A US Flag and Military Honors:
Military Funeral Honors:
One flag is provided
per veteran.
The flag is
presented to the

Headstones and Markers:
Flat markers are
available in granite,
marble, and bronze
Upright headstones
are available in
granite and marble.
Style must be
consistent with others
at the burial site.
US law mandates
no-cost MFH for
eligible veterans
if requested by
the family.
Local funeral service
providers can help
veteran’s families
request a MFH.
US law mandates
that a MFH burial
for an eligible
veteran must have
at least two Armed
Forces service
members
in attendance.
Presidential Memorial
Certificates:
The PMC is an
engraved paper
certificate, signed
by the current
President, to honor
an honorably
discharged
deceased Veteran.
Eligible recipients
include the next
of kin and loved
ones of honorably
discharged deceased
veterans. Multiple
certificates may
be provided.

VA benefits cover some funeral or cremation
arrangements of honorably discharged veterans.
A veteran’s spouse or family should provide
documentation to verify military service.
A veteran’s spouse or family may request a US flag.
A veteran’s spouse or family may request headstones
or markers for a burial space in a private cemetery.
A veteran’s spouse or family may request military
service medals, awards and decorations in writing.
Military Funeral Honors ceremonies should be scheduled
in advance.
A veteran’s spouse or family may request a
“Presidential Memorial Certificate.”
There are eligibility requirements for burial in a VA
national cemetery.
