Usage rules synch-up
From Tim WrightFor discussion
SVOD recap• Default is:– Streaming only– OTT: 2 streams, with 3 for significant clients– With Pay TV subscription: STBs + 2 streams– Ask for device registration but take strong a/c
sharing prevent as an alternative• Download is additional and subject to
commercial and technical approval
Being consistent whilst in a learning mode• SVOD with download is new and we don’t really
know what works:– For the user, in terms of something they like to use and
don’t get annoyed by– For the service provider, so they have something which
sells, but without complex infrastructure overheads– For us, in providing something which is desired, but
which doesn’t eat ownership revenue• We need to impose constraints but be open to
new usage models• Need to accept that these new usage models may
impact existing deals

• Hold the line on one single viewing• Canadian and US cable companies have most
here and should not be given more• Pressure on single viewing device in Europe
from telco’s saying they cannot do simultaneous monitoring of streams across cable and IP infrastructure
