

For example, /tmp/adapter.xxx

where adapter is the name of the NMS adapter and xxx is the filename extension of the adapter.

Symptom Probable Cause Possible Solutions

Invoking NMIC displays error messages while extracting NMIDB.

After integration, when you run Change Integration Options, your system extracts NMIDB.

If there is not enough disk space to extract NMIDB, the extraction fails.

Free up some disk space and re-launch Change Integration Options.

• On Windows, make sure you have at least 190 MB of free disk space.

• For other file and operating systems, make sure you have at least 25 MB of free disk space.

Cannot display specific Cisco device icons with adapter 1.7 for HP Network Node Manager.

This happens when the NMIDB used for integration does not have the specific device icon information.

You can extract the latest NMIDB from Cisco.com using the Change Integration Utility GUI and perform the integration.

After Integration, traps are not properly integrated.

This happens when the appropriate NMS Adapter is not being used.

Download the latest adapter version from Cisco.com for the specific NMS.
