ABOUT THE CHAPTER

Since our initial founding in 2002 by a handful of individuals determined to make a difference in our built environment, the chapter has grown to almost 900 members strong. These dedicated volunteers are working to advance design and construction practices that provide healthy places to live while remaining environmentally responsible and economically profitable. Our membership includes building owners, homeowners, developers, designers, contractors, manufacturers, lawyers, educators, bankers, and accountants. Over the years, we have partnered with the Home Builder's Association of Greater Dallas, the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the City of Dallas, which has been involved at a high level from the outset and has continued to serve as an in-kind sponsor and provide resources. As we expand our membership and seek diversity, our volunteers continue to transform and achieve positive influence on North Texas environmental issues through education and advocacy efforts. The North Texas Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council is a non-profit organization. Our mission is simple: promote a sustainable, profitable and healthy built environment in the North Texas area through education, professional training and outreach.

GREEN PROJECTS | GBRC GREEN PROJECTS | GBRC

GREEN BUILDING RESOURCE CENTER (GBRC)

The USGBC North Texas Chapter has formed a public-private partnership with the City of Dallas to build a Green Building Resource Center within minutes of downtown Dallas. The structure will house a manufacturer’s showcase, so that the public can actually see, touch, feel and learn about green building design, construction, operation, and maintenance strategies. The building will also serve as the headquarters of the North Texas Chapter, enabling the Chapter to fulfill its mission of outreach, education, and training activities. It will also allow the City of Dallas to promote its own Green Building Code and provide education and outreach activities related to sustainable development.

GET INVOLVED!For information on how you can get involved with the GBRC, contact John Williams, Director of Development:[email protected]

MOBILE EXPERIENCE CENTER (MEC)

Our concept for the Green Building Mobile Experience Center is to take the Chapter’s education and mission on-the-road to many locations or venues across the North Texas region, with the vision of reaching and educating new audiences, including but not limited to, local businesses, government officials, facility planners, students, parents, teachers, as well as professionals in the building and construction industry. This “mobile platform” would enable hands-on demonstrations and teachable moments to be made within the Mobile Experience Center that showcases green building concepts and technologies in an easy-to-understand and enjoyable manner.

The Mobile Experience Center is a covered trailer that includes an interactive multimedia space – so that visitors can actually see, feel, touch and learn about green building design, construction, as well as building operation and maintenance strategies. Through videos, touch-screen applications, and real-world demonstrations of energy-efficient lighting, appliances and plumbing fixtures, the Mobile Experience Center makes the concept of “sustainability” tangible to thousands of visitors – where they live, work and play.

GET INVOLVED!For information on how you can get involved with the MEC, contact John Williams, Director of Development:[email protected]
