From the mid-1970s Mr. Carl Straub, a qualifiedtoolmaker and engineer, was a part of HVACindustry, first running a family business ofrepair, maintenance and development ofcompressors and refrigeration/ventilationequipment in Australia. Then he pioneeredHVAC cleaning services first in Tasmania, andthen expanding the business all across theAustralian continent.
He became a member of ASHRAE in 1996,and served on advisory board to Australiangovernment, dealing with HVAC and A/Csystems-related issues and #1 dust (PM2.5)

A series of incidents, when Legionella Sp.-contaminated HVAC systems in
public buildings, and S. Aureus in hospitals caused health damage to and
even caused loss of human life, lead to the only reasonable conclusion:cleaning HVAC systems alone wasn’t enough to ensure safe indoor
environment.
Disinfection with harsh chemicals was introduced, but while killing
pathogens, these substances were a threat to human health as well, so
using them was a double-edged sword. There had to a safer, but at the
same time, equally efficient way to get rid of biological contaminants.
As a native Australian, being familiar with beneficial qualities of Tea Tree
Oil, that had been known to the aboriginal peoples of Australian
continent for thousands of years, in 1982 Mr. Straub began developingTea Tree Oil-based product, that could be safely and effectively used in
indoor environment, to remove all pathogens from all surfaces, as well as
indoor air.

Construction boom of the mid-90s in Thailand created a huge
market for HVAC cleaning and disinfection, and Mr. Straub
seized the opportunity by relocating to Bangkok, Thailand
and starting IAQ Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., in 1999. It’s
a service company that provides HVAC cleaning and
disinfection services for industrial, commercial, residential
customers, as well as marine/offshore division, providing same
services to Oil & Gas customers – marine oil rigs and vessels.

Scientists are warning that levels of resistance to treatments for
fungal infections are growing, which could lead to more
outbreaks of disease.
Intensive-care and transplant patients and those with cancer
are most at risk because their immune systems cannot fight off
the infections.
Fungal infections had some of the highest mortality rates of
infectious diseases, an expert said.
An international team, led by researchers from Imperial
College London and the University of Exeter, found a huge
increase in resistance to antifungal drugs worldwide over the
past 30-40 years.
Prof Gordon Brown, director of the Medical Research Council
Centre for Medical Mycology, said some fungal infections had
mortality rates of more than 50%.
Researchers advise new treatments are urgently needed.

required to pose a threat of infection is still being debated, but there is no
doubt, that this is occurring with COVID-19, as recent cases on cruise ships have
shown, infection spreading through ship’s HVAC systems, as reported in the
media worldwide. There are some practical conclusions already being made
by aerosol engineers, such as:
1. No more than 1 person per office
2. Allow 4 air changes before reoccupying small, enclosed spaces like

THE REASON BEHIND POINT NO. 3 IS AS FOLLOWS
HOW A CONTAMINATED HVAC SYSTEM

“SPRAY AND PRAY”?
So when you are spraying disinfectants inside
the rooms only, new pathogens will be
brought in with the airflow from the
contaminated HVAC system.
Also, it’s a “one-off” treatment, in the sense
that it’s effective at one point in time andhasn’t any prolonged effect.
That’s why spraying indoor surfaces only is
ineffective, and, if chemicals are used, is
potentially harmful, as well as might cause
damage to HVAC systems’ aluminium coils.
WHAT ABOUT AREAS WITHOUT
HVAC?
In smaller areas, like condos, small offices, each room is
served by 1 or several Fan Coil Units (FCU’s), there is no
ductwork, and air circulates in the room, the only sources
of fresh air are doors and windows. All air in the room
passes repeatedly through the blower of the A/C,
collecting everything that is in the air – dust, bacteria,
viruses, mould spores etc. Although FCU’s are equippedwith filters, their efficiency is very low against biological
contaminants. That’s what caused demand for air
purifiers, ozone generators, UV-light disinfection systems
and other electrochemical/mechanical air cleaners.

they do what they were designed for.

Numerous scientific and clinical studies comparing theactivity of both the main component of tea tree oil, terpinen-4-ol and pure tea tree oil havebeen conducted and published in well-recognized peer reviewed journals. It can be applied to any surface (hard and soft) by spraying, or as aerosol
for air and surface treatment, or “fogging”. There is an “inertial” effect
after treatment, due to tea tree oil forming nano-film on all surfaces, that
lasts for approximately 1-2 weeks after treatment. There is no need to
evacuate people working in the area.

Fogging the ductwork
In large HVAC systems, where airflow is distributed via ductwork and passesthrough Air Handling Units (AHU), “fogging” is the quickest and mostefficient way to cover 100% of air ducts and indoor areas. Highest efficiencyis achieved by using GermXit liquid delivered by ULV-fogging machine, setto the smallest droplet size possible (to avoid soaking of indoor surfaces).Liquid GermXit is thus applied to:

Fogging the ductwork
