Volt is now available nationwide. The recent sales rate has been about 525 units each month (plus or minus), but Chevy says that’s more an issue of supply than demand. The company is still hoping for 10,000 sales by the end of the year.

There’s only one grade of Volt. Here are some of the major features.

More intelligent charging

Once Volt’s batteries are discharged, it uses the gas engine until the car is recharged by plugging in. In Prius Plug-in, the gas engine can recharge the batteries enough to enable a return to EV mode. However, under normal driving conditions, both cars require plugging in for a full recharge.

better mpg using gas

Once Volt switches to its gas engine, its mpg rating drops to 37 mpg combined. Prius Plug-in cruises at an expected 49 mpg combined2. The longer you drive, the more Prius Plug-in can save.

More room inside

Prius has long been known for providing more room inside than seems possible from the outside. Head and leg room are critical to many shoppers, and these are measurements in which Prius Plug-in shines.

5-passenger seating

Volt’s battery pack runs down the center of the cabin floor, including the space where a rear-seat middle passenger would sit. So Volt is a four-seater. Prius Plug-in is a true five-seater.

Millions of hybrids sold

No company has more experience with alternative powertrains than Toyota. In fact, more than 2.8 million HSD vehicles have been sold worldwide. Drivers can have confidence in the experience and engineering that goes into every Prius Plug-in.

Multiple-award-winning nameplate

Prius Plug-in follows in the footsteps of Prius hybrid, recognized for its economy, value, dependability and safety. Volt’s new technology will need some time to prove itself. Here are some organizations that have given accolades to Prius through the years.

cost-effective economy

Prius Plug-in’s MSRP starts at significantly less than Volt’s almost-$40,000 MSRP. And more savings will come with each fill-up because Prius Plug-in uses regular-grade gas. Volt requires premium.

entune

A blending of technology and convenience

For Prius Plug-in, cutting-edge applies to more than just the powertrain. High-tech features improve the driving experience and add to the car’s comfort and convenience.
