COPDCOPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is a disease in which the lung is damaged, making it hard to breathe. Cigarette smoking is the most common cause, as is long-term exposure to other kinds of irritants, such as pollution or chemicals. There is no cure for this disease and the damage to your lungs cannot be reversed. There are two

types of COPD - emphysema and chronic bronchitis. In the emphyse-ma type of COPD, the walls between many of the air sacs in the lungs are destroyed, leading to a few large air sacs instead of many tiny ones. In chronic bronchitis, the airways have become inflamed and thickened and there is an increase in the number and size of the mucus-produc-ing cells. Symptoms include cough, shortness of breath and wheezing. There is no cure for COPD. The damage to your airways and lungs cannot be reversed, but there are things you can do to feel better and slow the damage to your lungs, Talk to your pharmacist about ways to quit smoking and tips on how to use your preventer-inhaler properly.

Orthopaedic Services Expand At CCHS

Health System are pleased to announce the expansion of local orthopaedic services. Effective November 1, 2018, Dr. Matt Weresh, orthopaedic surgeon, is increasing his schedule to be on-site three days each week. Zach Hollingsworth, PA-C, will expand his surgical physician assistant role to four days each week. Both provide care at Southwest Iowa Surgery (SWIS) and Cass County Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Weresh has provided orthopaedic care for over 20 years and specializes in hip and knee procedures, from total joint replacements to simple joint procedures. He has been affiliated with Des Moines Orthopaedic Surgeons since 1997, and has provided some outpatient care at Cass County Memorial Hospital for many of those years. In 2017, Dr. Weresh began providing clinic, surgical and hospital care at CCHS two days each week. Beginning November 1, CCHS will be his only practice site.

“My experience at CCHS has been great! The OR staff is awesome – they worked with me to duplicate the process I

used in Des Moines here in Atlantic,” Dr. Weresh noted. “The environment and morale here are awesome. Everyone is so helpful, so I am able to spend more time with patients and less on administrative work. All the staff in the Southwest Iowa Surgery clinic have gone out of their way to make the transition easy for me - they’re the best!”

An Atlantic native, Dr. Weresh graduated from medical school at the University of Iowa in 1991 and went on to do his orthopaedic residency at Akron General Medical Center from 1991-1996. He then did a one year fellowship in orthopaedic trauma before joining Des Moines Orthopaedic Surgeons in 1997.

Zach Hollingsworth, PA-C, is a physician assistant specializing in surgical care. He regularly assists Dr. Weresh and Dr. Chad McCance, general surgeon, with surgical procedures and inpatient follow-up care. Zach also cares for patients in the SWIS clinic, coordinates with the surgeons to evaluate patients and clinical orders in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. He assists in surgery and coordinates with hospital staff to ensure optimal

outcomes for patients.Zach earned his Masters of

Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Des Moines University in 2013. He began working with Dr. Weresh at DMOS in January 2018 before recently joining the staff at Cass County Health System.

Iowa is 2018’s 4th Least Vulnerable State To Identity Theft

With businesses such as Adidas, Best Buy, Delta, Kmart, Macy’s and Sears experiencing data breaches this year, the free credit-monitoring website WalletHub recently released its report on 2018’s States Most Vulnerable to Identity Theft & Fraud.

To determine where Americans are most susceptible to such crimes, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across ten key metrics. The data set ranges from identity-theft complaints to per capita to average loss amount due to fraud.

In addition, WalletHub offers an Identity Theft Guide and free credit monitoring to help consumers handle or prevent the damaging effects of cybercrimes.
