HOW DO I GET STARTED?

The following steps are how to get started:

1. Using the Apple invitation, download Test Flight from the app store and then download

OpenRoads Navigator (ORN) by clicking on the link in the invite. Note ORN is not available in

the apps store, only by invitation.

2. Create i-models or use the sample provided within the app. You can use ProjectWise (if you

have web gateway services set up ) or third party file sharing such as iTunes, Dropbox, etc.

Note There is a known issue where Dropbox gives an error message after exporting,

however, the file is located in the OnDevice folder.

3. Create a CONNECT project. This is done by logging into connect.bentley.com with your Bentley

web credentials (whatever you use for logging into BE Communities.)

4. On your iPad, click on the ORN icon and log in. (Same Bentley web credentials.) Note if you are

logged into another Bentley mobile app, they use the same log in, so the login screen is

bypassed.

5. In the upper right corner, click Change Project. In the Select Project dialog, click on the star (to

change it to gold to make it your favorite if you want) select your project. Note only those

projects created by your organization are visible. Once you have changed projects, the name of

your current project is displayed at the top of the screen.

6. Select your i-model from ProjectWise or third party file sharing and you’re ready to go.

WHAT DEVICES AND OS VERSIONS ARE SUPPORTED?

Currently only iPads running iOS 9 or later are supported. It does not work on iPhones.

ARE THERE ANY KNOWN ISSUES IN THE FIRST RELEASE?

There are two known issues:

• In the CONNECT project administration, customizing the form is supported. However, if either of

the required fields (Subject, Closed) have modified display fields beginning with a number, the

issues tools on the mobile device will crash. Using the default form as is or with fields beginning

with an alpha character work as expected.

• No form for the sample project.

HOW DO I CREATE A CONNECT ACCOUNT?

Creating a CONNECT account is easy, and you may already have one. If you log into any of Bentley’s web

services (i.e., LEARN, BE Comunities) or use other Bentley mobile apps, you already have a logon. There

is no charge to sign up for CONNECT.

1. Go to https://connect.bentley.com/.

2. Click Register at the bottom of the

dialog.

3. Populate the Create your Profile dialog

and click Submit.

HOW DO I CREATE A CONNECT PROJECT?

Creating a project is simple and quick and is done from any web browser. You should create a project, as

the Sample Project does not have full functionality (such as creating and editing issues). You can also

customize the form used for Issues on a per project basis.

1. Go to https://connect.bentley.com/.

2. Log in using your Bentley web credentials (what you use to log into BE Communities). If you

don’t have a login, click Register at the bottom and create one.

3. Note your layout may differ, but look for the section with Recent Projects and click New.

4. Add required information, then click Save.

5. You may create a custom form for your project, but that is not required.

6.

HOW DO I CREATE A CUSTOM FORM TO USE IN ISSUES IN ORN? 1. Go to https://connect.bentley.com/.

2. Log in using your Bentley web credentials (what you use to log into BE Communities).

3. In the Recent Project section, select the project whose form you want to create / edit.

Known Issue: Do NOT change the name from Default. You won’t be able to find

your form.

4. This one is the completed example I used. To add a field, single click on it in the left listing and

it will appear in the display section. You can change the order just by grabbing onto the item in

the display section and moving. To edit the Display Name or add a pick list, click on the pencil.

To delete an item, click on the trash can. You can use items in the left listing multiple times. Be

sure to click Save (upper right corner) when done. You can always come back in a later session

and tweak, if desired. The updated form will appear in the mobile device the next time you

create or edit an issue.

WHAT SOFTWARE DO I USE TO TRANSFER FILES FROM MY LAPTOP /

DESKTOP TO THE IOS DEVICE?

ProjectWise is the preferred solution and is integrated into ORN. If your organization does not utilize

ProjectWise, the files can be transferred via iTunes file sharing, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. Since we do

not make any changes to the i-model file, there is no need to transfer from the mobile device back to a

laptop or other device.

HOW DO I SET UP PROJECTWISE?

Note This feature was added to OpenRoads Mobile in version 05.04.01.005.

In order to integrate with ProjectWise, you need two items:

• Web Services Gateway connection on your ProjectWise server

• Repository where you have .i-model files.

You may need a VPN if you are outside your user network. Contact your IT support person for more

details.

The “ws” stands for Web Services Gateway, a Bentley technology that allows us to interact with various

repository types behind a web service. When Web Services Gateway is setup on a ProjectWise server, it

allows us to interact with ProjectWise without knowing (or caring) that ProjectWise is running in the

background.

SETTING UP THE PW REPOSITORY ON THE MOBILE DEVICE

1. From your desktop using PW client or web browser, determine where your .i-model files are

located and note the datasource and folder path within ProjectWise.

2. Tap the OpenRoads Navigator icon on your mobile device.

5. Tap Go. An icon is displayed indicating it is searching for repositories.

6. When the listing is complete, fill in the rest of the dialog by selecting the Repository, and

adding your ProjectWise Username and Password (not your web login, but your domain login).

It is not case sensitive. You can also add an optional Name and Description.

7. Tap Continue in the upper right corner to complete the process. The repository is added to the

listing in the left panel.
