User Group 2011 Conference regarded as “best ever!”
We would like to thank all of the attendees of this year's User Group conference! With the record
breaking attendance of current clients and 8 of 11 new clients attending, we were able to bring together
organizations from across the country and we couldn't be more honored.
We have compiled the results of the conference surveys and were thrilled to have received so much
positive feedback about presentations, keynote speakers, food and entertainment. Here are some
things you had to say about the conference:
"Both keynote presentations were excellent. As usual the food was great; both receptions were
exceptional!"
"John Smith's presentation was outstanding! Very warm reception from ALL Askesis Team
Members. Practical workshops we can apply. Food availability and quality were excellent."
"Askesis staff that I came into contact with was friendly and helpful. Thanks so much for such a
great conference!"
"Excellent networking opportunities. I was able to get some great ideas and possible solutions to
some performance issues by talking to other users. Overall very good conference – exceeded my
expectations!!"
"Very informative and glad I attended. Let me know what to expect next year, hope I can bring
others."
"Conference was excellent. Askesis Staff are wonderful. Topics were informative."
"Good information, good opportunities for networking, fun evening activities!"
"Thank you to all the Askesis staff that pulled this together. It is an excellent opportunity to
interact and learn from each other with the mix of keynote, general and breakout sessions. Good
format this year. Appreciate the focus on tax planning enhancements and new output
assessment documents."

How Behavioral Health Fits into Accountable Care
Organizations
An Accountable Care Organization (ACO) is a network of providers – doctors, hospitals and
other healthcare providers that share responsibility for delivering quality care to persons with
medical needs. In the Medicare model, an ACO is a group of providers of care delivering
integrated care. Other models include a financing entity to create an integrated finance and
delivery system. Regardless of the model, there are three objectives of an ACO: improve health,
improve patient experience and reduce per capita costs.
The push for the establishment of ACOs comes from a growing awareness of our current
healthcare systems’ quality and cost problems. Numerous organizations around the country,
such as Aetna and Banner Health Network, have already begun to announce partnerships to
form ACOs for both private insurance and Medicare beneficiaries. Some entities, like Kaiser and
Geisinger, have been running an ACO-like model for years. With submission deadlines rapidly
approaching (January 30, 2012 and March 20, 2012) many questions arise. One of particular
importance to our industry is "How does behavioral healthcare, specifically service delivery to
persons with serious mental illness, fit into the ACO paradigm"?
The ACO component of Health Care Reform is scheduled to begin in January, 2012. With many
health insurers, large hospital systems and large physician practices announcing their intentions
to form ACOs, one question that remains unanswered is how public sector mental health and
chemical dependency services will fit into the new paradigm. ACOs seek to change the model
that a provider of care only makes money when he or she delivers care. The idea is to make it
profitable to keep a population healthy rather than only get paid when people need care.
Obviously, information sharing is a big part of that vision. So how does an ACO model fit for a
whole population of people who have chronic illness? This is the question that community
based behavioral health systems should begin to ask themselves now. Should we be a resource
to an ACO, be embedded in an ACO, go at risk? These questions and more are good fodder for
strategic planning moving into 2012.

Incorporating Lab Results into PsychConsult
Provider
First introduced in the PsychConsult Provider 7.0 release, Lab Results has now become an
integral part of our customers’ patient care process. PsychConsult has the ability to
automatically load and seamlessly link diagnostic lab results to a patient and allows for
physician review & sign-off. These functions enable a more complete Electronic Health Record,
but more importantly, are crucial to providing better patient care. Multicare Good Samaritan
Outreach Services, a PsychConsult Provider customer of 11 years, has been using lab results in
PsychConsult Provider since early October 2011. To date, over three hundred diagnostic lab
results have been automatically integrated into PsychConsult Provider. To quote one of Good
Samaritan's Prescribers, "It has been working GREAT for me."
• Delivers real-time lab results
• Alerts the ordering provider
• Documents provider review and sign-off
• Flags abnormal test results for review
PsychConsult Provider Functions
• Display diagnostic results in the Clinical Record
• Include lab results in eSummary CCD
• Provides patient-access to lab results in via the PsychConsult Consumer Portal
• Create patient lists with lab results values
• Generate patient reminders and clinical alerts based upon lab results values

Tech Corner: Eligibility Verification Service
with PsychConsult Provider
As By now most of you have heard about PsychConsult Provider's Eligibility Verification Service.
At this year's User Group Conference we shared some exciting changes for this solution. For our
customers that were unable to attend the "9th Annual National PsychConsult Provider User
Group Conference" we've included some highlights.
One of the major challenges we face with checking eligibility is connecting with the payers.
Although a Payer may have their own "free" website for online inquiries, these websites were
not built for high volume traffic and response time and uptime is unpredictable. In addition,
these sites do not offer a standard format for the eligibility responses and don't have a
standard process for submitting batch requests. Using a clearinghouse eliminates the
unpredictability and provides a better and consistent user experience.
About the Clearinghouse
• Askesis has partnered with Gateway EDI, a clearinghouse for HIPAA transactions
• Using the Clearinghouse, the Eligibility Verification Service can access over 700
payers
• In addition to state Medicaid, access is available to Medicare and the most
commercial payers
Benefits
• One price for connection to all of the Clearinghouse payers
• Detailed benefit information is returned to PsychConsult Provider in under 10
seconds!
• Consistent benefit reporting regardless of payer
• No more maintaining web site usernames, passwords and other account information
• Both real-time and batch transactions available for all Eligibility payers
• Service can be delivered and installed usually within two weeks
Customer Feedback
Mary Olsson, Patient Accounts Manager at Mon Yough Community Services:
"Takes only seconds (we still have not had an issue on timely results). Even running for 2
payors takes just seconds. We're pleased with the timeliness of the real time results"

"We have already changed our process at one site - we now get a report each Monday of
a list of clients that received one or more services at that site for the previous week. Then
a clerk runs an eligibility for each patient noted for the previous date range - this is a site
where clients come in several times each week & we were running checks on each
consumer several times each week; now it will be done once a week."
"The number of payers that we can check though the clearinghouse is great. That alone
is good reason for other agencies to consider this."
