User Guide - CTDOT Capital Project Web-GIS Introduction CTDOT’s Bureau of Planning is nearing completion on the implementation of an Integrated Digital Highway Maintenance System (IDHMS). The IDHMS is CTDOT’s distinct LRS (Linear Reference System). The LRS provides CTDOT with a strategy that will support it’s short and long term needs for a comprehensive road network asset management and reporting solution. The work also complements the Bureau of Engineering and Construction’s current efforts to develop geospatial project-based engineering information. The CTDOT Project Web-GIS has been developed using this LRS as a base map to identify Capital Project limits and their associated business attributes from CTDOT’s business systems. Types of Projects and Data Sources Capital Projects (Federally and State funded Highway and Bridge projects): These features obtain project data from three internal business systems including Capital Programing (Job Log), CTCore (Financial) and SiteManager (Construction). Projects that are not present within all of these systems are currently not included within the Project Web-GIS Maintenance VIP (Federally and State funded Vendor In Place paving): This feature data is maintained and updated every two weeks for active projects by the Office of Maintenance OSTA MTG’s (Major Traffic Generators): This feature data is maintained and updated by the Office of State Traffic Authority Project Locations Capital Projects: A polygon representing the approximate project work area is placed and registered with a project identifier (project number). Any underlying road segments from the LRS are extracted and registered also. The location information is joined with federated project data as described above and creates two spatial feature layers that reside under the layer groups “Project Limits along LRS” and “Project Area Limits Maintenance VIP Projects: Located by route and mileage along the LRS and reside under “Project Limits along LRS” layer group. OSTA Projects: Located by polygon and reside under “State Traffic Authority” layer group.

Introduction

CTDOT’s Bureau of Planning is nearing completion on the implementation of an Integrated Digital Highway

Maintenance System (IDHMS). The IDHMS is CTDOT’s distinct LRS (Linear Reference System). The LRS provides

CTDOT with a strategy that will support it’s short and long term needs for a comprehensive road network asset

management and reporting solution. The work also complements the Bureau of Engineering and Construction’s

current efforts to develop geospatial project-based engineering information. The CTDOT Project Web-GIS has been

developed using this LRS as a base map to identify Capital Project limits and their associated business attributes

from CTDOT’s business systems.

Types of Projects and Data Sources

Capital Projects (Federally and State funded Highway and Bridge projects): These features obtain project

data from three internal business systems including Capital Programing (Job Log), CTCore (Financial) and

SiteManager (Construction). Projects that are not present within all of these systems are currently not

included within the Project Web-GIS

Maintenance VIP (Federally and State funded Vendor In Place paving): This feature data is maintained and

updated every two weeks for active projects by the Office of Maintenance

OSTA MTG’s (Major Traffic Generators): This feature data is maintained and updated by the Office of State

Traffic Authority

Project Locations

Capital Projects: A polygon representing the approximate project work area is placed and registered with a

project identifier (project number). Any underlying road segments from the LRS are extracted and

registered also. The location information is joined with federated project data as described above and

creates two spatial feature layers that reside under the layer groups “Project Limits along LRS” and “Project

Area Limits”

Maintenance VIP Projects: Located by route and mileage along the LRS and reside under “Project Limits

along LRS” layer group.

OSTA Projects: Located by polygon and reside under “State Traffic Authority” layer group.

Feature Information

By left clicking on a feature (Project) a report dialog box will display high level federated project information:

Left clicking Advanced will display the Advanced Reporting dialog, that will contain additional project information

like Towns, Bridges and Signal Systems that are impacted by the project:

ProjectWise Hyperlinks

ProjectWise Online is CTDOT’s cloud based project document management system. For CTDOT staff and

Consultants with ProjectWise access, the hyperlinked project number can be used to access project documents such

as contract plans and specifications.

Advanced Searching

The default advanced search form uses a Microsoft Bing search engine. Streets and addresses can be searched and

located on the map.

Expanding the Advanced Search dialog by left clicking the “+” allows specific spatial layer searching such as Bing

Addresses, Capital Projects, VIP Maintenance paving and OSTA (MTG Permits)by some of their attributes.

Capital Projects can be searched by selecting multiple project attributes and clicking .

Capital Projects can also be searched by a Bridge or Signal Number that is included within the project.
