EOC TEST Taking Strategies

You are allowed to mark, highlight, and notate the EOC test booklet! Use it to your advantage! • Read the question before you look at the answer. • Do simple questions first to help build your confidence! • Come up with the answer in your head before looking at the possible answers, this

way the choices given won’t throw you off or trick you. • Eliminate answers you know are not right. • Read ALL choices before choosing your answer. • On the Civics EOC answer ALL questions, there is no guessing penalty. • Don’t keep changing your answer; usually your first choice is the right one, unless

you mis-read the question. • If you don’t know a question skip it for the time being and remember, you don’t

have to get every question right on the test to do well. • IF (and only if) you read a test question and you have no idea what either the

question or any of the possible answers mean, select (and stick to) your favorite letter (A-D).

• Write down facts, definitions, and key words in the margin of the test booklet so you won’t worry about forgetting them!

• Don’t worry about how fast other people finish their test; just concentrate on your own test.

• If you run out of time and you have blanks, bubble in your favorite letter! A blank is always wrong, but if you bubble in your favorite letter, you have a chance at getting it right! (Does not apply to SAT TEST).
