Obama’s Win

• Obama became the first black president of the US.

• He is the first democrat to win.• He is projected to have an electoral vote of 365,

and he had a popular vote of 67,657,724. He had 52.75% of the votes.

• First U.S president to be born outside the contiguous US (he was born in Hawaii).

• Fifth youngest president.• He will take office in January 20 2009.

Importance of Voting

• As citizens it’s our responsibility to vote for how we want our country to be won (over 18’s)

• You can’t complain about how the country is run if you don’t vote!

Black history

• The Atlantic slave trade brought Africans to America. They were sold as slaves. They had no freedom at all.

• The result of the American Civil war led to the emancipation (freedom) of Africans.

• Amendments to the U.S constitution outlawed slavery, granted them full U.S citizenship (thus becoming African-Americans), and black males could vote.
